depends on your situation...
some prefer jpeg, where as some swear by raw... hehe
If you are into tweaking your pictures... then maybe you should give raw a try.
If you are too lazy to do much... then jpeg will save you the time and effort

thats an uneducated guess from an inexperienced newcomer to dslr

depend how u see it. *edit: seriously, everyone has thier ideal bout raw or jpeg. jsut try it out, see how u like it

i got advise from pro saying the total opposite thing.
if u are lazy, or dunno how to set the WB, use raw, then set the thing later (or more like, if u dunno what setting to use, use raw)

if u know what u wan, which WB to use, manual setting with the right exposure, why not shoot jpeg?

even many pro didnt bother to use raw, as they say, too much work to deal with later.

so it really depends, for newbie, try it out, see how you like it, if u dont mind the extra post processing time consumed, go ahead...
some people are soooo good with photoshop, they can alter a jpeg far more then a raw software itself.

but for product shooting or advertisement or super blown up roadsign afvert, raw is recommened. but if u have a A900 "24mp", do u really need raw?

*edit: in the end, if ur machine has off-focus calibration, what u shoot also not sharp, even with raw, a blur photo is still blur.

to say, the purpose of raw is to set the colors effect to it. it doesnt help at all if ur photo is blurred. which in my case, 99% of my photo is blur due to the calibration couldnt fix by sony

Read from their website that Optics Pro V5.3.4 starts to support Alpha A200 and A300s.... does it mean that any older version than that dont work with images from A300??

I can get my paws on V5.3.2 or V4.5.1 Elite, will these work with images from A300??

Note to self.... learn to take pics, then learn PP, and work yr way up..... geez....

Maybe somebody who has been using DxO can comment as I have only just started reading about the s/w.

Previously, RAW2JPEG conversion has not been well supported in the mainstream photo editing s/w such as CS etc... Hopefully with DxO, Sony will persuade (or maybe buy over the company wishful thinking ) DxO to continue supporting alpha range and lenses to provide us tools to improve image quality
