roundedfly,

I mean to say basic model, which is the J model / version / spec. This costs around RM 72k.

Added on March 23, 2010, 7:11 pmI'd check out the Kelisa 1.0 . But this car is not being manufactured anymore.

If you are willing to increase the installment a bit and get a loan of 9 yrs, the Viva is my all time favourite small city car. My wife paid RM 500/ month.

Savvy is good also but the maintenance is high thanks to the renault engine. It is a very good car but there is a lack of qualified mechanics in Malaysia for this technology. I used to have 1. I enjoyed driving it up and down from KL to Penang.

Hi, thanks for your reply.

Does buying a car that has stopped manufacturing actually cause much trouble ?

Like the spare part and all will it be difficult to find and expensive even if its found ?

Cheers.

Nope. It wont be hard to source spare parts for local cars.

Unless you're driving something real old. icon_rolleyes.gif

By the way, i've test driven the new Persona Elegance this evening. The handling is superb wink.gif

Even doing handbrake turn and slide when test driving. (even the salesman encourage me to do so)

Booked one unit wink.gif

What Victor87 says is correct.

You have the old saga, corolla LE or SE even the nissan sunny with available parts after many many many years. Either from taiwan or chop shops. If there is a market, there will still be parts.

I'm just stating that the car has been phased out and the newer model (ie Viva) is good for consideration if you want to keep up to date.

If I have RM33k budget for a 2nd hand car, what's your recommendation for daily city driving? And it's for a woman, so nothing too big that makes it a hassle to park the car tongue.gif

Hello, I’ve been eyeing a long time to get myself a car. I’m on a 3k salary, but would only can allocate about RM650 for car loan can max to 9 years.
I am looking for a car that can give me long journey peace of mind. I have no qualms on short disctance/ town driving, since I ride a bike. The car is for long distance journey mainly for weekend use or work related travel usually involving penang-kelantan, penang-kl. So I need a car powerful and safe enough for this purpose.
My GF Myvi is a great car. I’m not a racer but sometimes found it response slowly and the engine seems to be goin’ on OT when I try to push it over 140km/h. So I wanna get something different from it. My company has a proton perdana (before V6 version), I’m totally in love with the car for long distance! Low FC (applicable for long distance only), great handling and engine performance. It’d be a perfect car! But having monitoring, I found it has some minor problems also.
So here’s my option, option 1 to 4 is most prefer to least prefer:
Option:1
1. Brand. = Proton Perdana V6
2. Budget. = 40k (full loan) (additional 2-3k for minor fix)

Option:2
1. Brand. = Civic 1.7 (2001-2005)
2. Budget. = 60k (fullloan) (additional 2-3k for minor fix)

Option:3
1. Brand. = Proton Waja
2. Budget. = 35k (fullloan) (additional 2-3k for minor fix)

Option:4
1. Brand. = Proton Persona Elegence /Waja CPS
2. Budget. = 65k (fullloan)

So now some questions for those fimilar with the cars and car trade business.
1. Is a second hand local car i.e. Perdana/ Waja reliable? How is the maintenance like in long term? I know this is subjective to individual cars, but any general ideas?
2. What is the loan interest like for new and old cars? I’m confused with so many diff rates, e.g. I heard people said new car can get low as 2.x% while I refer cimb rate, old cars can get up to 4.2%. Is there anyway second hand agent can get better rates than that?
3. I haven’t driven a civic 1.7 before, but seems a good car, any comments on performance and maintenance?
I hope to get more information before I head to the dealers so I can have better understanding first. Please help 

Check youtube on

Mazda 3 vs Honda civic vs toyota

Honda won for allrounder
MAzda won best handling

But in Malaysia, for better market value and easy access to spare parts, take civic. BUt if you don't care, get the MAzda

*
after tested drive Mazda 3... I still feel my civic is better but also feel like change new car >.< quite hard to make decision..

new car and used car interest rate are both already increased, can check on cimb website under car refinancing...(2.7%--->3.5%, 3.x%--->4.0%, and for used minimum 4.5%). Will the interest usual fluctuate in a whole year?

Price of Saga is RM35k for BLM manual 1.3
RM 40k for BLM auto 1.3
persona RM 45k for BLM 1.6

Beside paying about RM 100 addition per month for a persona BLM, there is more space and looks much better. If you want to mod, it will look much nicer.

My vote is on the Persona BLM.

Bro,

i advise you to regularly put some amount in your bank account.

Eg RM3k per month on the 1st of every month. This can be used to show banks that you are financially stable. If you don't have RM3k, just borrow enough to deposit and then take out.

Toyota corolla LE, Nissan Sunny, Volvo 240, Nissan bluebird....But all before 1990s.

You cannot get RM5k for a car within 15 years.

Added on March 26, 2010, 9:30 pmI don't think it is auto. Maybe manual and maybe 850cc

get a used 1000cc kelisa auto and use the extra budget for the maintenance.
the car is quite reliable, nimble and surprisingly easy to manoeuvre around tight traffic!

again, a used kelisa 1000cc comes to mind!
but if you could afford a new one. new viva 850cc is very frugal on fuel.

forget the perdana. it's auto gar box is a headache without a proper atf cooler.
for a used car, you choice is down to civic and waja. then again, the better waja was the one with 4g18p which is
more responsive in low torque and a top speed of over 185km/h if you have the guts tongue.gif
since waja 4g18p(not the campro variant) engine is very reliable, you could opt for it due to it's lower price and use the extra for maintenance(cheapest to maintain among your 3 choice)
civic 1.7 is fine. more refined cabin ride compare to waja. no doubt it was the best looking / bigger 1.7 engine / among your option at almost double the price!

bear in mind, any used car might have unforeseen wear and tear which need to be replaced from time to time. so, persona elegance does come to picture.

as for the different interest rate, local car in proton and perodua usually comes at higher hire purchase interest rate(doesn't matter if it was a used or new one) compare to non national car.
you could check with different bank on the interest rate icon_rolleyes.gif
