Since the 819 is a 5 channel amp design, I doubt it could output the surr back as a discrete channel (independent). It sld be a matrixed source from surr channel. Moreover, it will also seriously burden the avr if you do hook 7.1 setup as it is only meant for 5 channels (150W @ 6ohms x 5). Expect a drastic drop in performance especially at higher vol and distortion kicks in easily . I would advise a 5.1 setup for this avr

What speakers that you are using? I suspect that it could be the impedance issue. It could be that it is on 'protection mode'

Yes, it shoould not happen if it is Pioneer package. Since you have sent it for checking, then have to wait for the diagnosis.

If not, just unplug one source at a time to check whether the avr will switch off or not.
