Need for Speed: Shift is the 13th installment of the long-running racing video game franchise Need for Speed; published by Electronic Arts.

It was announced in December 2008 as part of a three-game announcement that includes Need for Speed: Nitro and Need for Speed: World Online.

Shift was developed by Slightly Mad Studios in conjunction with EA Black Box and published for Electronic Arts.

In the new franchising model for the series adopted by EA, Shift takes its place focusing on simulation/arcade racing rather than the arcade racing of previous titles in the series.

i dilemma between buy tier4 car or work upgrade that lambo to race tier 4...

I haven't do a time attack on Nurburgring..
I prefer works car compared to Supercars..
Supercars are bumpy and hard to control...

even my GTR35 with works perform nicely against those supercars...

I don't know about Lambo but my GTR35 is so much more stable compared to those supercars that I always spin opponents(supercars) out easily..

Added on October 19, 2009, 2:44 amAnyway its so easy to earn money to buy another car in the game...
Here's how.. Go quick race.. set one lap on Miyatomi without "0" opponent..
then u get $20000 INSTANTLY!

Mostly we're on Streamyx, I think. But then, the ping is really bad, like 400ms and at one time, its 1000ms++. shocking.gif Still can play wut. Its not like this is FPS or MMO lol. laugh.gif

Ah playing with keyboard is really hard.

What driving options do you guys use? I cant manage without a lil steering assist sad.gif. All the cars are seriously freaking slow at the start, colliding with them a lil will make you lose control.

please advice me what to do if the game response is slower by a fraction of a second?

eg: when I turn my steering, after about 0.2 second only the steering in the game turn...

i wanted to format and reinstall windows...

do you guys know where does NFS:Shift save its savefiles too??

hopefully.. after reinstalling windows, just reinstall shift and put back the savefile to its ori location and i'm able to resume my game rite?

i hv recalculate the score given to shift by insidesimracing..based on their score given to other great sim titles.

Physics: 14.67/20 > lowest physics score even after extrapolated
Sound: 11.25/15
Model: 9/10 > nice car gfx
Cockpit: 9/10 > nicest in-game cockpit ever
Fun Factor: 8.25/10
Immersive: 8.5/10 > cockpit driving is immersive!!
FFB Realism: 7/10
Damage: 3/5 > kinda disagree with iSR score.to me it should be somewhere around 2-2.5
Skins: 4.5/5 > what to say? lots of choices + modding capabilities
Default: 2.5/5 > default game setting...could be lower

Total: 77.67 sweat.gif similar to that of iSR

physics n sound was extrapolated from iSR score.
model, cockpit, immersive, skins n default is mine.

hi all, would like to ask, with my current rig,

Athlon 64 3000+ with 1GB RAM and X800GTO, can I run this game?

After installation, I go into the game, the game only shows blackscreen, nothing come out, have to use Alt + TAB go back to desktop, and End Task it with Task Manager..

PC not good enough eh?

there's too much technical problems...
but i do find the game quite fun in realistic way.

Your 7400 OC till 8.0GHz also wont help much in the game.
I tried before, 7400 @ 2.80GHz still returns the same fps with 7400@ 3.36Ghz.

No ah. I dint say anything about gc.
No point you OC your processor to play games. The difference is not very significant.

FYI, I'm using only 9800GT for this game. Same processor and same amount of RAM with your rig. I got quite good performance when I run it in 1920x1080.

vista user here and fps are fine at full settings. btw haha didnt know shift was ran with physx. since opponents or your own car could be flipped so unrealistically. if shift has grid's damage and crash system then it would be nice!

(im not sure if i can post it here) there are some downloads available. its call NFS Shift Damage Mod (This mod increases the level of damage in NFS Shift. already tried that biggrin.gif but before this i'd prefer tweaking the values in the physicstweaker file. still, it doesnt make sense when u crash at 200miles/hour and still survive and car still drivable. btw hmm i'll ask this question again; do i have to unpack everything again in order to tweak the physicstweaker file? cuz after patching shift the physicsbootflow file is different already, unpacking would eat alot of disk space. sad.gif

GRID is nice^^ drift was my fav.

as much as i want im afraid i have to be honest. im using zonda R to get that time. rx-7 was my experimental car(im learning how to tune cars) to compare with zonda R lap time.

im using ps2 controller alike to play. set 'normal' on driving assist and drift. sometimes i tap brake or handbrake.

just finished playin' dis game.
fuh, feels like playing Gran Turismo (NFS Version)
realistic features, cars and tracks. superb sound effects, really feels like you, i on the track. only the game cramps my pc!
i wish i had a steering wheel...

short review=

+ realistic event, realistic cars, realistic handling
+ superb sound
+ all of the realistic part

- needed a true high-spec pc
- just race, race, race, after final event, nothing to do...

