Musical side also not that good for Pioneer.
Again, before I get flamed, I want to point out that only the lower end series of Pioneer is like that, higher end(LX) are better, but again with that price, I can get other brand that can do the saem icon_rolleyes.gif

Marantz are good in musical and have solid bass. That's why after I spent rm2300 for the AVR, I no need to change sub liao.
And to say Pioneer(entry level) strong in bass also not that right, if speaking of flat vs flat on EQ settings.
This is the review I get when I change from VSX-816 to SR5007.

Is not a fair comparison in your case. The pioneer is a older model and the marantz as new model sure have improve a lot.

Don't know on this, usually I'll dig the service manual first laugh.gif
Then will see is there any major change or not. Some even using the same DSP, output board for few years laugh.gif

If just changing the naming and internal still using the same, no point also sweat.gif
Like certain models can update the ROM to have atmos, which means it is just using software to change the sound behavior shocking.gif

This might be true but new model sure is backward compatible and older model just cannot do what new model can do. So the x40 series might not be able to do DTS x

Yup, you are right on this, that's why sometimes I like to stress is hardware driven or software driven. If hardware driven, then is something can't be changed easily, if using software to tune, then it can be control with our finger icon_rolleyes.gif
Like atmos, 4K or whatever marketing gimmick, when doing the recording, do they put extra mic on top? I doubt so.
This is where a strong DSP chip comes in to play.

how is that possible when there's no height channel in your 7.1 setup?
