Hi all, after lurking here for awhile, I finally got my first proper, real dress shoes from P.Lal which is a pair of Loake's.
https://i.imgur.com/h24DQbk.jpg I was mainly wearing slip-on square shaped glued based faux leather shoes before this (i know, I know..) and now I have officially started my first proper job, I thought it's time I get something proper. I haven't got enough cash to buy 2 pairs to rotate yet, so I probably will rotate with my current slip-on for awhile until I buy another pair. I bought a Colonnil wax polish from P.Lal as well but I am super novice in leather shoes care. this pair I got is a polished leather. Any simple guide I can follow for routine shoe care? both on the top and bottom leather sole? Thanks in advance! ADD ON: heard the Saphir Renovateur is very good for nourishing the leather and Pommadier is good for general cream. For the Pommadier should I choose black or neutral color? Hmm This post has been edited by zellleonhart: Mar 25 2018, 05:28 PM |

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « Congrats on your purchase! Rotating with your existing shoes is a good idea. I did that too. I still do actually, when one of my shoes is at the cobbler. Renovateur is good but not strictly necessary. Black pommadier will give some nourishment to the leather and help to cover scuffs as well and is a good starting point for your shoe care. More importantly get a brush for brushing off dust before and after use. It doesn't take long, only about 10 seconds each shoe. Try to get a horsehair brush, the nylon brushes you get at the supermarket shoe care section are a bit too stiff IMO. Unless you've been in mud or something then you need to wipe it down with a damp cloth or tissue first. If your shoes are a bit tight and are difficult to put on when new (it should be that way if you've bought the right size), always use a shoe horn when putting them on. There's no going back from a bent and crushed heel counter. Use shoe trees if you have them, 2-3 minutes after taking them off. In our heat/weather, it's necessary to allow the bulk of the humidity to escape your shoes first. |

How much was it bro? WJ and co, the cheapest shoes they carry are Carmina, which can be had for just under 1.9k: https://www.wjandco.com/collections/carmina-shoes |

QUOTE(raclette @ Mar 26 2018, 09:02 AM) thank you from a lurker here! Unfortunately the Loakes at P Lal are mostly 650+ nowadays. The Loake L1 is somewhere about 622 but there's no stock for the common sizes (size 8-9.5). I looked at many models that was about RM750+- but mostly no stock.zeve looks affordable for me. whats the price range for P Lal, WJ and Co? any other option for below 500? been wearing bata ambassador all this while since i dont wear leather shoes to work. only for special occasions. otherwise itd be safety boots or sneakers. Heck, even during lunch I might passby outdoor for a short while. I feel painful looking at the leather sole being walked on tar road. Is it ok to do so? Thinking that I bought an expensive pair of shoes but can't really wear it freely, yet changing shoes just for going out for lunch seems overkill. How do you deal with this situation? I haven't applied a topy as the uncle at P.Lal said better experience leather sole for few months only apply. |

QUOTE(zellleonhart @ Mar 26 2018, 08:56 PM) Answered that above. Unfortunately that's inevitable, however you'll be surprised how sturdy leather soles are. I wouldn't worry too much about it and less so since you have another pair for rotation. No issues with it but just don't go stepping on rocks. Heck, I've even gone through snow and slush (I should have checked the weather report). Dried it and it's fine to carry on. |

You already have an excellent answer from bro kelvw who has more good dress shoes than I have good dress shirts. Anyway, I concur that you just have to accept it as wear and tear. All my shoes have, or will have in the case of my new Loake Aldwych, either a topy or a rubber toe tip because my toe wears out much faster than the rest of the shoe. If that weren't the case, I would be happy to use the leather sole as it is. |

Hi guys,
I have a pair of brown leather shoes that are scuffed in a few areas. Any recommended place in Klang Valley that I can send to get them polished? Not really keen on doing it myself as I'm afraid I might make it worse. |

Any shoes that are comfortable and stylish for standing for like 10 hours a day?
My budget is rm1000. Hush puppies doesn’t look as good as those fashion brands like Zara and topman.. Is Loake comfortable to stand for 10hours straight? |

If you have 1k to spend I would suggest to some proper good year welted shoes from Loake or Barkers. Even blake stitch italian made shoes arent too bad either and probably more choices to choose from. Personally I quite like the ones from Paul Smith. My budget is rm1000. Hush puppies doesn’t look as good as those fashion brands like Zara and topman.. Is Loake comfortable to stand for 10hours straight? I wouldn't spend the money on shoes from Zara or Topman. They aren't very well made shoes, same can be said for the quality as well. |

QUOTE(hakunamatata @ Apr 1 2018, 01:54 AM) dainite/vibram sole with good year welted stitching will be very durable. Personally I think English shoes are more durable in construction compared to italian. The best is to buy 2 pair of shoes and wear them in rotation. Never wear them twice or more in a row, that would prolong the life of the shoes/leather. Get shoetrees as well. Even the most expensive brand will get worn out quickly if not looked after properly. Pricing is immaterial to durability. |
