Eduardo?
*
I doubt Eduardo at the moment is regarded as a starter by Arsene. Arsene has already shown us who he thinks is his strongest 11 in 2 matches out of a handful of our most important matches, Our first match against Everton, and the Celtic 1st leg IMO

EDIT: Why this time no poll kimhoong sad.gif

Next poll suggestion:

Which part of Gallas' body will score next ?

(A) butt
(B) manhood
© hand
(D) foot
(E) stomach
(F) others

Arshavin has proven his capability on left flank last season, I don't find it hard for him to repeat the feat this season. Just give some time, he will find his form back on the left.

Contradictory, I think AW will do it slowly on playing Eduardo frequently. No doubt he has made impact in his few substitutions, so why not continue in that way? This is similar to Walcott case last season, being an effective subs is a good news smile.gif

In order to keep the consistency, AW will make minimum changes. Diaby will most likely to cover Fabregas' absent (or rest) in Celtic game with others remain the same - although I'm still in doubt on the fullback positions hmm.gif - any insight on this?
*
I'm predicting a very strong squad against Celtic. We will see most of the players sitting out the Portsmouth game return bar a few. 2-0 is by no means a big lead to be honest. Certainly a mountain to climb for Celtic, but not impossible and Arsene knows that. A first goal from Celtic changes everything. Strong squad early on and depending on the situation we will see our key players being subbed out probably around the 65th or 70th minute mark.

still remember how shebby 'defending' his team during the 8games 2 points last season? lolz
*
But Shebby was right in the end. I hate Spurs to the core. But I'm also realistic. With the squad and players they have I thought it was pretty obvious too at that point that they were never in danger of getting relegated or finishing bottom half even with 2 points in 8 games.

QUOTE(ocz @ Aug 24 2009, 11:25 PM)
IMO,spuds wont even touch the top for the rest of this season. biggrin.gif
*
To be honest they do look a more balanced team this year. Like I said I hate them but I'm also realistic. Harry has had a pretty decent transfer summer and they could well finish in either one of the European Cup places this year. Europa League place that is nod.gif They will challenge for a top 4 spot but will fade away sooner or later. Squad too thin. A few injuries here and there and a few fixtures against ourselves, Man Utd and Chelsea will put them in their place tongue.gif .

But the advantage that they have this season is they are free from any European commitment having failed to qualify last year. They could concentrate fully on the BPL.

Btw our Reserves vs Fulham at 2 am if anyone is interested

INTERESTING!
can they go on and win it from here

1-3 now....Poor defending IMO. Reo Coker practically strolled through there...

Back to a bit of Arsenal though our Reserves made the perfect start to the season with a 3-0 win over Fulham.

Sunu, Coquelin and Deacon the scorers

Ah how can you not know Coquelin haha or you forgot ? hmm.gif One of our highest rated youngsters apart from Wilshere, Vela and Ramsey. Plays primarily as a DM. Could e a very very good backup to Song in that DM role in 1 or 2 years time.

He made an appearance in that 6-0 thrashing of Sheffield United last season when Vela scored the hattrick. That is the only first team appearance he has made for us but if you have been following and watching our pre-season games both last season and this season then you couldn't have missed him IMO.

Cesc's hammie scan results are out and thank god there is no signs of strain. Will miss Celtic for sure but could be fit for Man Utd.

QUOTE
Fabregas to miss Wednesday night’s clash

Cesc Fabregas will not face Celtic on Wednesday night.

The Arsenal captain picked up a hamstring strain against Portsmouth on Saturday and was withdrawn at half-time. Fabregas underwent a scan on the injured muscle on Tuesday morning.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference, Arsène Wenger described the scan results as "reassuring" but confirmed he will miss Wednesday night's clash.

"From last Saturday we lost Cesc Fabregas who did not train today" the manager said.

"His scan was quite reassuring as he has no muscular strain but it will take a few days to settle down.

"There's a chance he'll be fit for Old Trafford."

