Always-on just means that you can access the internet any time of the day, and all day if you want but yet pay the fixed package rate. Unlike the dialup days, where if you were always-on, your phone bill will shoot up very high as dialup was based on a usage basis. I do not think that always-on was advertised as meaning that you can always download 24/7. We have come to expect that though. Always-on is related to a fixed price in this case.
There is a difference between bandwidth and data transfer. Data transfer is the amount of data you can send and receive (upload / download). It is the quantity of data eg in MB or GB. Bandwidth is the speed in which you can transfer that amount of data. It is how fast you can send or receive that data. It is quanity per time frame.
Your package of eg 1Mbps or 4Mbps is already a limit of your bandwidth, so saying unlimited bandwidth is wrong. With a 1Mbps bandwidth connection, if you download 24/7 the whole month, you can download approx 300+ GB of data (data transfer). That is the limit of your data transfer per month under ideal conditions. So saying you have unlimited data transfer is wrong.
Given a specific timeframe, the 4Mb user can download more than the 1Mb user. Given a specific amount of data, the 4Mb user can download it faster than the 1Mb user. But there is a limit either by timeframe, amount of data or speed of connection. No such thing as unlimited.
The problem, why put unlimited...?
If they do have limit of bandwidth transfer, why certain people can download 1TB or more a month with 1Mb/sec package or other package... So, mean they implementations are failure for sure.... lack of technician experience...
We are living in real situations, unlimited are shown by TMNet for streamyx package before... tell me should they change the way they advertise, see what happen later...

When you want to compare with other countries, you have to look at overall advancement in those countries. Like the implementation of backbones line there and the living standard of the people there and even things like social awareness in downloading piracy in there.
Does £10 equal to RM10 here? How much does £10 can buy you think over in UK compared to Malaysia AFTER the conversion? Currency value is not just about the conversion but also the living standard and other scale of economy.
The development there allows them to offer huge bandwidth catering for all the high bandwidth users and still can provide satisfactory service after 1/4 throttling. What about in Malaysia? Does the same things can be applied? I do not know but tm people will know. My point is, you are not looking at the overall picture. Keep on complaining like wah Singapore already have 100mbps line!! Why here still so slow...blah blah blah. Looking things at surface value is what Malaysians only can do.
Added on August 30, 2009, 10:20 pmWho says streamyx does not have FUP?
http://www.streamyx.com/customer_care/cust...ir_usage_policyIf only people care to look. I already saw that like more than 6 months ago. I also remember seeing something like 10mb. It could be from another ISP's FUP or they edited it.
Anyway...ALL broadband provider now have FUP whether they call it one name or another. Only most users IGNORE them when they sign up. They did not even bother to question about them. I remember when I was looking to sign up Maxis' 3G service, I asked about this FUP by maxis in this forum but nobody even bother to find out what it is. All they cared is to compare what speed they are getting and how much they can download per day. Sure, when maxis started, they want your business, hence you can download at a comfortable rate. But then they start capping them, they will start complaining like some b**** and talking about consumer rights and all.
Of course la have FUP brader, the point is not having FUP here, but, you didn't get the point, its common sense, why put Unlimited...? People will think its unlimited bandwidth...
Whatever FUP is that, I never signed before (even seeing) with FUP limitations such bandwidth.
