Guys, what are some decent stores to find leather shoes (loafers to be specific)?

If you have 1k to spend I would suggest to some proper good year welted shoes from Loake or Barkers. Even blake stitch italian made shoes arent too bad either and probably more choices to choose from. Personally I quite like the ones from Paul Smith.
I wouldn't spend the money on shoes from Zara or Topman. They aren't very well made shoes, same can be said for the quality as well.

I’m willing to spend 1k on shoes if and only if they are waayyy more comfortable to use for long hours standing. Ain’t gonna invest in one of my feet still sore like wearing topman Zara

Oh the heartache when the object of our affection is the interface to a cruel world. Haha.

You already have an excellent answer from bro kelvw who has more good dress shoes than I have good dress shirts.  biggrin.gif

Anyway, I concur that you just have to accept it as wear and tear.

All my shoes have, or will have in the case of my new Loake Aldwych, either a topy or a rubber toe tip because my toe wears out much faster than the rest of the shoe. If that weren't the case, I would be happy to use the leather sole as it is.
*
Oh, where do you usually send your shoes for topy, you will send it while your sole is virgin or about to worn out. I think i need to do as well, as water tends to seeps into the soles during rainy days.

Can I ask, where do you topy your shoes? Professional Shoe Repair at IPC is no more. Thanks a lot

No 'usual' place for me. I just send wherever. I do interview the person first to ask how he plans to do whatever job it is I'm asking for (topy, heel replacement, etc). Oh and I'm not in KL, so I can't recommend any cobblers in KL.

I send my shoes for topy-ing when I get annoyed by the toe wear tongue.gif So not virgin, but far from being worn out.

Thanks to the reply. I’ve tried Mr Minit before for a complete resolve. Not bad results

Tried a Mr Minit branch before too for a heel replacement. They did a good job. Only thing is I hated the fact that they sprayed some glossy finish on top before giving me the shoes. When I asked them why, they said so that I don't have to brush them often. I said it's my habit to brush it before and after each wearing so please ask next time. I renomat-ted them when I got home...

I did ask them about Goodyear welted resole, they said they could do it. But I got a bit nervous when they said they will insist on changing the whole welt as well and not just the outsole, regardless of the condition of the welt. Basically like a factory recraft, but without the benefit of the original last...

I would be a bit apprehensive about GW resole without the original last. My resole was a cemented shoe which I was willing to sacrifice so to speak.

For the major rehaulling job, better send to ori factory where they have the GYW machine. I heard Japan have them, but the only issue is the absence of last.

Anyone have experience with StopNGo at Mid Valley?

Agreed...but my gripe is why would a full welt replacement automatically be necessary? If they were open to not replacing it, then they wouldn't need a GYW machine.

Also, I didn't ask them directly, but since they insist on replacing the welt I assumed they DO have a GYW machine. Maybe not at that particular branch, maybe they have a central place to send more complicated jobs. IDK.

I don't think there are any GYW machine in the country as the demand is very low to non existent. I believe they would outsource it to other vendor in the foreign land...

There is another solution to this, is to buy as many new shoes for rotation that resoling is impossible in the lifetime. Lol

So you reckon Mr Minit hand stitches the gemming to the welt?

My interest in piqued! Someone go buy a GYW shoe at a bundle shop and send for resoling. We disect it afterwards. Lol.

I didn't look at the Skolyx's private label in detail as they were promoting the TLB brand which was much better. In fact I'm very impressed with it, bevelled waist with closed channel stitching at very reasonable price. Sub £350?
The patina on the shoes looks good too.

They offer patina service too
