It could be an ingrown quill. Try bathing him in some salt water (not too salty) to disinfect it. It's going to hurt but getting an infection on it would hurt a lot more for him. Monitor the wound for a few days. If it doesn't heal up nicely, definitely visit the vet.

the quills banded with wat color? mayb wif a clearer picture on the quills then the face will help....more eyes to identify

Then it must have been some illness that he picked up from the pet store.
My rabbit died exactly 1 week after I got him from the pet shop. T'was heartbreaking.

Most animals kept in pet stores aren't cared for properly & tend to be sick.
Since you got this new hedgie from the pet store, I would definitely suggest keeping an eye on him & his behavior for the next few days.
You're in Penang (right?), so I don't know if there's any vets there that can do a check-up on a hedgehog.

I have problems accessing Hedgehog Central all the time.
I frequent Chins & Hedgies and Hedgehog World.

Definitely try getting rid of the mite problem using olivur's suggestion first.
I wouldn't recommend using anti-mite sprays on hedgehogs because these sprays are meant for cats & dogs.

stay in butterworth but got it at Bukit Jambul area....i forgot the pet shop name leh....selling price there rm100 per hedgie....

Babies are coming along nicely.
I have one friendly male & female and one very huffy male.
He refuses to uncurl and when he does, he huffs & jumps in my hand.
He's going to be one difficult hog, just like his father.

got mites? jangan guna woodshaving yang petshop bagi tu..
get new woodshaving for rocky..
but before that give him shower dulu..
im using jonson n johnson baby bath.. many here using toothbrush...
but im using shoe brush (like kiwi brush) which more soft and easier since shoe brush got more bulu

errr your plastic water bowl will tumpah later.. hehehe
look like cinnamon or albino with mask.. hidung coklat!

LOL, true. I try to socialise with him more than the other two.
He's a tough nut to crack.

I bought more mealworms today & I just found out why the mealworms that I buy from the pet store is larger than the ones I raise myself.
They feed the mealworms yeast.
I saw tiny brown cylindrical substance when I looked at the bottom & realised it looked exactly like the stuff my mum used to bake cakes.

According to this page, it says that feeding yeast to hedgehogs is alright.
Hmm, I should go buy some yeast.

Hahaha, thanks. He's huffier than Huffy now.
Huffy is finally 'toning it down' with his behaviour a little.
He even stayed curled up, staring at me while I watch TV yesterday.
Usually he just wants to run away.

u should name him HUFFIER it suits him

MItes can literally transform ur hedgehog...
it will make ur durian become longan....
i rescued one before...full of mites n almost botak de...
looks like longan more than durian...
but manage to nurse it back to health, but damn tedious...

wow scary....can only get either the Frontline spray or the ingredients for the bath tomorrow....hope Rocky wait till tomorrow...

Im sorry for ur lost . I feel ur pain . i Bought actually 6 guinea pigs from pet shops , 4 from pet wonderland and 2 from petaling street petshop.

3 of the ones i bought in midvalley had upper respiratory disease. My favourite one died out of mites , so be careful with mites. They are very very dangerous , killed my guinea pig . 2 more also died out of upper respiratory disease , thats why now i buy pets from breeders.

I was checking on Hibari , under her quills her skin looks as though as its dry , like got dandruff. Any ideas?

usually juz dry skin, apply som baby oil then it will b ok

hi! I just got a s&p hedgie today! She's a curious little one! she was all rolled up and afraid when i put her in her house, a minute later she start exploring and playing the wheel somemore
