Anyone own a hedgehog and travel back and forth to singapore?

I'll be moving to singapore for work alone, and I'm thinking to get a hedgehog as a companion. But, I would be coming back occasionally for holiday and taking along the hedgehog over the custom would become smuggling unless it goes through quarantine.

So how do you deal with it?

Added on August 14, 2011, 12:45 amI saw my hedge scratching last night so I gave her bath today with shampoo. But she is still scratching, is it got mite? I tried to check for mite but I don't think i found any.. Btw, is the back of thebskin suppose to be smooth and pink? Cuz mine look bumpy and dirty..

Anyway for potty training, for poop I know place the poop in the litter box to show her where to poo, but how bout pee?lol

I feel my hedgie is lonely/bored. she was running on the wheel then she got bored of it I guess, so she stop and walk around sniff her water bowl, towel, tunnel, toilet roll, and back to her wheels again, like looking for something else to play like that.. sad.gif

If your hedgehog is quilling at the moment (do you find fallen quills in the cage with a ball at the end of the quill?), then that will explain the constant scratching & bumpy skin (those are quills trying to break through).

I don't potty-train my hedgies so I wouldn't know, sorry.

And hedgehog do that all the time. Run run run, freeze, sniff, run, jump off, sniff somemore. xD
It's not because they're bored, it's just how they are.
If you want to provide more 'mental stimulation' for your hedgie, you can bring it out from the cage & let it explore your living room/some hedgie-proof place.
If your hedgie runs under the cupboard, make sure you are able to retrieve it. wink.gif
i don't see any quills thou..
cannot let it out, cuz i have a dog at home, later my dog thought its a moving kiwi.. laugh.gif
i added a stuffed toy and a toy car for her, see she what she would do with it.. laugh.gif

My girl's like yours too, will spike up when my fingers are near her.. then I have to force my fingers through the little forest of spikes to reach her belly and pick her up. Thanks for the warm welcome ^^
She's 2 months old according to seller, and a snowflake SNP too smile.gif
Thanks for the heartwarming welcome guys~

Pictures below of Cottie, a snowflake hedgehog..

How long usually do you all take to be friendly with your hedgies? As in she/he doesn't spike when you try to carry her up from her cage?

tried it. basically what happened was

12am - places mix of kibbles, brunoised carrots, capcicum, apples and dried apricot.

2am - kibbles gone, the rest in one corner covered in saliva.
,_,
chicken? she actually scoffed at it and continued to look for snuggling spots when i placed her on my lap and tried to feed her a boiled piece of chicken.
ninja edit*

dont get me wrong though, i still love her to bits. i'm just concerned at her lack of culinary sense of adventure. lol
*
mine doesn't like fruits, she'll just leave it there and gobble only her kibbles. Haven't try vege and insects yet..