Arsenal revive interest in St Etienne star Blaise Matuidi[SIZE=7]

Is this the defensive player Wenger meant? I still favour our unbeaten captain
*
I will take Matuidi over the current Vieira any second of any minute of everyday of every month of every year. I don't know why people want to bring Vieira back. He is well past it. Physically knackered and his legs have all but gone. Everyone talks about how valuable his experience will be on the pitch. You can have all the experience in the world but if the body no longer has the capacity to follow what the mind says its practically useless. I'm sorry even though I love Vieira to bits the current Vieira will just be a waste of space on our team sheet. If people want to bring him back for the purpose of passing on his experience and being a mentor to the young guns my as well hire him as a coach then and I'm absolutely fine with that.

Besides bringing him back will take up a spot on the squad list and this will deprive the likes of Ramsey and Merida further chances. Also what message does bringing back Vieira send to everyone ? It shows that the team have not moved any forward at all from the Invincibles era. It shows we are still very much living in the past. Moreover, football doesn't always end with a fairy tale. If he does make a return and succeed fair enough. If he flops, well you already know how unforgiving our fans can be when it comes to performances on the field and I'm sure not only me but all Gooners alike will hate to see one of our legends stain his legacy at the club just like that. You can do a million good things in your life and people may still forget them but do one bad thing and people will remember for life.

Seriously I'm sure Arsene knows all of this and it seems pretty obvious to me that all talk about Vieira returning are all just media bullsh*t as usual. I've rarely criticized the Boss in all my 12 seasons as an Arsenal fan and if Arsene does go back for Vieira I'm afraid he has lost the plot and I'll be very, very surprised and disappointed at the same time.

Wenger - I've made no move for Matuidi

By Richard Clarke

Arsène Wenger has NOT made a move for Blaise Matuidi.

Tuesday morning’s media suggested the Arsenal manager had revived his interest in the St Etienne midfielder. But at a press conference a few hours later Wenger could not have been more blunt about the speculation. In fact, despite the approaching transfer deadline, the Frenchman said he was not near to bringing in anyone.

“I deny that,” he said pointedly when asked about Matuidi. “The only thing I can tell you is that at the moment we are not close to signing anybody. We have still one week."

[Tuesday, August 25, 2009]

p/s: Good luck to the Gunners tonight ! flex.gif
*
"We have still one week" hmm.gif

So Arsene says we are not close to signing anyone yet specifically highlighted there is a week left. I smell another signing possibly IMO hmm.gif

If it was Stadium Shah Alam or Bukit Jalil, that would be very true. Theirs is probably due to the congestion in the underground train station.

But still... Its a good performance, they should stay back to applaud the team and give the lads the extra motivation to take up to Old Trafford. I'm sure if they hung around the stadium for awhile, they'd beat the human traffic jam.
*
I think you're being a bit harsh on them. If its a weekend then probably its inexcusable but bear in mind its a weekday/working day and I'm sure most would have rushed to the stadium after working hours. Even more so taking the effort to make it there despite the heavy rain before the match as stated by the commentator. I'm sure most are tired and not to mention wet and hungry as well. Tomorrow is no holiday as well IMO and its understandable that they need rest as well. Its almost 10 pm there already mind you.

If I saw it today, I probably wouldn't be too harsh. But this also happened against Pompey, which was the first league game at home and on a weekend. At on top of that, everyone got free scarves.
*
Well yeah probably you are right about them for the Pompey game but I think for today's match they should be cut off some slack. I think for today the fans actually deserve some credit for even turning up in the first place. It was a workday, horrible weather before that to boot with the match being pretty late as well with the next day being a working day. Also we didn't even need to win this game. And yet we still managed an attendance of 59,962 or something which is almost capacity crowd. Even more so the match ends close to 10 pm, god knows what time they will actually reach home with the jams and all. If I were in their shoes today, tired, hungry, cold, wet and with still work the next day I might have done the same and leave early too.

Anyway about our fans leaving the stadium before a match ends, not only the Pompey match but it has been the case since the Emirates was built till now. Not a pretty sight I must admit but sigh guess we can't do much about it.

