National Cyclists Fail To Do Well In Mountain Bike Challenge
MELAKA, Nov 7 (Bernama) -- Former national gold medalist Stanly Jalip Jr who clocked two hours 55 minutes 575 seconds had to be satisfied with sixth place in the men's elite downhill category at the 15th Asia International Mountain Bike Challenge at Bukit Beruang, here on Saturday.
The gold medal was won by Indonesian cyclist Popo Ario Sejati who posted 2' 39:498s in the 1.5 km race.
Japan's Naoki Idegawa won the silver medal in 2'43:617s while Thai cyclist Tanaphon Jarupeng took the bronze (2'50:283s).
It was the same for the Malaysian cyclists in the women's elite downhill category with none finishing in the top five.
The gold medal was won by Japanese cyclist Mio Suemasa who clocked a time of 3'01:597s while the silver medal went to Indonesian cyclist Risa Suseanty (3'16:933s). Thai cyclist Aussanee Pradupyard won the bronze medal in 3'29:141s.
The winners prizes were given away by by Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Ali Rustam.
Besides the Malaysia, the four-day championship which started Nov 5 drew participation from 15 countries including Singapore, South Korea, Thailand, Indonesia, Hong Kong, Iran, China and Vietnam.
