QUOTE(Vagine @ Aug 24 2009, 11:21 PM)
still remember how shebby 'defending' his team during the 8games 2 points last season? lolz
*
But Shebby was right in the end. I hate Spurs to the core. But I'm also realistic. With the squad and players they have I thought it was pretty obvious too at that point that they were never in danger of getting relegated or finishing bottom half even with 2 points in 8 games.

QUOTE(ocz @ Aug 24 2009, 11:25 PM)
IMO,spuds wont even touch the top for the rest of this season. biggrin.gif
*
To be honest they do look a more balanced team this year. Like I said I hate them but I'm also realistic. Harry has had a pretty decent transfer summer and they could well finish in either one of the European Cup places this year. Europa League place that is nod.gif They will challenge for a top 4 spot but will fade away sooner or later. Squad too thin. A few injuries here and there and a few fixtures against ourselves, Man Utd and Chelsea will put them in their place tongue.gif .

But the advantage that they have this season is they are free from any European commitment having failed to qualify last year. They could concentrate fully on the BPL.

Btw our Reserves vs Fulham at 2 am if anyone is interested

1-3 now....Poor defending IMO. Reo Coker practically strolled through there...

Back to a bit of Arsenal though our Reserves made the perfect start to the season with a 3-0 win over Fulham.

Sunu, Coquelin and Deacon the scorers

Ah how can you not know Coquelin haha or you forgot ? hmm.gif One of our highest rated youngsters apart from Wilshere, Vela and Ramsey. Plays primarily as a DM. Could e a very very good backup to Song in that DM role in 1 or 2 years time.

He made an appearance in that 6-0 thrashing of Sheffield United last season when Vela scored the hattrick. That is the only first team appearance he has made for us but if you have been following and watching our pre-season games both last season and this season then you couldn't have missed him IMO.

le Coq.... great prospect... he's one to watch in the future... If he keeps on improving at the rate he is now, he could be even better than Song. A box-to-box player like Vieira is more likely.

QUOTE(RO Player @ Aug 25 2009, 12:22 AM)
Problem is AW too selective and reserved in buying quality players (dont want to pay extra transfers fees and salary, i.e. rooney, MU paid 20m for him and see where is he now, etoo... etc) let the youngster groom to take those 1st team. And problems come year after year...trophyless  which getting frustration among the gunners' fans. I hope that AW can buy a striker and a defender, someone again injured which as always unforeseen this small problems.

Get some quality players to add depth as Arshavin says and others.  shakehead.gif
*
As Arshavin says? I for one don't agree that managers should succumb to the demands of players. I agree with Andy to a certain extent that we may require more additions, but that's due to the lack of quantity in our squad rather than quality.

The latest rumour about Chamakh is that we've already agreed on terms and fees with Bordeaux, but the sale of Ade and Kolo gave them the opportunity to blackmail us for more money, and hence we pulled out of the deal. There's no guarantee how true this may be, but as mentioned before the odds are against Bordeaux as Chamakh can leave for nothing next summer. West Ham might be the latest interested party but judging from Chamakh's camp he isn't too keen to go there. If he truly wants to come to Arsenal then he'll be forced to play hardball with Bordeaux like how Andy and Bak did.

You cannot compare the 20M MU paid for Rooney. Spending huge amounts of money on a player is always a gamble, and even back at the time when Rooney was available, we simply cannot afford to compete financially with them. However, our club has its own attractions and hence we managed to fend off MU by getting Ramsey. And don't forget, we paid pennies for Fabregas and Merida, and Wilshere is our own product.

Anyway, read the following interview with le Boss:
QUOTE
How do you respond, though, to the criticism of many, including some Arsenal fans, that you have such a strong belief in this philosophy that you are now entrenched? You wouldn’t change it even if you could. You could be two players away and you still wouldn’t buy them.

Yes, but once you get into that position you are in a trap. When Cesc Fabregas was 18, 19, I would play him in a 4-4-2 with Patrick Vieira and I saw it did not work. Then I had the decision to make about letting Patrick go, because Gilberto Silva and Vieira worked, Fabregas and Silva worked, but I could not play Fabregas and Vieira. But Fabregas was 19 and if he did not play I knew he would want to go, so we risked destroying everything, all the work we had put into this player. Now we have that same situation with Jack Wilshere.

He is 17 and we cannot ask him to play every game to win the championship, he will play a few games maybe. But next year he will be ready to play all the time, he will want to play all the time and if we have bought a player in his position he will want to go. That is why you either have a policy of buying confirmed players, top, top players of 23 or over, or doing it as we are. (Animatedly.) The team we have now gets there. At 22 or 23 I think a team is mature enough to deliver and it is a massively important year for our club. I am conscious of that. I know people have no patience anymore.

Is this a hint that Jack will get a starting 11 position by next season? If he really does, then Theo can finally graduate from winger school and play up front. drool.gif

A front line as below would be exciting to watch... hopefully we'll see this in the CC this season:
Jack - Ramsey - Coq - Merida
Theo - Vela

I personally prefer Keown over Adams because Adams was already plagued by injuries and heading towards his twilight years when I started watching football, but that doesn't take away the fact that Adams is the one and only Mr Arsenal.

Nobody is perfect and that includes Arsene. Nevertheless he seems to be the best candidate to lead our club under current circumstances. Sure, we might not be winning trophies for the past few years due to various reasons, but being able to remain competitive and at the same time attract starlets all over the world is by no means an easy feat.

I don't even want to imagine how life at Arsenal would be after Arsene retires, be it by 2011 or maybe later. We can only hope that whoever that succeeds le Boss will continue to good work and most important of all, uphold the philosophy and values of the club.

So, this morning we have Liverpool losing to Villa and Lescott going to ManCity (finally) - and our ex-gunner Silvinho is moving to English Blue (Barca is considered blue to me too)
