Park Ji-sung's agent claims the midfielder has agreed a new three-year contract at Manchester United.

The South Korean midfielder, who has been in talks with the Red Devils for some time, will now remain with the Red Devils until at least 2012.

Park joined United from PSV Eindhoven in 2005 and has been a considerable success during his time in England.

He has become an important cog in the Old Trafford machine, despite finding himself behind the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo for much of his time at the club.

He became the first Asian player to feature in a UEFA Champions League final when he featured in United's 2-0 defeat to Barcelona in May, while he has been crucial to helping raise the Red Devils' profile in Korea.

Park has now decided to commit his long-term future to Sir Alex Ferguson's side, with his new deal set to take him past his 31st birthday.

"Park and Manchester United have reached an agreement on a three-year deal," Park's agent Kim Jung-Soo told Yonhap news agency.

"The contract will be effective through June 2012."

Manchester United assistant manager Mike Phelan believes the decision to rush Rio Ferdinand back to fitness was justified against Tottenham.

The 30-year-old made his first appearance of the season after struggling with a calf injury and much to the delight of United completed the whole 90 minutes.

The champions produced their best performance of the season to end Spurs' 100 per cent start to the campaign by running out 3-1 winners at White Hart Lane.

The England international's inclusion came as somewhat of a surprise with many suggesting he would not be fully fit until the end of the month.

However Phelan reveals that the coaching staff have pushed the defender in training and now the former Leeds man looks likely to start in United's UEFA Champions League opener in Turkey against Besiktas on Tuesday.

"Rio worked hard during the last couple of weeks," Phelan said.

"He got the treatment he needed and was able to get out onto the training ground. We were pushing him a bit to play but he will be better for it."

With Wes Brown also back from injury manager Sir Alex Ferguson may opt for Jonny Evans to finally go under the knife to cure a persistent ankle problem after putting the operation off for the past 12 months.

The Northern Ireland international filled in for Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic with refreshing ease last term but he insists he still has a long way to go before he can consider himself a regular member of the first-team squad.

"You don't sit down after one game and think 'Oh I'm a Manchester United player now'," he told Inside United.

"There are plenty of players who played even 100 games for this club and aren't remembered.

"You want to make your mark on the history of the club. It is only then you can walk away and say 'I made it at United'."

Sir Alex Ferguson has admitted he would relish another chance to face Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League final this season, admitting the manner of the defeat affected him so much he took DVDs of the game with him on holiday to analyse.

The Manchester United boss witnessed his side succumb 2-0 to the Catalans in last season's showpiece in Rome and Ferguson revealed that some harsh lessons were learnt that night.

''I would love the chance to redress the situation with Barcelona. Absolutely. I would love another final with them," he told the Daily Star. "You look at that defeat and you can look at reasons and excuses. But it's always better to look at the reasons.

"We're now quite clear about where it went wrong and that's always helpful. There were valid reasons and so we were able to move on. I wouldn't go into the reasons for the defeat but I did take the DVDs with me on holiday and watched the game again.

"We went through everything too, with my backroom staff. The whole build-up. Everything. Was it the right hotel, was the training right? So we are quite clear about where we are now with that defeat.

"I quite like these games. It's not a problem. What went wrong against Barcelona can be put right. Certainly it will all be put right. I didn't kick myself over the summer. I have been long enough in the game to know that you can't win them all.

"Sometimes you just have to accept that bad days come along and you move on from there. It was disappointing though. You don't like losing finals of European games. It was the first one I have lost so it was really disappointing for everyone."

The Red Devils begin their European quest with a trip to Besiktas on Tuesday and Ferguson is expecting a lively atmosphere.

"There's a lot to be admired in that, their fanaticism," he added. "You expect that. The stadium is full at 12 o'clock on the day. It's amazing how they make that noise but you just have to deal with it.

"The Champions League is the priority. It's a great tournament, with all the best players and teams. So there's always the two challenges for us - the Premier League and the European Cup."
