Bro,
First and foremost, i would like to apologize for the nooby questions that i'm gonna ask. I just got myself a htc hero (i admit, i intuitively bought it) with no particular knowledge whatsoever on android based OS. I am struggling to find out the true power of the phone and have yet to install/flash/update anything. The salesperson who sold it to me said he updated and added a few apps. 1. Are they any other ROMs out there that are worth considering? 2. By flashing to another ROM, will the GUI change? What else will change? 3. The latest version of Android SDK is 2.1, but do i need to update my phone to that version? how do i update to it? 4. Installing apps and widgets are only through the phone's wifi or can i download it onto my comp and then sync with the device? Is it through the apps store? 5. Are there any recommended free apps that i should have? Like Ndrive and such 6. I am an entertainment-enclined person so how do i sync music and videos quickly(from pc to device)? If it's any use: build 2.73.751.13 firmware 1.5 Thanks in advance |

First and foremost, welcome to android room and congrats on your wonderful device!
Here you go.. 1. Yep, you are good enough to even know about ROMs 2. nope..GUI doesn't change (unless you are upgrading to AOSP 2.1 which installs the new kernel altogether) 3. Your phone is 1.5 still. There is a 2.1 release which was not made officially by HTC yet. You can use that if you want, but if bluetooth is not a necessity to you, I suggest just hold back to 1.5 for now until the official 2.1 is released for Hero. 4. Yep, its through the "market" application. 5. When you go to Market, you will find this out..haha..Too many to list here 6. WiFi using FTP if you want..Thats faster and easier.. Hope that helps |

this one will not update the kernel..it uses 1.5 kernel with Modaco Custom ROM v 3.1
If you want to flash 2.1, you have to use different files |

lol..u shouldn't share it here..its a password only for your phone exclusively..its randomly generated and it enables SSH access to your phone..

hi! thanks shahz for the tutorial in front, followed it step by step and installed modaco 3.0 too.. i wanted the ability to write chinese so i installed the Core modaco 3.0, followed by the 2.8 one with chinese, then lastly the bootsounds... then i noticed that some of the applications dun work, for example i have an icon tat shows "cz.hejl.chesswalk..." when i click on it it says the program has stopped unexpectedly, and i have to force close it... i have a few programs like that.. izzit becoz some files are missing? these are programs included in the ROM right? thanks!

hi, to do it from recovery, there's an option ext 2 to ext 3 and ext 3 to ext 4, that's the one?
hmm, i did a wipe last nite, did it from the recovery page, i wiped everything, wipe cache, wipe sd card, wipe data etc... even reformatted my sd card..after that i applied all the modaco ROMs again, but when i reboot the phone, those broken links are still there... apps like afirewall still stopped unexpectedly and have to force close... is there anything wrong? the only way is to uninstall them manually i guess.. |

i failed on the step 2, once i type adb on the command manager, it showed "adb" is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file what does it mean? This post has been edited by Addonics: Mar 2 2010, 11:55 AM |

Yeah, and you must do it part by part..ext2 -> ext 3 -> ext 4hmm, i did a wipe last nite, did it from the recovery page, i wiped everything, wipe cache, wipe sd card, wipe data etc... even reformatted my sd card..after that i applied all the modaco ROMs again, but when i reboot the phone, those broken links are still there... apps like afirewall still stopped unexpectedly and have to force close... is there anything wrong? the only way is to uninstall them manually i guess.. Like I said, apps have nothing to do with the ROMs. Some apps may not be written well for certain phones.
