guys, is the MCACC in the VSX-818 and VSX-819 important?
i'm torn between the HTP-819SW (comes with VSX-819) and HTP-519SW (comes with VSX-519) set.

would appreciate any input. budget is a major consideration, since the price difference is about RM800 between the sets.
both comes with RS3SW active sub, SMS800 speaker, just the AVR is different. i don't really need HD audio support right now (or in the near future).

anyone that have the VSX-819, could you tweak the time alignment settings?

answering my own question:
just downloaded and read the VSX-819 user guide and indeed users could tweak the time alignment settings.

but still doesn't answer whether the MCACC would be an important feature to have. biggrin.gif

MCACC is an automated calibration tool.. if u hv a calibration sofware like Ovations Avia or DVE n a spl mtr, u could do de basics urself too..
If u dont then its basing on ur ears n it aint tat accurate.. tats  why newer avrs bundle tis in..
Other brands hv diff names for tis : Yammys YPAO , marantz/onks  Auddyssey..
*
i know.
but i could get meself an SPL meter. friends have that (though they don't use it for HT calibration).
would it be that hard to set it up manually?

i've read VSX-519 user guide and it seems that the time alignment settings are done in distance (as opposed to delay in miliseconds).
so would an SPL meter and tape measure be enough to get the same performance as MCACC?

Hi,

I m not veri familiar wif MCACC .. heck I aint familiar wif my 7002's auddyssey either.. I calibrated manually wif wat I jus mentioned n its fine by me.. of cos there would be others who would differ..

my 2 cts

i've read around that manual calibration with spl meter fixs auto calibration errors. the best and most accurate calibration have to be done manually with spl meter.

guess i don't need MCACC after all. spl meter and tape measure it is then

what he say is true if he's refering to the older pioneer 818 &518 as well as yamaha 365 & 363 that only support hdmi switching. all the new models support hdmi repeater function.
*
and not to mention the pioneer vsx-819 could decode hd audio for bluray playback.

if calculate other spending to get the item 2.5K seem reasonable price. i mean tol + gas travel from png to KL

that's why north people like us are better off buying somewhere around penang. tol + gas + accomodation to kl are not cheap as it is.

Hi, previously i was looking to buy pioneer amp with preouts but there was no models with preouts that i can find in the market. Last week i read about this new model VSX1120-K, which suppose to have full preouts. Anyone have any idea when will this model be available in Malaysia? Also, if im using external amp, does the performance of an AVR, other than video upscaling, matters? Or i can just opt for the cheapest avr with preouts?

Hope someone can clarify. Thanks.
*
i just tried a multichannel amp with an avr with preout on my setup.
if you have the dough, do go the multichannel way. even if the avr already have enough power to drive the speakers, the amp does things with better clarity.

power and loudness doesn't change much (hinting that the avr have enough power to drive the speakers), but the detail and clarity improved quite a lot.
hopefully the vsx-1120 won't take too long to reach malaysia.

Hi, just entered the forums as I too am an avid Pioneer fan.  Would like some advice on sub woofers as my HT is missing a good set!

Currently looking at the HTP-RS5 with the included S-RS3SW and additional speakers (bonus).  I'm using a 606 as the amp so the pioneer 518 is planned for another system setup or maybe a preamp.

I did an audition for the RS3SW and it was great even in an open environment.  Price given at Harvey Norman was RM1999 but got it down to RM1899 IF its a straight payment.

Would love some advice and feedback. Thanks.
*
why would you wanna waste that much just so that you could get the sub?
the rs3sw is good, but IMHO isn't that great compared to other sub-RM1k sub.

i'm using one and i do think you should try and audition other subs at around RM600-RM800. you might like others better

I've always been a Pioneer fan yet there are so few selections for subs.  The only other sub I can take is the 20 cm sub set only, priced at RM1200 (roughly).  I chose this because it gives the sub + xtra speakers and an amp for 2k.  Can you suggest any subs for me to narrow my search?  I aim for some deep bass if possible.  Thanks.
*
i believe you won't find some deep bass with the rs3sw. boomy bass maybe.. ha ha

not joking.

try and audit any 8" or 10" from other speaker manufacturer.
something from qacoustics, psb, velodyne, paradigm, wharfedale, b&w and etc etc and compare that to rs3sw.

QUOTE(bad2928 @ May 9 2010, 08:29 AM)
IMO RS3SW petty good sub, plus it 12",im also own it.just go for it. rclxm9.gif
*
i've heard some a lot a few 8" and 10" sub that will kick the srs3sw 12" a$$ flat out.
IMHO larger doesn't necessarily mean better. smile.gif

QUOTE(redframelowyat @ May 9 2010, 10:58 AM)
even i choose to buy rs7 because interested with the sub...
*
not questioning your judgement, but have you audit other branded subs before buying the rs3sw?

but hey, maybe it's just me; and *maybe* my ears are broken somewhere. laugh.gif

Seem its impossible to find any onkyo or denon here (KK), my choice is limited to Pioneer since Onkyo only got old model; SR307 and SR507.

Anyone has any bias between SR307 and VSX819K, which one is better?
*
i reckon sr307 is the lowest entry level from onkyo, no?
whilst the vsx819 is a ladder up from vsx519

*
decent enough for starter setup. RM250 is a bargain if you're looking for the center and surround. i reckon a used unit was sold for RM550 not too long ago in garage sales.

i see some forumers selling Sony AVR ES series, brought in from somewhere else.... quite tempting with the low price as ES is suppose to be the high end series. but warranty may be of a concern...

still wondering if it is a good buy...
*
US stocks for sure as it requires a step down transformer.
are those ES even selling here in malaysia? could sony service centre even reset their protection mode if it's not selling here? do they have the service manual for it if it's for US market?

what would happen if should the ES goes into protection say, if you accidentally shorted the speaker terminal? how to reset if sony service centre don't even have the service manual?

Hi everyone,

I have a 919 avr since few mths back.

For stereo CD playback, which mode is best - Pure Direct vs Direct ?

smile.gif
*
whichever sounds the best to your ears.

..and you might wanna try using the stereo mode for stereo input

True as of October 7th, 2010. Today may be different.

I saw Jaya Jusco in MidValley KL is having a Pioneer corner (promo space). They have priced the VSX-1020-K for RM2999. It comes with a 5.1 satellite speaker system from Infinity. Probably their entry level speakers but it's still a good deal.
fuad
*
i reckon it's quite a good deal as the vsx-1020k itself is quite pricey. anybody know what model is the speakers?

you think i should go for the midvalley VSX-1020 with that speaker or go for HTP-RS77 (VSX-820 & RS77TB)?
*
i think you should go to midvalley and hear the set before making up your mind. even though the torodoki is a huge tallboy with a few 6.5" drivers, i've heard some puny satellite that easily sound better.

and yes plugged into the same pioneer avr.
but hey maybe's it just me. smile.gif

Some ppl swear that small speaker can sound better than a crap floorstander like the Todoroki series...so must respect that opinion too  smile.gif
*
no need to be angry at me bro. i'm just voicing my opinion on the matter (and my personal experience auditioning speakers here and there). well maybe my ears have been damaged by hearing too much higher-up-the-ladder models to conclude that the torodoki lines does sound sucky not as good as some satellite.

the torodoki does sound unrefined and losses a lot of clarity. but hey it's just my opinion. and opinion varies.