Comon la guys don't make excuses for Eduardo. I have never seen a dive as blatant as that for a long time now. When Babel dived and effectively knocked us out of the ECL or when Rooney dived which led to the end of our unbeaten run I don't see anyone doing the same ? If lets say McGeady did the same to us I'm sure all of you will be seething. And fact is that first goal was the turning point of the game. How sure are you people that we were going to win for sure without that goal? Yes we certainly were favourites but by no means guaranteed to win. Anything could have happened. I know its only natural you want to support the player from the club you love but I don't think Eduardo has any case for defense and lets be realistic. The replay says it all and what Eduardo did was clearly wrong. Just accept it. I hope Wenger has a very strong word with him about his future conduct on the pitch.

I do admit though that I agree with you guys that the pundits, media alike have gone overboard and have blown the situation out of proportion which is a shame. When the Gerrards or Rooneys or Drogbas do it game in game out its because they are "winners" and do whatever it takes to "win". All I can say is be prepared for not being awarded a penalty for a long time now that we've been targeted. Especially Eduardo. I remember after Pires dived in the match against Pompey he couldn't even buy a penalty with all the money in the world for a very long time.

I don't condone cheating or whatsoever of course but I'm actually pleased to see us get these kind of decisions and goals go our way for a change. We have always been on the receiving end in the past and its always nice to get that bit of luck once in awhile.

yups.. definitely agreed... two wrongs don't make a right, and i hope arsenal doesn't that take that road.... we should win comprehensively, not in manner which is debatable...

i'm against the witch hunt that is happening now, but it doesn't make the act right in any way.
*
Spot on. People always point at the likes of players from other teams diving and getting away with it. But that doesn't mean we should sink as low as they do. Again I hope Arsene has a word or two not only to Eduardo but to all of the other players in the squad as well.

Yeah the way these people are targeting Eduardo is certainly a shame. If anything the conduct of the media and pundits alike are even more of an embarrassment than the dive itself.

i guess the sad thing for me is that i've always held eduardo in high esteem in terms of footballing ethics. he seemed to be that hardworking player, doesn't make much of a fuss, and was just interested in playing football... so now watching the dive, i feel kinda sad cause i thought that he would be a good example for the younger ones to follow, to prove that honest footballing still counts for something...
*
Sigh yeah which was why my first initial reaction when he took a tumble was "Penalty". Was both surprised and disappointed after viewing the replay. However I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt this time and I don't think he is a cheat. I still think he is an honest and a nice person. Back in the day Pires was a pretty honest chap apart from that Pompey incident and to be fair to Super Bobby he never repeated it again in an Arsenal shirt after that. So yeah, just hope he doesn't do it again.

That we will have to wait and see if UEFA decides to take action. Technically they could hand him a ban for bringing the game into disrepute if they wanted to I guess.

oh shut up already about the dive. lots of players dive.. heck even maradona used his hand to score the winning goal in World Cup. Nobody calling to banned him for life? fark la.. why the double standard?

Anyway, vermaelen was caught offside..  i LOL. hehehe

I'm quite worry about Sagna. Last nite, he got exposed a couple of times and that Donati goal was from his side. SAF will take note of that and use Evra/Rooney combo to attack on that side. it'll be a long hard day for Song and Sagna.
*
Harsh to blame the goal on Sagna. Yes the goal came from his side but if you noticed our defense had a pretty nice line apart from Gallas who was caught asleep and did not notice all his teammates had stepped up. Gallas should have stepped up and Donati would have been definitely offside. If anything it was Gallas who was at fault IMO. Pause when Loovens or whoever it was begins to lob the ball and you can clearly see it was poor positioning from Gallas. The slow mo replay clearly shows it was Gallas who played Donati onside as well a bit later into the video.

Then again I'll let Gallas off this one as he really looked knackered and tired towards the end. I guess its just a bit of fatigue creeping in at the end. Hope he will recover fully and be fresh by Saturday.

Video evidence:
