@abubin, Yes the iData plan is over and above your current existing VP plan. Better reconsider before U go pick up the i3GS because once U have signed on the plan U won't b able to change it.

Greetings all. I was hoping that I could get some advice from some of the folks here. I'm currently using a supplementary line from Maxis with a RM30/month commitment and I just pre-ordered an iPhone 3G S 16gb from Maxis.
Now my current options are:
a) Purchasing it outright via the Hotlink prepaid package b) Sticking with my current supplementary line and adding on an iData 50 plan c) Swapping from a supplementary line to a main line and subscribing to the iValue Plus 100 plan.
Option A would not offer me any savings on the phone and I have the added hassle of swapping sim cards each time I want to pop online without using WiFi.
Option B could be a little costly as the cost for my supplementary line and the iData 50 plan would exceed that of the iValue Plus 100. RM30 (fixed commitment for the supp. line) + RM50 (iData fee) + RM30-RM40 (phone usage per month)
Option C would mean that I would have to terminate the supp line and remain as a main line after the contract is up.
Now, I'm not very sure if there is a huge difference in cost between having a supp. line and a main line. My phone usage each month so far is sitting at around RM30-RM40 for the last couple of years. Would appreciate if I could get some advice as to which would be more cost-friendly and if there is any huge difference between a supplementary line and a main line.

Before i go i already check in Maxis website regarding thte price, but when i ask the promoter the price he told me is RM2650. So i told him i saw in website is RM2490 and he told me that price (RM2490) is for foreigner only. i just want to know is this truth? or is the shop want to earn more. can i complaint the shop since it is Maxis MEP

@meeprat, We can't give U the absolute answer here but can guide U by proving more information. If U go with (b) U will still be able to maintain your supp line and make free calls + SMS to it. For © it will be an independent plan so U won't get to enjoy the benefits of the Family Plus package. You're absolutely right about having to change SIMs so I wouldn't recommend U go with an option that will bring you hassle of changing SIMs hence your best bet right now is IMHO either (A) or (B) [that's assuming U do make use of the Family Plus package] Also the iValue plans do not come with SMS hence SMS charges are separate - which really makes the iValue plans not so worth it. @Suk, No one can answer that question - if U have intentions to get the i3GS then go ahead with the prebooking otherwise just wait a week or so for the kiasu ones to collect their phones and then walk into Maxis to get the i3GS

Ta for your info. I wasn't looking for someone to give me the answers here, but just hoping that I could get another perspective on my predicament. I had noticed that the iValue plans do not include SMSes in their plans and I was planning on getting the Value SMS extra for an added RM8/month. Oh the trials and tribulations of being a Mac addict! I'm leaning towards option C at the moment and then swapping back to a cheapish Value Plus plan once the 12 month contract is up. Looks like I've got more to ponder on. Thanks for clarifying certain doubts I had!

Does the RM50 paid for the iData Plans can be used for call charges? That means if I am using value plus plan 50, all together I will have RM100 for call charges or else really not worth paying that RM50 extra.

I guess at the end of the day, one must know an estimation of how much he / she use both for calls, sms and data. a rough calculation at my end does show that the Value Plus 50 + iData 50 will save me maybe RM100 or RM200 (tops) as compared to the iValue1 + RM8 (SMS) + RM20 (Other Operators) on a 12 month Contract
32Gb iPhone 3G S.
Oh well, looks like I'm gonna be changing plans now..
Edit: Got a (silly) question, say if I'm taking the Value Plus 50.. the RM50 credit would include both calls & sms, but what say I pay the RM8 for 500 SMS (Maxis-to-Maxis), is Maxis' system smart enough to allocate the number of SMS being sent out (to Maxis) to the RM8 that I paid so that I can utilise the RM50 credit more for calls?

Go to Authorized Dealer or Maxis Centre to buy, these small booth stores are not that reliable in sales and after sales.

@abubin, Of course the RM50 under iData is meant as subscription for data charges; U can't combine with your VP50 and make RM100 worth of calls without using data charges. U will still need to pay the RM50 for the data charges whether U use it or not.
@sysh, Should U sign up on the RM8 for 500 SMS I believe Maxis will not charge you for the first 500 SMS sent out to Maxis calls; they will rebate it back to you and only charge u the remainder + to non Maxis numbers. It should work for whichever plan you're signed on to.
@Iroci, I think perhaps what the MEP meant is that they can't accept walk-in buyers for now until those who's pre-booked have received their units.
@filexcat, RM2650 is NOT the right price. The shop's probably trying to make additional RM200 from U. File a complain to Maxis - however I've a feeling that shop is probably not an authorised shop.

@filexcat, In that case, my suggestion is for U to make a report to Maxis but before U do that, get them to give U something in B&W to say they've quoted you RM2650 instead of RM2450.

Sorry...I think I need to repeat boring and old question again. When I booked my i3Gs, I selected ivalue 100 plan and paid deposit. After calculated this few days. I found that my current value plan rm50 + idata plan rm30 + RM 8 for 500 sms are more suitable for me. Can I change the plan when I go to collect my i3Gs?

Since u've paid the deposit, i think u can still change the plan when u're collecting it.. that was what the Maxis ppl told me.. I did that too.. my initial plan is iValue plan.. then changed it to iData.. when i pay the deposit.. This post has been edited by boringpig: Jul 28 2009, 10:30 PM
