@Carmein,
If you have the cash U might as well sign it up with Maxis; that way you get a rebate off the phone price. This UOB promotion doesn't give you any savings on the iPhone 3GS - in my opinion, not so worth it lah unless U don't have the cash and need to go with 0% interest rate on purchase of the i3GS.

Also, U will need to do an airtime top up of a minimum of RM100 p/month for the next 12 months. Ask urself if you're going to be using it.

If you're going to be purchasing an outright purchase set (via prepaid Hotlink!) u won't need to worry about the RM100 p/month for the next 12 months + you also get 500MB of free data p/month for the next 12 months + U pay the same price for the iPhone 3GS so in my opinion that is a better plan; of course that is provided U have the cash to front for the price of the i3GS.

Hi guys

Yesterday i went to Maxis Center at the Gardens planning to subscribe for the ivalue 100 plan for 24 months to get the 3gs 16gb.

But then they told me that i'm not entitled for 24months contract because my number is 016 instead of 012. When i asked why, they just told me that this policy is directed by "MCMC" and they can't even answer the "why" no matter how many times and who i asked sad.gif . I'm a maxis customer, but not entitled for the plans being advertised for maxis customers.

Now i'm stuck with whether getting the 12 months contract with my current phone number(which i have to scoop and extra rm400 out for the 3gs 16gb) or get a new number to subscribe for the 24 months contract.

Anyone experienced this case before? pls share smile.gif

I am facing a similar situation as you too. I am porting in from Digi to Maxis, but the sales personnel told me that I am only eligible to sign up for the 12 months contract plan. There are some factors you have to consider and it will depends largely on which plan you are planning to take. If you are taking iValue Plan, calls made to other cellular network will be quite expensive. In this case, keeping a second number from other network providers would help you to save, but this savings only apply if you make lots of calls to both Maxis and other networks. If you notice, SMS to other network providers will be charged on top of the RM100 from the iValue Plan.

If you are opting for the more expensive iData plan, it will help you to save more on calls made to other networks, but you'll lose the savings opportunity derived from iValue plan when you purchase the iPhone.

You can wait for the outright purchases or go to some selected MEPs to purchase outright. The problem is there's a long waiting queue as Maxis tries their best to satisfy demand arising from contract customers first. sad.gif

@Icehart & xelx,
Yes.. MNP customers aren't allowed to sign on more than 12 months contract; the only other option is to change ur number and register for a brand new Maxis line.

Call and SMS are charged at flat rates regardless on which network you made calls to. Also, free local calls here cover calls made to maxis and other operators and is on approximation basis. smile.gif

Hi guys i need some help here. I'm planning to get the iphone 3gs 16GB iValue 1 24 months contract. The problem is that i'm currently a Digi user. I just came across you guys mentioning about Maxis not allowing port-in customers to take the 24 months contract. Anyway, the most important thing here is that i want to keep my existing number. Is there anyway i can do it and still get the package? Like maybe switch my line to Value 50 first and then only place the iphone booking immediately after that? Will they allow it?

Also just to reconfirm, the free 100sms is to for Maxis-to-Maxis only? MMS also?

Thanks!

@groggysquirrel,
It's not the same because if you sign up for iValue 1 for a period of 24 months, your i3GS 32GB costs only RM1990 as opposed to paying RM2990 with this UOB promotion. Also, if U don't make much calls, Y go with topping up RM100 p/month? And yes, 500MB should be suffice provided you don't use it to download stuff.

@blstz,
Port-in customers are only allowed to sign on the 12 month contract. Am not sure if it'll work assuming you swap your number to Maxis and then sign on the iPhone - it might or it might not depending on what the legal implications are; Y don't u check it out and let us know smile.gif

The Free Minutes/SMS/MMS are free to any local numbers within MY; not just limited to the Maxis network.

I've been using Value 50 plan with my 016 number for around a year. But they told me its still a port-in number, cannot sign 24 months. Not to mention that i've been sticking with maxis for 7 years =/

@xelx,
If it's still considered a port-in number then i guess u just can't. It doesn't matter how long u've previously used Maxis. AFAIK my dad's been on Maxis ever since it came into the market and yet we still don't get preferential rates.

Hi,

I've contacted Maxis and they have told me that as long the number is not originally a Maxis number, then I cant sign up for the 24 month contract. Even if i convert to Value 50 plan first then order my iphone, also cannot. And no matter how long ago you have converted a digi/celcom number to Maxis also cannot. Only way is to get a new number which is really troublesome because all my contacts and official matters are registered with my current number. Headache

Anyway, if i have two options, first being subscribing to the Ivalue 1 plan and second to a Value 50 + iData2 (both cost RM100), the second option would be more worth it rite? Because iValue 1's free sms only covers Maxis to Maxis while Value 50 includes sms to all networks.

@blstz,
The other option is for you to get the i3GS on a prepaid basis.

Quite in the contrary. I was original a Maxis user before porting to Digi. Now I plan to shift back to Maxis but was told that I am not eligible to sign up for the 24 months contract plan too. Anyway, where did you ask about this and did you have the promoter's reference as in name or number? I figured it would be good to give him or her a call to enquire more about this. smile.gif

@Icehart,
MNP customers can't sign up 24 months plan; just 12 months. That is stipulated by law as per the T&C.

@crazyivan,
It's been put on hold due to the 'worldwide shortage'.

Yeah but it would be nice to get the price rebate blush.gif for the iPhone by signing up for a postpaid plan and my monthly usage is typically around RM70+. Planning to get Value plus 50 and iData 2 plan. I think it's more worth it because then, my sms to other networks are included in the value plus 50. The price difference for the iPhone 3GS with iValue 1 and iData 2 is only by RM100. I'll definitely save more on sms charges cause my most of my friends are either on Digi or Celcom.

I gave Maxis customer service a called this morning. She was sure that my number had to be an original 012 Maxis number (never ported) in order for me to get the 24 month contract (for those who want to retain their existing phone number). But when i asked about changing over my Digi number to a Maxis plan and then placing an 24 month contract iphone order, she told me "actually this is the first time i've came across this question sir" biggrin.gif But she was kind enough to put me on hold for a while before telling me that i cant do that also. Sorry i did not get her name or number. unsure.gif

So for those port-in customers, if u wanna retain ur number from other service providers, only choice is to get the 12 month contract. sweat.gif
