Midsommar - Not as you think what it is.
This is not your traditional sense of horror movie and it's a long slow burn. It's a break-up drama for the first half and all hell breaks loose in the end. For me the best performance being carried out by Florence Pugh. A needy train wreck that irritates the hell out of you who drawn you into her transformation slowly as we get to see the BF is a piece of grade A dirtbag. Will Poulter provide most of the comedy relief by his unbelievable douchebag personality. Like Hereditary, the unifying theme again about grieving that led to a sinister path. Super strange and weird ass gory stuffs did happen. If you dug it, gonna be those movies you rewatch multiple times to catch subtle clues of where the story going. Prefer this over Hereditary on my personal preference.

Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark (2019)

I LOVE THIS MOVIE TO BITS!!

Here is why

1) Guillermo del Toro wrote some of the screenplay (YEAH!!!)

2) Director, André Øvredal did a really good job.

3) In the first 5 minutes, most of the main characters were introduced in one shot. Masterful

4) With a budget of USD 25,000,000 (pittance, by Hollywood standard) they managed to do alot. Nothing about this movie, feels "cheap"

5) The cast is GREAT.

6) Main story is very involving!!

7) Sets are really convincing (Story takes place in the 60s... Set designer Patricia Larman did good).

What gave me the "huh"????

Gil Bellows is reduced to playing... Chief Turner??!

Why so little back story for the short stories?? Don't get me wrong, they are spooky (one FREAKED me out, SO BAD!!). I just think they would be more impact-ful, if there were a little more back story to them. Okay they have a dash of familiarity about them and then you go, "did THAT just happened"?

Also I am not sure if this is the intention

OK exorcism scenes but garbage story premise. Needlessly convoluted set-ups and one too many far fetch plot developments. Strictly for those who want to watch Korean pretty idol. I have no context to who's who of Korean pop idols except those character actor like Song Kang Ho.

Coming from Stephen King and his son, Joe Hill. Interesting premise with enough mystery hook to invest on the characters. The ending a little predictable but OK for what it is. A mysterious corn field that lure unsuspecting victims to trap in a time loop nightmare. Very "Lost-esque". Watchable to pass time and not a horror breakthrough.

Ya...think the son, Joe Hill did the heavy lifting as it doesn't do the mumbo jumbo last act that King like to do on his books, base on what I saw in the movie. The son can write, he's not bad and just need that one giant hit to be up there with his dad. Love his Locke & Key books.

Watched In The Tall Grass. As much as horror factors in there I feel like it is an innuendo to religions or any cults. Those who entered it, mostly are doomed to be in it forever. The "leader" promises a "way out" (heaven) but never fulfils it. Keeps his followers in check and uses fear to control them.

I recently watched Pusaka (2019) . I really find it not bad for Malaysian setting. Scary at times and good acting from the main cast!

The Grudge (2020)

Honestly, I only have a vague memory of the original Japanese horror movie.

Alot of school girls, a little boy covered in "chalk" powder and emo eye makeup

Also, an invalid old Japanese lady...

That is it...

And, honestly, I wasn't looking to watch a movie today.

I found out that this was on, and rushed to the cinema to watch this.

I remember the trailer intrigued me, so I was in a darken movie theater, and watched the movie

I was interrupted twice by my own phone (I could have sworn I put in on silence).

This movie is a little "multiple personality".

In one hour, thirty four minutes, it tried to tell 4 stories, and it can get confusing...

To make matters worst, some character are in two of the stories....

Additionally, is it me or are guy characters in present day movies, get... the shower scene... (as depicted in the poster...)

hmm.gif hmm.gif hmm.gif hmm.gif hmm.gif

I know what they tried to do.

There are not so much scary scenes, more of gore scenes.

And you know kinda when they appear...

Will it sell to horror fans...

Well, the branding would sell to most horror fan.

Did I enjoy this?

If the confusion of all the stories were better edited, maybe I would have been more entertained.

Or, maybe I am just a jaded old fart movie lover....

My Two Sen...

I Saw The Devil (2010)

Shocking. Nerve racking. Brutal. Very, very intense stuff. Not for the faint of heart. You have been warned.

This is a revenge film type thriller, right up the alley of horror fans.

When searching for 'Top Horror Films of the Decade', this showed up on a few list. Curious, I decided to watch it.

It is a Korean film that was released 10 years ago.

What unfolded was utterly shocking and even if you're a legit horror fan and used to the blood/gore/violence, you might not be prepared for this.

Simply put, this is a very, very explicit look at a serial murderer and his cruel inhumane deeds.

It's not violence thrown in for the sake for it, there is a 'reason' behind it all.

A man is driven to take revenge on his wife's brutal murder (that's an understatement) and decides to go after each suspect of the murder.

...until he actually comes face-to-face with true evil, the 'devil' himself in the form of a human.

This man knows no pain, this man has absolute zero remorse and has absolute no fear in repeating the same cruel deeds.

No spoilers, but at the end... you will either feel relieved or left unsatisfied, e.g. wanting more pain inflicted on the murderer (believe it or not).

Clocking it at nearly 2 1/2 hours, this one is unmissable if you're a fan of the genre, but be warned.

The acting performances of the cast is legit award winning and the whole film never feels boring / out of shock value.

Finally watches the film. Probably due to its over hype, there was a slight over-expectation. I mean it's good but not mind-blowing good. I enjoyed the little plot twist that came along but alas the concept wasn't anything new to me.

Enjoyed the film? Definitely.
Worthy of Oscar? Probably.

The Killing of a Sacred Deer (2017)
The Witch (it's actually VVitch)
Get Out (2017)

Hahahaha okay i don't recall watching the English version but the Japanese one yes. Ju-On is scary as hell imo. When i watched it the first time, i didn't understand the story and finds is nonsensical. But several years later i rewatched it, understanding the concept/ story better and finally realized it's about curses being passed on (and you don't even know it). Then it became freaky to me in a way and I slept with the lights on for 2 nights in a row.

Okay this sounds pretty good. I'm gonna find it! Never really liked gore but the plot sounds worthy of watching. Thanks for the recommendation.
