I'm a Noob. just curious, I just bought a new Hero with build number 2.73.707.9 146733 CL#62020 release-keys. Do I need to downgrade it first in order to root? It has Adroid Market inside already.

Got it from "Third Party" Reseller.. Not SIS. Inspected the phone and suddenly I saw Market Widget in it. At first I taught it was a rooted Hero, boy was I wrong. It still virgin.. just got it last Thursday.

Yup, that is why I asked Shahz n others for opinions first rather than bulldoze to rooting. Still high in sugar with this Hero.. haven't work out how to set APN for 3G (celcom).. Wifi no issue, works fine.. good download speed using Imusic.

Just finished rooting..

installing modaco custom rom.

Skipped your SDK suggestion, used flashrec 1.1.3

Now to optimize my SDcard..

since I need to use CMD, I have to install the SDK as per your 1st step to execute those command.

p/s: I did not do any wipe or reformat the SD at any point and it works! my SD is 8G class 4 (search at Low Yat but class 6 was not available)

It took me approximately 45 mins. Left with 15 mins for lunch i guess.. hehehe.

In the recovery mode there is an option to partition the SD. I'm exploring it and have partitioned my SD to ext3 using it. I set my swap to 0MB. 2048MB for ext2. The next thing I've done is improve it from ext2 to ext3 and there is another option for ext3 to ext4 (I stop at ext3).

So, I hope that it is comparable with gparted; anyone else have try using the above function in recovery mode?

Congrats on your N1!!! will be getting it when it is available locally.

Today, I managed to heir wire my Hero. I actually wanted to upgrade to kernel 1.9.1 so I done Nandroid Backup, wipe then I flash it up, reboot and the things keep on circulating in boot (where the android icon keep waving then black screen than waving.. hehehe). My Nandroid restore does not work it failed (forgot to jot down the msg). So I reflashed the ModaCo rom (3.0), and 2 others files in step 2 (hero generic 2.73.405.38 and radio). Result; I actually downgraded!! With no ModaCo Rom registered!! Hehehehe.. Lawak King sungguh.

So there is an issue that I encounter when doing full backup using AmonRA 1.5.2; it could not restore. Anyone experiencing this?

Nonetheless, the phone is still working using the generic Rom.

Would be nice if Dev could do something like VSH Menu for PSP. You could pick your clock speed, software etc not only in the recovery but also after booting.

Once bricked my Nokia Symbian, wish not to bricked this Hero.

the community really grow now.. Managed to write a programme for civil engineering purposes. Full of bugs and force closure a lot.. dropped my hero at site several times already.. lucky me .. still okay.. even dropped it in drains (with ponding water!!!)..

Have to get N1 after this.. Hero can be my "work" companion.
