I mostly lurk around wink.gif

Yeah i know about the Halloween thing. It's a ballsy move that got me hopeful for that sequel to Aliens James Cameron had interest in....but then Ridley Scott started babbling about his Covenant sequel recently so who knows how that goes  shakehead.gif

Back to Child's Play.
I'm not saying that it's a bad movie. No, far from it. I saying it a good attempt at a modern day horror that just unfortunately got dragged down by expectations due to it being made as a Child's Play "re-imagining". That alone automatically draws comparison to the originals and in the end if this one doesn't take off  it'll end up being a forgettable addition to the pile instead of being a nice attempt at a confused killer robot movie. We have tons of killer doll movies in the 80s and 90s. Shouldn't be too hard to start a new franchise with a new face that doesn't have to carry all that baggage.

Movie execs expecting all movies to be a hit is the reason why originality is dying in the genre. Which is also probably why new Annabelle sucks so much, lol  laugh.gif

Here's hoping Hellraiser gets the trimming it needs, if it ever come. Still pissed that the fanfilm was denied over a tease of a reboot, and then Judgement happened.

Hellraiser reborn!! Yea!!!

Lack of horror scares, relying mostly on jump scares with a somewhat predictable story. There were just a couple of truly horrifying scenes. Execution/direction wise is pretty decent. The acting performances from the main cast was convincing as well. Heard it is better than the 1989 film, so that's a good thing I guess.

Overall a decent horror flick but nothing too memorable. Worth a watch if you're aching for a horror fix.

At best this is a 6/10.

I recall watching the old version as I saw the DVD in my Uni's library. Watched it with a friend and I'd say there's nothing scary in it.

However, read the book and you'll be amazed at how good the scare can be. The seed of horror that King sows into the reader's mind is just amazing. Sadly, none of the film brought onscreen has ever done his book(s) any justice. I'll give an exception to The Green Mile (which is not exactly horror in terms of genre) and honorary mention to Stanley Kubrick's Shining.

Salem's Lot is also a very eerie story when I read the book. I'd say the film wasn't all bad but again, lacking some sort of essence that the book carries. This will bring me to a next post below biggrin.gif

Doctor Sleep 2019

I know that once more, no film will be able to do King's book any justice. Doctor Sleep was so so so good. It's been so long (far too long) that I've read a book that could make my heart pump fast, fear for my life without any logical reason (especially in bed at night, trying to sleep) yet excited wanting to know what's next. It was very hard to put the book down every time I need to stop reading and day-in-day-out, all I could think about was where I left off.

Although a sequel, you'll be able to understand the book/ story without having read or seen Shining since it's a new plot. But you'll be able to appreciate Doctor Sleep better having read or at least watched the former.

Here's an excerpt from Wiki:-

"Following the events of The Shining, Danny remains psychologically traumatized, while Wendy, his mother, slowly recovers from her injuries. Angry ghosts from the Overlook Hotel eventually find Danny, including the woman from Room 217. Chef Hallorann eventually teaches Danny how to imprison the ghosts in lock boxes inside his mind. The adult Dan reprises his father's legacy of anger and alcoholism. Dan drifts for decades, but eventually finds an AA community and gives up drinking. He settles in a New Hampshire town and works in a hospice, where his remnant psychic abilities provide comfort to the dying. With the aid of a cat that can sense when a person is about to die, Dan becomes known as "Doctor Sleep".

In the meantime, Abra, a toddler girl with psychic powers greater than Dan's, slowly and unintentionally establishes a telepathic bond with him. As she grows, the contact becomes more conscious and voluntary. One night, Abra psychically witnesses a ritual torture and murder of a boy by the True Knot, a group of quasi-immortals who wanders across America and periodically feed on "steam", a psychic essence that children with "the shining" produce when they are tortured to death. Horrified, Abra telepathically reaches out for Dan, but they are unable to do anything for the boy. At the same time, the True Knot's leader, Rose the Hat, is also aware of Abra's existence as a potential major source of sustenance."

I look forward to watching Doctor Sleep, with lower expectation for the film sweat.gif ...since the book was totally awesome.

I read somewhere they are changing pinhead into a female character and the reboot is not going to be rated R anymore because they wanted a wider audience. Not really anticipating this reboot if all this is true.

I dun mind a female pinhead, since that could easily be explained as a demon taking many forms, but WTF at a non-R Hellraiser bangwall.gif

Another day, another reboot. The premise differ a bit from the OG but unsure it can be as effective...

It is just a rumor and I hope it does not come true but Hollywood might want a bigger audience. Hence, they will not want an R-rated movie. Not every movie can be another Deadpool.

The problem is the reboot headed by David S.Goyer. No film director attached yet. Goyer on his own is mediocre, his acclaimed works usually accompanied by a strong film director like Del Toro, Nolan, etc... His solo projects sucks balls. An anthology TV show surrounding Cenobite also on planning stage.

Really good, not a single dull moment from start till the end . Although the plot a bit unbelievable , still an intense movie. After watching the movie, one question pop up in my mind. A good swimmer really can swim faster than an alligator?

Very good movie aside from some scenes that don't make sense, but certainly worth to watch.

Crawl (2019)

I absolutely, positively & categorically LOVE this movie.

It has thrills.

It has spills.

It has gore.

Some scenes will make you apprehensive.

Some scenes will leave you at awe, abhor, dread, disgusted, dismayed, panic, loath and terrified.

This is what is odd, you WILL love it too.

In the vein of The Shallows (2016), so if you love that, you will love this here.

Fun Fact (I googled):

Saltwater crocodiles (Crocodylus porosus) are estimated to swim at speeds of up to 15 kilometers. The french swimmer Frédérick Bousquet set world record in the 50 m freestyle with a time of 20.94 seconds (Average of 8.6km)

So, no, humans cannot swim faster than a crocodile.

Even with this boo boo, this movie is one heck of an entertaining movie.

Haley (played by Kaya Scodelario [last seen in Maze Runner]) is really good here.

Dave (played by Barry Pepper [I don't believe I did not get famous from Battlefield Earth (2000)]) is believable too.

I think the only this I would criticize about this movie for is... every character seems to be dealt from... a loaf of white bread??? Please do note that I am joking...

On THAT note, this is only my two sen

Yup similar to the Shallows and 47 Meters Down but more gory.

It's alligator btw, not crocodile but yeah should be more or less similar capability. The only explanation is maybe the Gators were further away and also didn't immediately noticed her when she swam to the boat. ☺️
