Or when the game have online components, like leaderboards. Example, Burnout and Wipeout, both on these games pull data from leaderboards hence background downloads will be paused.

Oneof my PS3 has this funny problem. When I play movies no sound, when I fast forward 1.5 times got sound. I'm using optical out & LCPM as setting. When I point the arrow left/right got sound.

Try using bitstream rather than lpcm.

You're confusing your ownself.
Female plug - Related to all jacks with a hole for your to input a male connector.
Male plug - Opposite of the female, a connector which is used to connect to a female jack.

If you think of it as "sex" for electronics, you'll understand it immediately.

Y-splitter is basically a converter for 2 RCA audio to be connected and then converted as a 3.5mm connector. Used for connecting to speakers which has AUX input or soundcards/on-board motherboard sound as a Line-In connection.

it is called RCA composite or in laymen term, composite cable or just red/white

some speakers have male 3.5mm jack, and some only have 3.5mm port and some even accepts RCA directly. it depends on your setup really. have a look at your speaker first and then think of the necessary converter/adapter.
