1. A300 and brothers, doesnt has a AF illuminator, they use the pop up as AF assist.
2. attach ur flash, to use the build in AF illuminator. your tamron Will Not Hunt Anymore.

3. F2.8 advantage is not before shutter release, the advantage is During shuttle release. meaning, with 16105, F5.6, shooting the same subject with natural light, gives u 1/5ss, while the F2.8 give u a decent 1/25ss which prompt to less motionblur. F2.8 is like bumping iso to 1600 on F5.6 with less noise.

4. tammy 1750, well, Practically, its for indoor use. not outdoor with wide ground. even i rate 55200 is better then 16-105 for outdoor street shooting. (my opinion, but many prefer 16105)
*
Hmm... yes the F/2.8 enable us to shoot in faster shutter speed, and in that case it reduces motion blur. However that still doesn't produce a sharp image, unless the Tamron manage to focus in time and get it right for that very moment. Else the benefits of shutter speed still not very helpful, in my case. Not sure if AF Assist really accurate for 3rd party lens, as it mis-focused a few times. Perhaps I didn't use the right AF mode and caused the lens to hunts more.

I haven't tried 16-105 yet, but looking at the range, it offers a pretty wide range at the beginning and decent zoom at the other end (which I plan to use it as potraits). For sure in terms of sharpness, Tamron 17-50 would offers its sweet spot at bigger aperture compared to 16-105. I'm just wondering if 16-105 can do the similar job on smaller aperture with the help of Cobra.

From the explanation above, it mention that Special AF system become active when using 2.8 or faster lens but do our a2xx-a3xx have that? I can't see af faster by much from 50 1.8 compare to kit lens.

Anyone here using Phottix BG+battery? How is it? Thinking to get it because it is much cheaper compare to Sony one but I scare to spoil my camera pulak blush.gif
*
Phottix, Octopus and Taylor seems to come from the same source, China. Its unknown if they are from the same factory (OEM) but the build quality, design and material is exactly the same. Only diff is the brand label sticker.

The grip is well acceptable as a cheaper alternative to the ori sony grip, build and feel in hands is very comfy and very usable. Still, the build quality and feel of the Sony grip is better, but not that much by my poor peasant standard.

Oh... and the Sony allows for auto switching of both battery in the grip, while Phottix, Octopus and Taylor branded ones need u to manually switch batteries via a switch below it. I simply load only one batt and change that when it gets depleted.

this is what i understand :
"A faster lens (wider max aperture) allows more light into the camera and gives the AF system more light to work with, so a faster lens will allow better AF performance when light levels get low enough to start effecting the AF speed"
quoted from someone:)

Added on November 3, 2009, 11:59 pman f2.8 lens allows twice the light as an f4, and an f4 allows twice that of an f5.6
*
mmmm let me see

Speed depends on SAM, SSM, AF screw length. not how much light.

focus hunt depend on the contrast of image (thts why carl ziess has better focus at night due to it boost eh contrast of subject to focus on) (depends on light)

focus hunt accuracy depend of AF sensor design, like F2.8 sensor* i need to eleborate more, but i have difficulties to explain in english. the shape of the diod/sensor of the sensor will decide the 'pattern' it will phase detect. (depends on focus hunt above, indirectly, related to light)

all 3 added up = performance rating.

but how much a 2.8 light will affect it? not forgetting the mirror cuts off 70% of the light. F2.8 may sound double to F5.6, BUT, not forgetting our lens are wide open all time when attach, thus it could be F3.5, and 2.8 is not double of light of F3.5.. it's about 30% more only.

ieR, have ur 1750 ever hunted in lowlight although f58 is attacked? tongue.gif

yes, subject futher then 10 metre. coz the AF illu cant shine that far... biggrin.gif

but like we say, photography is not about the machine, but the person behind the machine.

so, let us be smart, try to focus on bright/lightsource, which is in the same focus zone of our subject. not rely on the machine. right? innovative.

trust me, it get worst with 16105 at F5.6 vs any F2.8 lens at natural light shooting

16-105, at 105 F5.6 the bokeh is as good(my opinion is better) then 50 F2.8
with a cobra, every lens is cantik.

*repeat from old post. "and even better is, when, very very very malang, ur flash battery dead. F2.8 iso 800/1600 on A300 still can let u continue ur wedding/event job compare to a F5.6"
