I duno why my hamster both of them are fighting.. They both are call Mickey & Mouse.. Mickey is brown and Mouse is white..They both are Winter White hamsters and use to stay in the same cage.. But now Mouse look vry scared and keep on squeaking whenever i put Mickey together.. They keep fighting and bite each other.. I duno is this the reason? sad.gif

B4 christmas, i was working.. so i cant accompany my gf den i suggest to borrow 1 of my hamster to her for 2days.. Is Mickey.. B4 i pass it to her, i changed new bedding and put lots of water and foods for him these 2days..

My gf den change the bedding again using hers Living Worlds Pine Wood shaving bedding (im using Chipsi Classic).. when she was having it for 2days cause she say vry smelly.. I guess nothing wrong rite?

I observed Mouse this past 2days, he seem vry lonely and nvr moves much.. I guess he misses Mickey..

So yesterday i went back to take Mickey from my gf, den i put together again and they started fighting.. Mickey keep on chasing Mouse and Mouse keep on squeak.. I try changing the bedding and put them together back, end up still the same.. What happen to them?  ohmy.gif

Feel so sad right now.. They last time use to be best friends, but now keep fighting with one another.. Anyone can help me with this?  sad.gif

If they are fighting it simply mean they cannot get along
In fact aside from roborovski, other hamster species should never be put together imo
Some ppl have luck housing winter white together but that does not happen to everyone's

Aside from that, living world PINE bedding is very bad for ur hamster, do read 1st page, it's stated there
Use either Chipsi Classic only or best, breeder celect (Recycled paper)
Plus, saying that a hamster is lonely is pure nonsense, winter white hamster are not social species which mean they enjoy being solitary much more than being with other hamster
The fact that they are fighting is the best evidence
I would suggest u stop attempting to put them together and accept the fact that they cant live together

Also, they used2 stay together last time i assume that's because they are still young at that time and their territorial instinct are not fully developed yet

My 2cent

this happens to my hamsters. there's a posibility that your hamsters forgot the smell of each other. and Mouse thinks Mickey is a stranger hamster and reacts differently. it could be because of the different pine smell in the cage that Mickey was from. i suggest you keep them apart for awhile. and reintroduce them in a neutral area. for example in a bath tub, or small bin container. rubbing a bit of pet powder that is safe for hamster or kittens could help the process of reintroduction, vanila extract is an alternative to use beside pet powder. if they smell the same they won't think each other is a threat and begin to tolerate each other like before.

just my humble opinion, hope this help. if not, it's better to just keep them separately for their own safety. sweat.gif

that usually happen because u have separated them and they dint recognize each other as friends again. i experience this before, especially female hamsters. my gf only separate them for two days n they start to bite each other n now i keep one and i give Milo to u. haha. coz dont wana buy more cage to keep them. i guess maybe female dont have strong smell to identify themselves. tongue.gif

u can buy a cage to separate them or sell to others. =="

hows the Milo? male n female winter white hamsters can get along easy and mate damn fast 1. becareful.

cheers

Yeah.. Now im doing the reintroduction process.. separate them already, but i feel so sad cuz they are so happy together at 1st, and now they both keep on fighting.. I try putting them together today for few minutes and they keep on fighting.. I can see Mouse is the one doing the squeaking sound becuz i tink he dont recognize Mickey already, wherelse Mickey is still ok trying to play with Mouse but whenever Mickey goes near to Mouse, he will squeak and frighten Mickey away.. sad.gif

Now i put them in 1 cage and they keep on playing with each other and i nvr see them fight.. They even sleep together sometimes, hopefully they can breed rolleyes.gif

lol! MIA for quite sometime...I'm back smile.gif

Togepy,it's best for you to go see the sand directly. It's difficult to judge wheter it's coarse or dusty.
Do not buy it if it's dust-like.

Hi, long time never come to the hamster thread. biggrin.gif

That chinchilla sand bath looks more like dust bath. Judge for yourself and see if it's grainy or powdery. If it's very fine powder, then it's dust bath. If it's grainy then it's sand bath.

Winter White hams can be solitary. Once they start fighting it's best to separate them. If changing their scent doesnt work then there isn't much that can be done. Vanilla extract, or that scent pet bath powder by Kool Bunny may be worth a try.

I went to Pet Safari and was quite shocked and upset. There are a bunch of ww and campbell hybrids there. Winter white look-a-likes but with ruby red eyes. Some look sapphire pudding and sapphire but with ruby red eyes. The body and head looks to much like wws. Hybrids have officially entered the market. sad.gif

Well, not all pet shop will care about these issues, all I know is that Petshack comes highly recommended.

By the way, looking for a pet Syrian, if any of you guys selling, or notice anything, please PM me, I will also be looking in PET STORE section, hopefully can find seller like Lala.

you put both syrian and dwarf together?!!
you must separate them both immediately. Two different breeds must not be kept together.
Remove them asap.

Added on January 4, 2010, 8:58 pmplus the wheel is way too small and the bedding ins not appropriate. Syrian dont do well with tubes. Remove them if possible.

Eventually they will fight, if you are lucky, they fight when you are there, if your not, then by the time you notice one (possibly both) are dead!
I suggest you take them apart, unless you enjoy seeing them fight to death.
I too have Winter White, and plan to get one Syrian now, but definitely cannot be housed togather, and Syrian is best kept in a 2ft tank. But first thing first, seperate them ASAP ya.
BTW, welcome to hamsterland
