Is it jerky only when DTS downmix activated?

If disable the subtitles, same problem or not?

Also did you 1st format your internal HD with AC Ryan setup before copying movies to the HD? It's supposed to create some hidden partitions for buffering to improve playback.

Not exactly premium. That title goes to Dvico TViX smile.gif. Not the underperform part but the price.

haha...another player bites the dust...Xtreamer and ACRyan are a bit jerky in graphic intense scenes...so far WDTVLive seems the only one without complains...

I'm gonna try out the ACRyan at a friends place this weekend and see whether it can beat my portable sarotech 260x or not...haha..

there is only so much firmware update can do.. biggrin.gif it should play all the most important playback functions out of the box from day 1, firmware update should be minor improvements on GUI etc only....

for example: no way a WDTV could be converted to WDTV2 functions via firmware update.. biggrin.gif

My short review of ACRyan PlayON HD (POHD), and comparison with new released WDTV Live.

My setup:

Using stock Realtek UI (as seen in Asus Oplay!), this player can play every movie throw into it. Since im only have 5.1 speaker setup, my only concerned audio output format is Dolby Digital and DTS, so Dolby TrueHD and DTS HD is not really my requirement (pls correct me if i'm wrong), and I also didn't have any BD backup or rip in my collection. and since my TV only support up to 720p (1080i doesn't really count), so all my video collection is only up to 720p resolution (save some space!) biggrin.gif

Thanks for the comparo...nothing against ACRyan cause it is my preferred choice (cause it has coaxials output).
If i go WDTV route, I need to get an amp, or converter from Toslink to coaxial that would cost half of the player itself.

In your review you mention only 720p stuff..

I collection are mostly made of 1080p stuff (nope, not bragging) and nowadays, encoders are releasing versions that are 12Gb~18Gb file and bit rates of above 13.9 ~ 18Mbps.....especially, Wiki releases..
(I rarely watch SD material anymore...unless its my kids barbie collection)

I hope it can play through it smoothly...

Sometimes, with other players, the jerky, shuttering and pixellation is so bad...the player just hangs or crash.

Anyway, I'm going to my friend place to check out the ACRyan..will be bringing a long a few hard to play stuff as well.

Hope its OK...cos' this player is my only option to get. icon_rolleyes.gif

Not Mr Perfect, but frustration.

What why I'm gonna check the ACRyan this weekend.