9/10. dunno whether it's the best of the series but, im looking forward to see illegal race with this graphic engine. it'll be cool! and more realistic even you didn't wanna bang police too much..

and just uninstalled it..

well, it's not fair to say that. yes, playing with racing wheel gives u better "feel", granted. but EA and teams has given all out to make this game not only realistic, but enjoyable even if u play with a controller/gamepad. icon_rolleyes.gif

i play this game with xbox360 controller, and it works like a charm. it is much much more realistic than GRID i must say.. nod.gif

i flipped through couple of pages and i found somebody posts Nordshleife lap time in 7m 40s in a stock GTR R35. so i give it another go coz my best is 7m 43s..

i want to order my copy of shift for my pc.
my specs is:
core 2 duo e6600
2gb ram
250 gts 512 mb

i want to know at what kind of graphics setting can i run shift smoothly.

so far i could max games like burnout paradise with 8x AA with a constant 60 fps that never drops below 58

so is shift this welll optimized too?

if u want to max out everything in shift, it can be pretty heavy when it comes to a situation where there's more than 5 cars in a screen(eg. during corners).. just try playing around with the setting, lower it down if u find it lag when racing with multiple AI, but if u r doing time attack alone, max should be ok i guess..

me spec can run smooth on 3 cars.
but started to lag with 6 cars.
and super lag with 14 damn cars rclxub.gif (causing a very hard to play)

this game hungry of cpu more than gfx.
me comp can handle it's max settings flawlessly, only with a bunch of cars would let down too much fps

I played on a laptop, still able to push to 1280x720 slightly low detail. But that's not the problem. THe problem is, the game will totall crash after I change graphic settings for the second time... Totally can't play the game now...

I tried clear all the user data (not yet try to reinstall), but it not help at all.

nobody here even tried to mod or tweak the physics file of shift? the unpacking only works for the very first version. after patching the physicsbootflow file is totally different, the content is all "bean-sprout characters". and since i cant even unpack the game the physicstweaker file cant be edited too.

Woot, thanks to this patch, now players on Asus UL80 can play Shift happilly, the graphics looks beter, gameplay smoother, no more crash! (oh don't be surprised, because any Shift review I read involve Asus UL80 ended up with CRASH result).

Now with this patch 1.02, finally ^^

Though, do we still need PhysX installed even aftger patch? The game become laggy when I hit any objects (a cone, tire whatever), guess the physics is making trouble......

What driving mode most of you plays anyway? I playes on Medium AI, Experienced Mode (ABS off)

3 months of waiting is not a waste...the patch that can justice my GC finally released...they just did the same thing like undercover patch, now my 4850 can full load all the time, with max setting @ 1280X1024, FPS always hit 60fps during race, even i play 15 opponents and start at the end, still manage to get >45fps...

I installed the game since the 1st day it released, only play for few %, can't stand with those micro shuttering and low fps during many opponents, then stop for 3 months to wait for the patch...

I think i will be busy racing from now on, becos got this game + Dirt 2 now... cry.gif

i'm using DFI P35 bloodiron main board, core 2 duo, 2GB RAM, GeForce 8500GT 512MB, but y it is laggy for me to play NFS Shift. its like frame by frame but not too obvious. what is the recommended settings for this spec?

its probably ur 8500GT.. u gonna need at least 9600GT to run it with acceptable fps imo... other spec looks ok to me smile.gif

you can try lowering down the shadows and effects.. ur GC memory is big enuff to hold high res texture i guess

The Nurburgring Nordschleife is a very old and treacherous race track.
It is super bumpy, especially with racing cars with big rims and hard suspension settings
(i.e - the CCX). Modern day racing mostly do not take place there anymore as the very
nature of the circuit will tear apart a car's suspension and bodywork.
Kudos to EA for being able to replicate this in the game.
It is NOT a game bug. In fact, if you race on it and there are NO bumps, that would
mean the game has a bug (or your car has got super soft suspension that absorbs all the bumps).

Just wondering, do y'all drive with force feedback??

I just feel I'm weird cuz I set FFB to 0, the steering feels so light and able to turn it faster..

The tier is not really an issue. THe real issue is wether we can control the car or not sweat.gif
If you ask me to play those supercars like Zonda-R... I can only get about 7:20... suck cry.gif because hard to control...

I watch some video on youtube, but unfortunately, they get good lap time due to turning on all the assists (you can see the 3 assist icons flashing at bottom right corner) unsure.gif

Basiclly I don't like to use too much assists, cuz it make the driving feels weird... Currently only using Low Steering assist (cuz I play on keyboard...) wink.gif

Ya hardcore racers will try to get the hang of not having ABS,TC and SC..
Kinda hard at 1st as you can't do heavy braking if you're not driving str8, but slowly you'll get used to it

Yes indeed, I started playing SHIFT with all the assists off. But found that it really no way to control even a tier-2 car without turning on streering assist...

