Regulus: Variety is the key here. Managing to chat while jogging or running isn't a bad thing. Train base on different heart rate levels and you will see the benefit as time passes. Different zones produces different results. Therefore, it doesn't mean that you aren't working hard enough if you are sitll able to chat. Remember to train smart, not hard.

If you are changing the way you run, try to achieve mid/forefoot running gait, This is the most efficient running gait which results in less pounding and injury to the heel and more energy for the run. With this the Newton shoes will be ideal in this case.

That's how im trying to achieve at the moment. I'm actually looking at Newton shoes to replace my current shoes but not really sure which 1 is suited for me. M also tempted to try barefoot running just for a short distance maybe between 3-5k for a start.

if u r doing transition fr heel strike to forefoot running then the Sir Isaac will be ideal. Once you have convert yourself to be a forefoot runner, then go for the Newton Classic.

PM me if interested in Newton as I am selling it. The Sir Isaac is having a promo till end of Feb selling at RM380. Its getting a very good response from the runners and its a good deal for a highly technical shoe.

I went for a run yesterday, just to see how my injury's recovering & it got worse !! I'm putting ice on it like 3-4 times a day, hopefully I can recover by Saturday. Saturday morning is going to be my last chance la... if still hurts, then I guess I'ma have to pass on this one. Maybe I shud just skip this one & give myself more time to recover, rather than risk further injury to myself. Haih..... been looking forward to this Saturday... haih..... sad.gif sad.gif

never put yourself into a higher risk of worsening your injury. sometimes we runners got to know when to rest and when to run. the problem is a lot of runners dont hence their injury become worst and therefore shorten their running lifespan.

I know which part's injured alright... I just dunno what caused it.. I mean.. I didn't do anything out of the ordinary for the past 4 weeks... It's not muscle cramp.. definitely not.

I started when I was doing intervals last week. I did 5 x 800m & during the last rep I began to feel a slight pull on my left calf, the outer part. Luckily it was during my last rep, & during the warm down I just jog slowly so I didn't really felt it. I didn't put my calf sleeve on during the workout.

Then on Sunday, I wanted to do one last long run before the race this week, but I haven't even completed my 1st km when I felt the injury coming back & this time it got worse, I mean, more painful. So I walked back to my starting point & just went home. So, for 2 days I kept putting ice on it, RICE. Then yesterday I just wanted to see how it felt. It was still there.

Between the interval (Tuesday) & Sunday last week, I did a full body workout at the gym, with light weights & no lower body specific workout. I'm guessing that the gym session & the fact that I didn't use my calf sleeve proly contributed to the injury.

I know I shud be tapering with 2 weeks to go... but then I didn't run much for the 2 weeks prior to the injury, was busy with moving house. Haih.... I dun wanna rush, dun want the injury to get worse... but very frustrating if I can't run this Saturday.... sad.gif

I strongly believe this is what I have now...

From Cool Running.com

Pain in the Mid-Calf
(Soleus muscle pain)

Description:
Dull aching pain in the middle of your calf. If the pain is low and near the heel, you may have Achilles tendinitis instead.

Likely causes:
The soleus muscle, which runs between the two heads of the big calf muscle, often takes more of a beating than the larger muscle because it acts first when you use your calf muscles. This injury is an overuse injury, plain and simple, and one that may have been aggravated by too much hill work.

Remedy:
To help the pain, ice the area immediately after running. You can use either a store-bought cold pack or a frozen wet towel. Ice for 10 or 15 minutes. To reduce inflammation, take an aspirin or ibuprofen at mealtime.

Stretching is the main prescription here. Do wall pushups religiously -- several times a day and especially before and after running.

Also, try putting some heel lifts in your regular shoes as well as your running shoes. You can find these in the footcare section of your local drug store or simply use makeup sponges.

Back off on your mileage for a few days, and don't try to run through the pain. Give your legs a little time to mend.
