Closing of acceptance tomorrow. Interviews still going on and quite surprised if they don't come close to the number.

Yet to understand how the intake really works here. Since the interviews started mid of last year, there have been a fair bit of rejections but somehow they still cater for "last minutes". For "smart" students, they will find a way for you!

Med scholarships overseas are running dry since the last one to two years since Perdana n Numed came onto the scene as most, if not all the students are gomen sponsored. The issue of scholarships holders defaulting is due to the poor enforcement.

When you get "cows", you feel bad taking action against these "poor" ppl. I don't see a likelihood of overseas med scholarships this year as Ipts scholarships are also restricted to just 3, all Glc-owned.

I dont think its lack of students, rather some space for last minute smarties n the waiting list. Wish you a good time in PD.

Heard abt one lucky person, if you can call that!

A fren was informed that his application to a UK university for medic was put on hold (presumably waiting list). What are the chances of securing a place. Is there a need to pay the one semester fees over here if the dateline for acceptance here is at the end of the month?

Either you save that Proton Saga or you got to let it go!

Just a little off topic. Sometimes too much negative comments create a bad perception. Looking at the recent Mahsa advert on their nursing grads gives the impression that the quality is commendable given that many of them are employed overseas including sg n mid east. This is in contrast to those highlighted that many are unemployed. Maybe quality makes the difference. I am not saying Mahsa is good, just that the advert has proven a pt or two.

Hope that priority still be given to UK grads. The diff is still not that great between supply and demand and we never know 5 years down the road. But I read somewhere that incoming or existing med students will STILL be given places.

Maybe later on when the supply exceeds demand and cant be cope, they would give notice, one year in advance to intending students. Just like Aberdeen gave one year notice on the increase in fees for the pre-clinical.

Still pending one more decision from a university and thereafter UCAS only can process. The Glasgow secured offer will come after payment of 1,000 pounds which would be soon.

There is a conditional offer in writing sent by courier earlier and the A levels results given to them. Upon confirmation with UCAS and the payment, the unconditional offer will come.

Sign of the times or wat? With so many med colleges offering foundation programmes, a bit surprised to be a drop in the students intake with increasing number of students signing up for pre-u courses each year.

What MMC puts in doesn't really matter much. Its more important to get the recognition by SMC, if possible.

I thought JPA n Mara are allocated fixed no of places n the best of the lot took up the places.

How many med students were from MUFY this year? And I believe the number of JPA students has also been drastically reduced; last year was abt 40+, I think. Perdana students mostly gomen sponsored n some put into cheaper unis. Gomen austerity drive? Hope not - No Greece, please!

Last year's intake has about 30 to 40 students from MUFY and quite a number are JPA sponsored.

Where does the majority come from? STPM should be just a handful; A levels, SAM, Ausmat etc? I know a few who are from A levels and did not manage to secure places in UK.

Added on February 22, 2012, 2:50 pmIt is not so much of a drop in standards, the syallbus is the same and they sit for the same exams and markings are moderated. (Its the same for law and accountancy exams; for those Malaysian students who sit for the same exams as their UK counterparts, there should not be much difference and you would actually see Malaysian students among the price winners on a regular basis! We treat exams more seriously than most others.) Its the unfortunate thing for these borderline cases who will have problems even getting past Year 1!
