sifu-SSS

MBW OR MBP ?

definitely would be getting the 13.3-inch
the HDD should'nt be a matter whether is 160/250G because can get an external one which is much cheaper right?
Processor: 2.26GHz or 2.53GHz?
RAM: 2Gb or 4Gb ?

Questions:

the following are not provided in the mac book white right?
(can you briefly explain the use of it and how to overcome this matter in MBW)
FireWire 800 port
SD card slot

is the cracking occur in this MBW?
and any problems with this MBW?

Usage:
mainly is to surf net

music production(not the too serious type yet and wont be too regular now because kinda busy with other commitments)
Logic Studio cost RM1700+  blink.gif  < may use the cheaper one 1st in Mac then upgrade.. but miracle can happen
to get use with the mac world, perhaps gettin another better specs in 1 or 2 years time

microsoft office n adobe reader < need this 2 very much..is this come together in the package or need to buy it separately n any alternative ?
probably gonna install the Window OS < how much space this will eat up?

watching ''  VIDEOS  ''  < heard not much affected by viruses?

Nos:
definitely wont use for games, would use desktop instead
Purchase:
should be from an authorised reseller(premium) because the services they provide
So much thanks for any reply  biggrin.gif

firwire 800 - no way to overcome. u'll juz have to settle with USB
SD slot - can use card reader, no problem. it's just nice not to have to bring extra stuff with the MBP

for music production, yep u can use GarageBand 1st, which comes free with ur Mac. no idea how to rate it since i dont do any music production hehe...

u might not need adobe reader, because OSX have native support for PDF files. the Preview app can open pdf files..n 4 me feels like much faster than adobe reader anyway. but then adobe reader is free so nevermind hehe. if u're talking about adobe acrobat pro then have to buy la. for office 2008, there was this offer that u can get it for rm399 but im not sure if it's still valid or not. for alternatives u can get the cheaper iWork (Keynote rockssss) or go free with OpenOffice or google docs tongue.gif but if u're particular about format, equations, etc...the best way is to use office 2007 in windows.

installing windows natively in bootcamp...maybe 15gb is good enough if u dont plan to install a lot of stuff in it. if performance isnt that important, consider using windows as a virtual machine (u need to get either Parallels Desktop or VMware Fusion). for VM i'd recommend 4gb or RAM

sometimes even premium resellers are not that good

edit: damnit i got a "Please reduce the number of emoticons you've added to the message" replying this haha. never know got limit

biggrin.gif was asked to reduce the smilies as well

by the way, what do you mean by virtual machine? and whats the WMware Fusion? <is it a software to run both OS side by side?
*
haha. u really spam emoticons ehh?

yeah run both OS side by side...so even u use windows, u can still access OSX apps n such. i only use for Office 2007

Should opt for CrossOver. Its an optimized version of WINE, no need for loading Windows in a Virtual Box.

last time i installed crossover, something bad happened...i dont remember what, but i've stayed away from it since tongue.gif

\MB white comes with FireWire 400 port?

http://lowendmac.com/musings/09mm/09-macbo...e-equation.html

where is it? couldn't see it
*
http://www.apple.com/macbook/specs.html

Nope. sometimes ppl make mistake...for specs juz follow official site. i think that website is confused with the older macbook white... the picture is of the original macbook! tongue.gif probably they juz google image seach "macbook white" then saw the firewire 400 port on the older model

btw it makes no sense to release a device that has FW400 now.. since we have FW800 already

Sorry bro no ill intention by my statement. What I meant was that I always g=fancy the alu body of the MBP, but not impressed by the price so the MBW is a good alternative, but my heart says MBP, so I just close my eyes and take the plunge and get the MBP. Sweet. If money fall from the sky I'll buy a MBW for my missus as well since we are already using iphones and a host of other apple products.
*
why cant she have a MBP as well? tongue.gif

sorry core i3/i5/i7 then

i think i5 520M and 540M are most probably run into new macbook pro
i think will see one i7 in 17 or in customize.

based on the price of processor, apple always use the same price range processor to replace the old one
*
maybe MBP will get a 'rebranded' core 2 as the core i3 tongue.gif

