Hey furrybutts,

Which obedience training school you're sending Sherry to? I'm looking at a few places listed here (in the earlier pages) and is considering to send Poppy there too. Kindly advise the cost and schedule smile.gif

Hey rayne,

Thx a lot for your advise. I still have 2 months to think about it before Poppy turns 6 months old. My vet is telling me she's ready to spay once she hits 6 months old.

Btw, what are we expected to do once our furkids is done with the operation? Anything that we should be aware of such as showering..feeding certain food etc etc? How long does it take (approx) to heal?

Latest update: Poppy's potty training is running smoothly for the past few days. I'm so happy everytime she does it right. Its almost 80% success rate now. Thx to all MS owners here for your advises. I guess u guys were right..with the right technique and patience..she'll do it right.

i've enrolled her with the puppy.com.my class http://www.puppy.com.my/ob/ it's rm250 for 10 classes (1hour/week for 10 weeks)

This I think you need to get advice from your vet, but I think as all post-operation procedure goes, we should keep the area clean and dry as much as possible. I think your pup might need to wear the e-collar to prevent her from licking the wound. Feeding I think shouldn't be a problem coz it's not affecting the digestive system, but then again check with the vets to confirm. I think it should heal maybe in a week or two? Sorry, I haven't gone through this operation with Scottie yet so I have no idea. That's about what I remember from my friends' experiences and all...

Hey furrybutts,

Thx for the info. I'll check it out soon. Might enrol once Poppy's fully vacinated.

Hey rayne,

Will surely consult the vet next week when I bring Poppy in for a visit. Thx a lot for your advises too!

I've managed to learn much from u guys/gals here. U guys rock! Hope the MS gathering will be around soon so I can finally meet u guys and see ur beautiful furkids!

Added on June 18, 2010, 3:25 pmDun worry furrybutts, Poppy is not 100% right still. She still bites her pee pan out (the pampers) sometimes and creates a mess out of it. I hope they'll grow out of it soon. At least we're seeing progress in their growth wink.gif

Checking out the classes u mentioned. Looks good. Might check it out (if they allow) this sunday @ taman desa.

hey mtee7,

drop by for the 6pm-7pm class this sunday @ tmn desa, i'll be there with sherry biggrin.gif

my vet said that i'll have to leave sherry at the clinic for 1 night post-op. As rayne said, she will most likely have to wear an e-collar so that she doesn't pull out the stitches but i'm not sure how long the e-collar needs to be on.

when i sent my rabbits for spay & neuter, post op care basically consisted of giving them a warm and quiet environment to recuperate. Food and water was offered as normal. I think it'll be similar for dogs, we'll have to make sure they get good rest, and don't over excite themselves (e.g jumping around) to avoid tearing the stitches.

Hey furrybutts,

I'll try to make it but most probably wun bring Poppy as she's still not done with her final vacination. Even if I bring her, she'll have to stay in the car wink.gif

I'll speak the vet and get more info next week. Poppy's a really active pup and I'm worried if she can stay still and not hurt her wound.

It was nice meeting furrybutts and her cute MS Sherry on Sunday on Sherry's first day out. Hope she had fun.

HOG quoted me approximately RM 50-60 for grooming but they say final charges are based on the dog's size. I have yet to send Poppy there but intend to try it once maybe next week. They used to groom my long haired dashund (sigh) and I was happy with the results.

Hey eric, I'm looking forward to a MS gathering also. Hope to see u guys around!

it was nice meeting you too, mtee7! Sherry didn't have as much fun as I hope she would..the trainers said most puppies are a bit 'lost' the first few times they go out & socialize. She didn't want to walk on her leash, or come when called or sit when told.. She just seemed a bit stoned the whole time hehe Hopefully she starts enjoying her outings soon smile.gif

I'm up for MS gathering, just let me know where and when!

Hey girley,

I don't have 1 spare one now but do look out for some of the pet shops as they sometimes have stock clearance with huge discounts.

Umm...I don't know about the others, but I never really 'handled' Scottie when his teeth fell off. laugh.gif Sometimes I don't even know that his baby teeth fell off until I noticed his teeth were considerably bigger and less sharp compared to his puppy times. No worries about that I think...just let her be herself and all smile.gif

Michi is such a cute MS.

As for my Poppy, I think I've seen 1 of her baby tooth falling before and it was so tiny. It didn't seem to bother her at all.

Puppy teeth sometimes will be consumed, and sometimes dropped out. Don't worry too much about it, unless you have plans to collect it as souveniers.
Try not to wiggle it off, else it can cause more damage than normal (the puppy can feel the pain if it is bad, but you can't).
You only need to ensure that the teeth does not impede the growth of the adult tooth, as sometimes the puppy teeth simply refuses to come out. Your pup will be "ngar-chat-sou" then ...hahaha... joking, just go to the vet if you sense trouble. Besides that, enjoy your time with your pup, it will grow up very very very fast biggrin.gif

Don't worry about Poppy's operation..i used to be so worried when i sent Pepper for the ops that i cried right outside of the clinic after i left her there blush.gif
Doc said for us we feels as if it's very painful but for the dog their tolerance of pain is much much more than us human, so it's just a small ops for them.
Pepper 1st day is just sleeping and sleeping and manja..i fed her kibbles bit by bit and gave her glucose water.
2nd day she's walking around and playing with her toy, but can still see she dare not stretch her body.
3rd day, already like a little dragon jump up and down =.="
She fully recovered in a week. But i didn't bring her out 1st week coz scared overstress her wound, only bring her out 2nd week after ops for exercise.

About the stitches, you can request the vet to do inner stitch, it's those that don't need to go back to doc to take out the stitch and good thing is the dog can lick the wound and will not be able to bite out the stitches.
For Pepper's case, the stitch is barely visible even on the 1st day when we went pick her up.

I bought e-collar but when i put it on her, she refused to move and will just sit there regardless how long it is as long as the e-collar still on her... =.="
So i took it off after she sitting there 30min with such position on 1st day itself.

As for care for the wound, just keep it dry and clean will do.
If got infection, the skin around the wound will feel hot (tht's what the vet told me), then will need to bring back to the vet.
After ops 1 week only can bath the dog.

Don't worry too much.
Poppy will recover in no time ^^