Driving the crazy Zonda-R, careful not put your rear tire on the "road-banks" (the stripe things, what it called?), else it will almost guerentee spin-out when you tap the brake ><"

I tried a stock GRT Spec-V on that... what name again (quite a hard-to-read-name) track, only did it 7.40, not a clean lap cuz not familiar with it's handling yet...

here's my personal advice, DON'T use steering assist even if you are keybod warrior.. I started the game using keybod, NO steering and NO braking assist, or else it won't be fun, it'll be like the system controling the car for you.

The only assist i used during keybod days was TC,SC and ABS..

Now that I'm on steering, I prefer to off all assist..
Keep in mind this game consist the simulation element in it, so don't bring the high speed arcade racing habit of other previous NFS to this game, its not the same..

Check your controller status at Game Controllers under Control Panel. Check functionality of all button there, make sure all button function. Inside game, go to Option > Game play > Control. Edit controls there for your button configuration that suit with you. Hope this will help a bit blush.gif

Kalau G210M I guareentee you lepas (with latest patch of course), but G105M tak pastilah, sebab ia cuma lebih kurang setengah power berbanding G210M (only half the vertex pipeline)...

(saya sedang guna G210M... Played on 1280x720 medium, no AA)

judging from the mininum specs, my lappie just a lil above that. LOL.

tried the *ehem* version first, and i manage to run it... until the first corner of the 'test lap'. it crash. then i repeat the step. 10 times.

so i just dengar je la "the best car, the best driver bla bla" 10 times. LOL. and it pretty sluggish. so i think cannot play la. thx for the feedback guys. biggrin.gif

I actually drive with all my assists off (despite being on keyboard), and as a result this made driven RWD cars much much much more challenging than driving a 4wd or FF car.

Especially in some tracks with tight corners (especially bloody S-turns or Z turns), I literally just fly out on the 2nd turn, because car just becomes nigh uncontrollable.

Perhaps my settings is the root of the problem because I left them on default... (i drive a stock cayman s on nurburgring and the laptime was only a lousy 8.45), or perhaps my driving is not very refined for RWD.

Maybe you guys can give me some tips on how to set up my car, and/or my driving.

Even the "slower" RX-8 giving me lots of trouble trying to control it... Need lots of fine-tuning over the suspension to make it stable enough.

Ironically, I have the same problem hahaha. RX8 was not a big problem with tier 1 upgrades (in fact I found it quite driveable). However once tier 2 upgrades came in it started to scare me. And tier 3 was nearly undriveable...

I WORK converted it.... it so shake shake when on low speed~ EVen I try to eliminate the oversteer, but it still keep happening... duh~

Yeah, it a nightmare to steer the steering properlywth keyboard sweat.gif Currently playing with LOW-steering assist, and with Stability Control turned ON...

I was abit -> rclxms.gif when I read about the Ferrari lineup update, but after I read till the end of the article (in Multiplay), I changed to this -> mad.gif

Hmm, last time before I install the patch, as long as the graphic setting IS NOT the default one (even edit the xml config file manually...), the game will crash... Haiz... I thought they said they fixed the black-sky problem in 1.1, but it still occur... ?_?

Not install 1.2 yet...

does any of u find that all cars in NFS shift slide easily.. even at low speed i'll have the back of the car sliding while cornering.. is there any fix for this? even Rfactor's handling is not like this

hey guys, im using Windows 7 Ultimate x64... but the game is installed into the program files(x86) folders.

in regards to this.. at first round after installation i tried starting the career after the video, but it loads really really long.

then i downloaded the 1.02 patch from nfs website... both the North American and Other version... but when i try to run the patch it just pops up and goes away... the updater didnt stay on to load.

Anyone has the same problem?

but i dont know what i did... reinstalled the game and manage to play the game. loading time was pretty much faster now.

played till one point where i can use a super car to race against another.. i notice too when i try to turn with keyboard the super car just goes oversteer like crazy hahaha.. i feel u guys.

all 32 bit programs are installed in program files(x86) folders... that means almost evey program you install onto 64bit goes there...

Can anyone confirm if my PC specs need to be upgraded in order to play SHIFT? or any other settings need to be done?

hi, i just installed the nfs shift and when is click to run the game, a messege came out saying "the application cannot be becuase physx cannot be found. this problem may be fixed by reinstalling the program." and i did reinstall it. can a ati support physx? btw my spec is stated in my siggy.

can teach me how to disable the auto brake in the game? like when i approach a corner the car will slow down automatically. and another thing is that when i take a corner at high speed, the car will slide off the track and how can i reduce that? thnx for helping out.

Turn of Brake Assist in the gameplay menu, if i'm not mistaken.. hmm.gif

and about that high speed slide.. well i get that all the time; just have to slow down until you feel the car is turning the way you want (assuming u have the racing line off)

with the racing line on, my style with my MOMO is i release throttle when near a corner, apply brake slightly in the yellow region and stomp it hard when it's red (ABS on).
