Marvell seems to be trying to make a comeback. They used to have a decent scalar called QDEO. Pioneer used to use their own scalars and they used to be pretty good. I wonder if this is a sign of the effects of closing down the plasma division.

Would like to ask for opinions on subwoofers. I did test other models like BMB or anything below RM 1.5k. BMB was good for music but failed during a Transformers movie test. Somehow the explosions were too soft in that audition.

Can someone please advise me on a good subwoofer around 1k or maybe a set with speakers around 2k?

I bought the VSX-819H-k from senQ a month ago, having this problem of intermittent power off by itself. Last night after power off by itself and I can
not switch on again. Voltage is correct.Just like no power. Anyone has this problem using 819-K?

Try audition 12inch (or more) Subs if you want to use it more for movies.

I'm using VSX-919 but so far didn't experience such situations. Maybe it's time for warranty claim?

I am using 819 for almost 8 months now. Never had any issue with the AVR power off by itself. You better go for warranty claim.

Check whether you amp AC cord is properly fitted...yeah...sometimes when we do house cleaning we tend to pull stuff around.

Try plugging it to another socket too....or fit another equipment to the same socket to make sure if the amp has no power, what abt the other equipment thats connected to the same socket? If both no power means the socket got problem (hehe..termites eat the wiring or socket burn).

What speakers that you are using? I suspect that it could be the impedance issue. It could be that it is on 'protection mode'

Yeah..dun be like me, tried playing some BD last night and the rear no sound...took me a while to find out that my wife accidentally pulled the wires while mopping beneath the chairs..lucky the wires connected to banana plugs. Wasted my time fiddling with the Amp and Media player

Added on June 3, 2010, 1:20 pmhtkaki,.. what is that "proctation mode"? How to disable it. I connected the AV
to Astro beyond - hdmi, HTPC via hdmi cable plugged to ATI HD5550 graphic card. will these crash the AV?

Protection mode will cut off the power supply if the AVR itself was overloaded, e.g using the speakers with way too low resistance to the design of the AVR.. Your setup shouldn't cause any problem to your VSX-819

Yes, it shoould not happen if it is Pioneer package. Since you have sent it for checking, then have to wait for the diagnosis.

If not, just unplug one source at a time to check whether the avr will switch off or not.

Need some advice from experienced users.

I owned a Pioneer 516 (bought this set due to salesperson's recommendation, back in 2006) for my gaming pleasure (PC/PS3/Xbox360).

Lately, my speakers (a pair of front) doesn't sound good and a bit cuckoo. Also have experience overload message whereby the receiver switched by itself.

While shopping at Lowyat, I saw this Desa home theatre shop and decided to ask around. Salespersons very free and very accommodating. Tested 3 different setups with Pioneer 819 (JBL 5.1 satellite speakers, Pioneer home theatre set (light wood coloured speakers with a black 10 inch sub) & Rogers 5 piece PS7 Mk2 with ASB-120 sub). Tempted to buy the Rogers setup.

Should I get the Rogers and are there any better setup around 2.5k? I do not intend to change my Pioneer 516.

Thanks in advance.
