1. Brand : Old Volkswagen or MINI CLUBMAN
2. Budget : Below RM8000
3. New/Used/Unreg : Registered lah... sleep.gif
4. Specs : Full Spec
5. Transmission : Manual
6. NA or FI : What is this?
7. Type : The normal one for both cars. 4 seats.
8. Remarks : Low mileage, GREAT engine, beautiful painting, suits female coz I am female. And the kind of car everyone wishes.

I am new to car driving, parents suggest to buy Kancil but I am very interested with volkswagen or mini clubman. still want to know which one is better though. I know the maintenance high but I think when I love the car, I wont drive recklessly~

Please advise.

PM for further details. thanks

you already speak on your obvious choice tongue.gif
if you are looking for a hatch, suzuki swift will fit into your budget without any problem. provided that you other commitment are minimal.

your parent could be right about the choice. just get a kancil which is easier to maintain / cheaper and wide range of parts availability.
simply by being a classic, volks beetle or mini clubman require a certain attention to the detail. could be a pain to maintain in the long run. besides the frequent case of engine dead on old car sweat.gif , they are quite a number of other factor that need to be address. parts availability, too much wear and tear.... not to mentioned the high mileage(if the odometer still working tongue.gif )
again, restoring a classic car does cost a lot and time consuming.
just my 2c icon_rolleyes.gif

I have one word of advise, avoid. the fait punto is a nightmare to maintain esp since its more than 10 yrs old. U still a student hence pls go for reliable and economical rides instead like viva, myvi or saga.

Avoid at all cost.

I would pick the city if ur budget allows too. But for 30k n less u can easily opt for a used waja, n go for the pre campro ones. Just becareful when finding a good used unit.

older nissan sunny is quite reliable but outdated exterior. lots of mechanic can handle the car thou.
if you want something that look nice, mazda astina is worth considering. year 1994 should be under 10k and you could use the spare for car maintenance.

cracksys@
waja 4g18p engine is surprisingly robust and very reliable. so does the gear box which require more mileage before service compare to city with cvt gear box which will cost almost 20k for a new replacement.
normal wear and tear on used car is expected. getting one with good service record will be fundamental.
go test drive and feel for yourself.

phat_mcjack@
welcome.
btw, mazda astina is sharing most of it's part with ford tx3. should not be a problem.
and it was reliable too. used to drive one back in my hometown. still going strong after all this years.
the hydraulic light never fail.

never measure the FC properly but 20 bucks of ron95 could cover around 105km which is about 9.x km/ liter.
thats for the 1.6 EFI astina.
if am not mistaken, 1.6 carburetor is available too.
pick up is good and stock suspension is one of the best i've d drive on stock car brows.gif

Mazda astina is a good car.

However, make sure you buy a good one because the spare parts are getting rare these days. Eg is the gearbox.

I used to drive the tx 3 sampan. 1.8cc. When my gearbox went kong, it was a nightmare trying to source for 1.

The mazda astina is a 1.6 and from what i hear, the bodyparts (eg the pop up lights, bumnper) are hard to source out.

Alternative that you should consider are the toyotal corolla and nissan bluebird.

regards,

The 4g18p is a reliable engine.

The problem with the waja are the power windows (which has been resolved thanks to the new proton management) and water pump.

The rest are reliable enough.

I was thinking of getting one. But i need a car with more torque.

In the end, it is a car worth considering.

regards,

For that amount of budget, i'd prefer Lexus....

A luxury toyota...

Good value for money, reliable, good 2nd hand value...

be different! either get a mazda 5 or an audi a4 and just enjoy the ride brows.gif

andreas@
low fc and good pick up? you could go for a used kelisa 1000cc and use the rest of the budget to pimp your ride.
or suzuki swift for the looks.
can't go wrong with both. just a matter of personal preference.

mrJohn@
your viable choice will be the kia forte. it easily offer the best bang for bucks!
else, wait for the new ford fiesta which is out soon thumbup.gif
not sure about maybank degree program, but they may require a copy of the scroll and letter of employment from the company.
