okay. I just got my 3Gs last week so still a noob. Forgive me if I asked stupid question.
2 days back, I charged my Iphone to 100% and go to sleep at 1.30am, woke up at 8.20 realize battery drop 20%, left 80%. The next day I charge it to 100% at night, wake up found out left 96%, sweet huh. The next day I try again, 100% full charged overnight, next day wake up left 80%.
My question here is, how does set up the phone as new phone affect the battery usage? Done some reading online, some claims JB will drain battery faster especially Winterboard. I am sure that I didnt turn on wifi, bluetooth, push notification, and other stuff cz I double check using SBsettings. The only thing I enable is 3G cz i dun like to use back GSM while I am using Iphone "3G" just my own preference for this.

Anybody can advice? Thanks

But it won't trigger the location service unless I open an app that requires it right? So if I leave it on won't have impact of battery life right?

I'm just worried of programs that has push notification and require location service. That would automatically trigger GPS.

3g is one of the main culprits in battery draining. Based on your story i'm quite sure it's 3g tat caused 20% battery decline, and it could have been worse. i'm not sure y but if you nvr use the internet, it's wise u turn it off and use Edge instead. usually with everything off and edge on, my battery will only decrease 3-5% overnite.

ohya, it's advisable to also completely drain your battery once a month. this comes from the iphone manual i read some where in this forum before.

Are you sure?
i have a 3GS for a week now, firmware 3.1 non-JB and all my setting are off (push, fetch, wifi,bt and etc), and my Aussie Telco only have 3G reception but will roam to non-3G telco automatically if no 3G reception.
100% charged at night, 8 hours standby 98% left in the morning.
You might want to put it in airplane mode when you sleep to isolate and investigate your problem.
Btw GPS really drain the battery, i went for a 20 mins walk to try out the GPS function to my supermarket, 8% gone. Really hardcore battery eater GPS+3G+Screen On+Compass orientation.

It's also stated in Iphone manual tat 3g is one of the causes, obviously i din make it up.
i experienced b4 switching on my 3g overnite (or rather forgot to switch it off) with everything else off and still it drained about 15% off.
i notice this problem is particularly obvious (after reading some other posts) when the phone is used in certain countries like msia. dun ask me y. not sure it's hardware or software problem.
this is still a very vague area to discuss actually.

even safari browsing via 3G or Wifi is like pain in the @ $ $.... sweat.gif

I wonder how to play 3D games in Iphone when it suck battery badly... The only way is attach mophie juice pack (which is great cause it solve the speaker blocked by hands) or charging it via iphone dock cable.

That's odd. Anyway why don't you disable 3G network when you're sleeping or put in on airplane mode, see the differences vs being on 3G.
Seriously more than 5% gone in standby mode in 3G network is crazy.

What can you do, iphone 3GS battery dictates what you can do with the device, Apple should seriously invest in battery technology since they're sitting on almost 30 billion cash reserve.
Usually what i do is that i don't really hardcore play games during the day since i'm at uni, usually occasionally surf the net via wifi or 3G(network's good near my campus >200KB/s download speed), but i try to keep at least >20% battery life before i'm back home to recharge my battery because first it's a phone, and i need that phone for communication purposes.
Play games hardcore when i hook it up to power supply in the evening, i just wish that the usb cable is longer.

Did u turn off other things? Try install SB Settings perhaps? I only use enable 3G these days, today is my 2nd day and now got 30+% left. With some occasionally surfing, games and reading ebook. Those who can read Chinese can go dl an ebook call "The voice of prophecy" for free from itunes. Interesting story hehe. I read 1 chapter everyday during lunch

Now im really confused..
Should i upgrade to 3.1 or not?
For a high end phone, the battery life is really bad sad.gif
I think it cant even last the whole day, and im not a heavy user as well..
Luckily the charging doesnt take long..

I there any difference on the battery life if charge using the wall charger and usb?
The only difference so far i know is that, the phone will give u an electric shock while talking+charging using the wall charger.. biggrin.gif
