Hello, probation period of 6 mths is normal. My company also is 6 mths. (Although for me it was 3 mths only heheh since i was freelancing / internship with them for so long before that) After confirmation your gaji will naik. RM1.6 maybe will get 1.8-1.9 like that. Not good enough meh? Fresh grad in a job market SATURATED with IT degree holders you take what you can get for now, get work experience then you can jump ship later. Don't be greedy and think of the immediate benefits. "Wah I graduate I want to earn RM3k and buy big big car...etc" It took me almost 4 years to reach the 3k mark (but i'm not in the IT line so it may differ...). Want to earn a lot straight out of college? Join daddy's company. Or sell VCD. tongue.gif

Here goes mine:-

Job Title : Investment Analyst
Job scope : Prepare and monitor portfolio strategy, analyse companies for investment
Company : The largest unit trust company in M'sia... hehehe
Experience before joining : fresh grad
Tenure: 3 years
Education Lvl: B.Eng (Hons) from Imperial College
salary: 25++

Anyway, I did an engineering degree... now, working as an investment analyst. Eventhough, I have few reservations about the job but it didn't deter me to learn new things... hence, within 3 years I have proven to be at least on-par if not better with my colleagues who's doing degree in Investment related field.

My first post in lowyat

Job Title : Customer Support System Engineer (Note the 'Engineer')
Job Description : Repair & service photocopier/xeroxgraphic machines (technician lor)
Company : MNC from the land of 'Fuji' mountain (waa.. I gave away too much already lor)
Industry : service/support
Tenur : 2 years contract
Experience before joining : fresh grad
Duration with current company: entering 2 months
Salary : RM 1400 + 100 contract allowance

Saw this one in The Star's saturday pullout in January, later send resume, few weeks later got 1st interview, one week after that 2nd interview. Got the job on the spot. Offered "exec in nature" position as Customer Support System 'Engineer'. The HR girl asked to sign contract on the spot (take it or leave it). Too naive/desperate signed the contract.

Went for first day of job, uh-oh,

1st warning sign

- when people there asked you whether you're staying for a while (blah after training) or the long haul (few months after that) must be something wrong with the company. Company retention is ultra-bad even if compared Ah Kaw & sons company level (were talking about one of those big US-japanese joint venture MNC here). People leaving like someone just farted after eating durian

2nd warning sign
- met x-uni mate from johnson&johnson medical saying the company you're working for just had a strike a few weeks back. Oopss.

3rd warning sign
- Noticed that only you and the other newcomers had a degree in the department (the others are mostly dips and sijils)

4th warning sign
- Technician and engineer means the same thing here. So Customer Suppport System Engineer = technician

summing up

Rushed home like crazy, scanned the contract again and noticed this one clause - "since your position is executive in nature, cannot joined any union , cannot claim OT and all those stuffs". Position is exec in nature but job responsibilities are those of non-exec.

Conclusion

Company employing degree holder, must accept exec-position, but be technician, cannot do claim = company saves a lot of money. Career path is almost non-existent (have to wait 13 years to be team manager?!!). Can get allowance after training, but no employee retention program (so job satisfaction depends how desperate you are for money)

Now already giving away resume like crazy (even any job with less pay is okay).

Just want to know, if other companies are doing the same right now. It's not that I had a grudge agains technicians or anything (my workmates there are super cool). Just that I feel the company should just say Technician and didn't use the 'sign-the-contract-now-take-it-or-leave-it" tactic. Last time I check only those gores and menang scam used that.

So what do you think ?

i think i'm being underpaid...2 of my colleagues who came in about 6 months after me got a better increment than i did and now they are earning more than me, mainly because they were given more important tasks (i.e tasks-that-can-cause-a-substantial-increase-in-salary-once-the-CEO-knows-about-it). one of them left anyways to earn more...i'm just about ready to jump ship at any moment...

well, if you just recently work as on this month, I foresee the salary would be very low. Coz many local U grads are out already. Dipping as low as RM1200 ohmy.gif

well, that was why I waited until nearly the end of the year to get a job which was b4 this crisis hit me. Coz having to find a job now would kill your salary where you have to dip so low to secure a job. Those people are the one that spoilt the market. Not me. I got offered RM1200 b4, as I was saying , how can you ppl take this amount for a fresh grad. Darn the local U all finish at the same time.
