Whats the recommended speaker setup for Pioneer 920?
5.1,7.1 or 9.1?
Is there any difference or improvement for 7.1 and 9.1 setup considering most movies are only 5.1?

I'm using the pioneer 920k with 7.1 setup (AE front, center, surround),Whafedale Rear Surround & SVS PB12 subwoofer. So far so good, works well with 7.1 movies like IP Man series. I have to say the biggest impact to the sound was when I upgraded to the SVS subwoofer. All the movies now have very purposeful deep and powerful bass, yet controlled. I was wondering is it possible to combine another AVR to use as a Power Amp? My friend is shifting house and has a 2nd hand Denon 2105 series AV Amp .. letting go cheap to me. If possible how to combine both?
Also has anyone tried using iPhone to control the av settings? Eg see video at this link http://www.aussiehifi.com.au/buy/pioneer-7...-vsx-920/VSX920 I'm not sure how to get the iphone4 to use this feature. This post has been edited by DannyOP: Dec 1 2010, 04:26 PM |

Just managed to test the IPhone to use as a controller the Pioneer 920k. Had to download the application from Appworld. It works!

Yea thats the app. I think it only works with models which support iPhone.. which are the 920 and above but you can try out and see.

QUOTE(rstusa @ Dec 8 2010, 09:06 AM) According to the Pioneer specs only the 920 & above have iControlAV. Once I've installed the software on my iPhone 4 I just launched the application and clicked on av receiver. It automatically detected the 920. I believe it is connected via Wifi so most current Pioneer av amp with wifi connectivity can be used. My 920 is connected to the Streamyx Unify Wifi router. |

You don't have to. It auto-detects the Pioneer 920k and connects straight away.
Btw... I notice some higher end Pioneer in Sg.. the LX73 & 83.. going for S$3000+ range with ICE technology used in B&O. Compared to the Denon 4311 series.. which one is better? It does cost more than Denon though. |

yes it's an old model. The current model is 820. I bought my 920k in Sg for S$800. The 820 should be around S$700 so you may as well get the newer model for the same price. In fact if you pay slightly more they are having bundles with speakers/dvd players for $900-$3990 depending on which model.

just check in as your luggage. Yes, you may get taxed, so u have to be 'smart' a bit and know what invoice to use just in case. If you have a big bag, take out the box etc and tell them it's a demo unit that u got it cheap.
Btw, you can also reclaim GST 7% at the airport if you're taking flight. So you do get some cash back. |

QUOTE(avantasia @ Dec 27 2010, 01:36 AM) It was the best bang for buck at the time. Same range as onkyo 608 and denon 1911. It was a toss between this and denon. Onkyo sounded unrefined. Tested all 3 before I got the pioneer plus it also had Malaysian warranty eventhough I got it from sg. |

QUOTE(avantasia @ Dec 30 2010, 10:33 AM) rite now the price also less than 2k compare to denon, rxv667,sr608... will think bout it! Got it for 800 sg. However for pioneer there's not much difference compared to Malaysia to other brands. In fact denon n onkyo selling cheaper than pioneer. If u get their bundle more worthwhile ie. 1.4k with 5.1 speakers n bluray player.Btw how much u bought from SG? This post has been edited by DannyOP: Dec 30 2010, 08:37 PM |

I put everything through the amp. Since the macc auto tuning is there might as well use the amp for better sound. If put direct to tv you only get sound from the tv speakers.. No match for a good speaker setup even if using stereo sound.

QUOTE(makrospec2010 @ Jan 14 2011, 09:30 AM) Just purchased the P1020 and mated it to a MS mezzo6. I think this is a perfect match for music stereo. For sub I'm using an old entry level sony active sub which came in as a 5.1 combo set. The mezzo 6 bass is very good and just need a little fill in at the low end. For surround sound i'm thinking of upgrading to a velodyne 12q but that's got to wait as I'm trying to repair my JBL active sub first. Tried Underworld DVD last nite and was very pleased with the sound stage though my 5.1 speaker placement is not perfect due to the odd size hall. I'm going to try my BD disc later when I can resolve my speaker placement. I've demoed the O 608 and there was severe distortion @ 60 volume for stereo and am very happy I purchased the P1020 earlier. The P1020 not only has 6 HDMI but if not mistaken will come with the ipod attachment wire which the 920 don't provide. I've dumped my headphone amp and elite ephones and now listen my ipod music thru the P1020. Correction the 920 also comes with the iPod attachment wire. 920 and 1020 is almost the same as I've tested both before I considered the 920. Only difference is less hdmi ports and wattage.Your price quoted are reasonable and kuchingtiger and style laser give very competitive prices, my suggestion pay a little more for the 1020 and get a good floor stander like the mezzo6. Cheers |

for entry level min recommended is the vsx 920k. same competitor for onkyo 608 and denon 1911 but with more features and iphone/ipod control. 1020 is a step up but not much difference, only more hdmi ports.
next step up for mid range is lx53 then lx73/83 This post has been edited by DannyOP: Feb 5 2011, 05:23 PM |

QUOTE(gkl83 @ Feb 5 2011, 10:04 PM) actually i prefer 5.1 instead as i will locate it at living area only... If u put all 5 speakers in front then u're wasting money getting an amp. Better stick to ori tv speakers.may worse that i may locate all 5 speakers on top of my TV cabinet... that why i dont think for 7.1... or i should go for Onkyo HT-S3300 instead? but bad that it come with passive sub... as your experience, can i pair 580 with onkyo skf 330f? any possibility bottleneck 580's performance? i read thru the pioneer catalaog which i got from harvey norman, seem todoroki setup seem should be cheaper but i dislike floor stand design and used some space... still prefer alike S3300's speaker size... |

QUOTE(gkl83 @ Feb 6 2011, 07:30 PM) r u joking? Aiyoo.. What I mean is u get a 5.1 but don't use it, better not to buy. Same like if u get a girlfriend but never do anything.i tried to use media player > HDMI > TV > RCA > Hifi, the audio quality very unclear end up, i do direct from media player > RCA > Hifi, the audio quality crispy than TV 1000% even though stereo mode hence one of my neighour used high end 3.1 floor stand speaker paired with AV receiver (cost him Rm8k last 2 year ago as info), the audio quality definitely enough to posion me... unless i have a dedicated AV Room for sure will located surround speaker at other location... |
