the devs at xda-developers are porting the leak android eris 2.1....it works but it is still unstable..many problems like auto brightness,gps,mms..huge battery drain...for now just stick with 1.5 until htc officially release the 2.1 update.

Hi Shahz smile.gif
I just bought my HTC HERO on Saturday and was trying to root it (its been a day since I've tried) and it was a pain as I'm really a noob when it comes to tech.

Anyway, I read your guide, tried, failed, tried again, failed countless times (got me so darn frustrated)

It was due to my build which is the 2.73.709......I did create the goldcard but didn't know what went wrong that I couldn't downgrade the stupid thing argh!

In the end I combined both your guide and the unlockr's and I finally did it!

Took your files and followed the unlockr's one click root method and managed to root it wink.gif Now I'm running on Villian 3.2 rom and its wonderful!

Thank you so much for being such a help!

Hey there,
That's not a problem at all. I tried my best to keep it as understandable and followable as possible. My Hero was among the very first few builds too, and didn't require goldcard method. But along the line, I did root some with goldcard method and they were flawless with my tute too. Wanted to put it up, but then, I realized more people were learning (just like you did) and I already had posted enough stuff to kick the ignition. SO I didn't include it in.

Congrats on rooting success happy.gif Welcome to the android community. Meet our friends in the N1 thread I started. Lots of fun and interesting chat goin on there smile.gif

wow,

the community really grow now.. Managed to write a programme for civil engineering purposes. Full of bugs and force closure a lot.. dropped my hero at site several times already.. lucky me thumbup.gif .. still okay.. even dropped it in drains (with ponding water!!!)..

Have to get N1 after this.. Hero can be my "work" companion.

Shahz, N1 forum is bigger than hero ya? hehehe... Nice one.

shayppp, apparently that is what I have realized too..Those who venture into Android, Hero is a great start, and in the end they get the Nexus One..It applies to me too..

Some leaped the Hero step and went straight to Nexus One..Maybe that explains why the N1 community is growing faster smile.gif Nevertheless, Android is Android..Regardless of the phone we own..
