wanna ask some bro's here

is it worth to sell/replace my Tamron 17-50 f2.8

for SAL 16-105?
*
I was considering the same question... My Tamron hunts terribly in low light condition and the picture is very soft. Hence it doesn't give me any advantage of shooting at F/2.8 in low light. However it is sharp in well lighted situation. On the other hand, SAL16105 has a better range compared to Tamron 17-50. Really hard to justify the worthiness of selling the Tamron in order to get SAL16105. sad.gif

1. A300 and brothers, doesnt has a AF illuminator, they use the pop up as AF assist.
2. attach ur flash, to use the build in AF illuminator. your tamron Will Not Hunt Anymore.

3. F2.8 advantage is not before shutter release, the advantage is During shuttle release. meaning, with 16105, F5.6, shooting the same subject with natural light, gives u 1/5ss, while the F2.8 give u a decent 1/25ss which prompt to less motionblur. F2.8 is like bumping iso to 1600 on F5.6 with less noise.

4. tammy 1750, well, Practically, its for indoor use. not outdoor with wide ground. even i rate 55200 is better then 16-105 for outdoor street shooting. (my opinion, but many prefer 16105)
*
Hmm... yes the F/2.8 enable us to shoot in faster shutter speed, and in that case it reduces motion blur. However that still doesn't produce a sharp image, unless the Tamron manage to focus in time and get it right for that very moment. Else the benefits of shutter speed still not very helpful, in my case. Not sure if AF Assist really accurate for 3rd party lens, as it mis-focused a few times. Perhaps I didn't use the right AF mode and caused the lens to hunts more.

I haven't tried 16-105 yet, but looking at the range, it offers a pretty wide range at the beginning and decent zoom at the other end (which I plan to use it as potraits). For sure in terms of sharpness, Tamron 17-50 would offers its sweet spot at bigger aperture compared to 16-105. I'm just wondering if 16-105 can do the similar job on smaller aperture with the help of Cobra.

Looks Great! rclxms.gif
Guys, wanna ask some advice... I currently couldnt decide between this 2 lenses..

1. Minolta Beercan 70-210 F4  vs
2. Sony 70-200G F2.8

I nvr hv any much experience shooting with tele lens... so i cant really tell how much can the F2.8 on the G lens benefit me... here is my understanding of the 2 lenses:

1.70200G F2.8
Benefit:
a) F2.8... shooting indoor make much possible.. (but was it sharp at F2.8 or hv to up to F4 to hv that acceptable sharpness?)
b) Superfast focusing speed... made shooting motorsport... (seriously i only been to Sepang for 1 time... whistling.gif )
c) The G lens Imagequality??? (does it really make a lot of difference?)

Disadvantages:
a) Super heavy... definately cant bring it around without A Purpose!
b) Super bulky.... need new bag to carry it around.. Feel like VG is a must when shooting potrait.
c) Price!!! although cheaper than Canon/Nikon... but is still x5+ more expensive than Beercan
d) White.. I don really like being overly Attractive with my gear!

2. Minolta Beercan
Benefit:
a) F4.. Constant aperture is wat i need.
b) Lighter n slimmer than 70200G... making it possible to bring it around...
c) Nice creamy bokeh? I din compare with 70200G side by side.. so cant really tell d difference...same thing with the IQ
d) Cheaper

Disadvantages:
a) no new lens, meaning condition of the lens hardly known
b) not F2.8 of course.. making shooting interior harder.
c) Slower Focusing speed.

My usage: I think most of the time will be shooting Potrait & livestyle & animals. Stalking ppl? sweat.gif Motorshooting is not really my thing... hv strong interest in shooting wedding. What u guys think? Beercan.. if can find i can get it anytime.. 70200G.. need more savings.... probably fastest oso mayb as Christmas gift for myself  sweat.gif

U must have set to "Continuous Focus" instead of "single focus", either that..or u could hv turn the "ti ti" sound off (which i think hardly the case as it need it need to access into the menu setting to do tat)

Perhaps you can consider 70300G if you don't need the F/2.8. That is the low profile (black) version of G... smile.gif

thinking of getting the aplha A230L...around RM1799.... any comment or review on this for a DSLR beginner ?

how much the cost for a longer  zoom lens from Sony ?  icon_question.gif

Or get a used A200... Hahaha... Very good budget camera.

I will recommend you to go for used lens instead of getting a brand new one. Like what Ier listed, my suggested preference according to price would be :
1. 55-200 (Around 500)
2. 70-210 (Around 900)
3. 70-300G (Around 2500)

If you not really tight in budget, 70-210 F/4 is the best in terms of $.

well, from what i know, only A550 would benefit SAM's lens when used in AF-C (+burst), where it provide enough speed for AF. other then that, older AF sensor arent that smart to put the AF-C to the limit like A550 does.

Finally got my A550. smile.gif Mess it around for 30mins, found some bugs with the firmware.

When I switch the AF confirm sound off, it is silent when you focusing (which is correct). Then choose back AF confirm sound to On, it still remains quiet. Restart the camera, remove battery and insert again, doesn't solve this. Only way is to restore firmware. !=.=

Another thing is the LCD brightness.. It suppose to auto adjust the brightness according to ambient. However it does not. Tried to play around with the light sensor beside the LCD, it doesn't make any difference.

How? Warranty? tongue.gif
