QUOTE(blurjoey @ Aug 28 2009, 07:42 PM) Hamsters can dig and bite the plastic tank till there is a hole. Seen before with a friend's syrian. Holy cow! I really got to watch out for Min's digging habits then! The recycled paper bedding is Breeder Celect. Too bad I don't have the machine to clean off the ink and turn them into pallets on my own. Would have saved a ton of cash because my dad buys 3 papers every day

QUOTE(yana_adell @ Aug 29 2009, 11:43 AM) Guys, is it normal the new gave birth mama pee Too Much??? 1 day edi sweat larh the Pee place, the toilet sand become wet & sticky coz too much pee on it. I seen my gal drink much water, maybe becoz she's need to breastfeed babies, but cant stand to clean the pee place evry single day.. Any recommended?? if i'm, not mistaken i remember reading in another forum years ago that when a hamster drinks too much of water it could be that he/she is having diabetes(or wet-tail). either one. i'm not sure. i could be wrong.

hi a few days ago my hamster's right eye became red and sore. when it did not recover the next day, i took him to the vet(yesterday) and the vet said it is an eye infection plus he has skin problem. the vet prescribed antibiotics, eye drop and a spray for his skin. on the same night i noticed a dark black spot on his right ear and he scratches that ear often too. could it be ear mites or could it be linked to his eye? plus a black spot appeared on his back too.
other than that he looks fine. he's about 2+ yrs old already.

I seen my gal drink much water, maybe becoz she's need to breastfeed babies, but cant stand to clean the pee place evry single day.. Any recommended?? From my past experiences, yes mama hamsters do drink super alot of water due to breastfeeding babies. Moreover, they need alot of nutrient foods to gain back more energy. Regarding the pee issue, I suggest u just leave it as it is and minimal the disturbance to the mama and the babies. Just move the cage to other places will do. The mama hamster will handle the other problems inside the cage herself. So basically just need to provide sufficient food and water to her for the 1st 2 weeks. The mama hamster is very protective within this period. I usually give her more space and privacy during this period of time. Hope that helps.

hi ppl, i've bought this new WW, 1st time keeping a dwarf after many syrians n while i did anticipate the differences, i didnt expect this naughty fella to be so damn aggressive... there are hardly any signs of fear or stress but everytime i put my hands in the cage it seriously tries to attack me... any ideas on how to deal with this?

hmmm.. so how exactly should i deal with him these 2 weeks? I actually can already handfeed him, he's quite an eater for a small fella, it's just that without food, even when my hand doesn't smell of anything, he will just bite me, sometimes running across the cage to bite me when he sees my hand in the cage... should i still handfeed him or leave him completely untouched for now? i never had this problem with syrians...