QUOTE
Intel may rebadge existing Wolfdale, Yorkfield, and Penryn Mobile chips into Core i3
As bizarre as it seems, it looks like existing Core 2 Duo and Core 2 Quad processors are bound for a new name tag, under Core i3. The processors will form Intel's value offerings, since they compare to the lower-end derivatives of the Nehalem architecture. At this point in time, we don't know if (and don't expect) higher-end Wolfdale and Yorkfield models to make it to this series, but rather the lower-end Core 2 Duo E7000, E8000, Core 2 Quad Q8000, Q9x00, etc. to do so, as they make the most market sense with Nehalem and Westmere derivatives higher up the order. The processors will continue to be driven by existing chipsets by Intel, which include members of Intel 3-series and 4-series.

im eager to see how the integrated GPU on core i5 compares to the nvidia 9400M.

good thing, i suppose.

anyway an apple reseller salesperson told me that the new apple remote operates using bluetooth not IR, and is not compatible with MBP

tried it at home with a MBP (i think bluetooth was turned off) and it still works +_+

there is a remote control by bluetooth? tat means it suit for the new macbook white unibody? btw,y u guys need remote actually...
*
it works with IR. the bluetooth thing was a misinformation.

yeap i used my remote (it came free with my previous mac hehe!) for presentations before. it's much better than having a groupmate control my slides...so easy to mess up tongue.gif

QUOTE(uncontrolled @ Jan 5 2010, 08:30 PM)
oh really?! i think i should get one..i start my college next week.
BTW, is it suit MB white ?(new version -late 09)
*
the new MB white doesnt have an IR port so u cant use the remote. u stil can control slides using a bluetooth phone though, but doesnt look good n quite laggy sometimes (based on my SE phone)

too bad now with this miniDP port i juz make my presentations in powerpoint sad.gif. adapter to expensive and will only use like less than five times a year..not worth it

Are there any difference between the newest 13" macbook unibody and the newest 13" macbook pro in screen quality and display quality ? I see some review states that the 13" macbook has slight lower brightness compare to macbook pro , is it true ?
*
errr from my knowledge its the same screen. maybe because the MBP got black frame, making the screen look brighter? tongue.gif

I was thinking of buying a 13" macbook from apple online store , is it worth the price to select upgrade to 4gb ram or purchase later from apple stores ?
*
for me it's worth it. u can buy the macbook with 2x1gb, then u can shop for 2x2gb urself, shud be around rm350-400 or so. then install the new 2x2gb, n u can keep the stock RAMs

but then the stock RAMs wont be much use though. adding RM359 for 4gb RAMs which confirm work, n under apple warranty, seems like a good offer to me

QUOTE(MattJ @ Jan 9 2010, 10:42 AM)
Dear All,
Sorry for asking some noobie questions
1) How do I move my itunes library (MP3) from my HP laptop to my MBP. Can I Copy and paste using an external hardisk or there is a better way?
2) Also for my other important apps such as casio photo app, blackberry desktop, and what not, do I need to setup again using their original CDs?
Thanks for the help
*
1) copy all ur mp3 files onto an external HDD. plug into the mac, open itunes, then got to File > Import. If u go to preferences, at the Advanced tab, u can tick Keep iTunes Media folder organized and copy files to itunes media folder when adding to library. this two will copy and organize ur mp3s according to artist and album folders.

2) depends on when u got ur blackberry, the OSX version of blackberry app is quite new. as for all softwares, its much better for u to download so u get the latest version. same goes to the casio app, but im not sure if there's an OSX version of it. try looking up casio's website smile.gif

no need to sorry2. this is the place to share hehe

whats the different between iwork and iwork family package? < share up to 4 users?so the cost would be cheaper?

notice that the price of softwares bundle in together with a mac is cheaper than buying single individual software... or did i see wrongly?

biggrin.gif
*
no different. normal iwork can be legally used by one person only. the family package up to 5 person.

everything bundle of course cheaper than individual mah. even mcd mcvalue meal also cheaper than order ala carte ;p
