"The Maxis sales personnel mentioned that they could, at their discretion should they choose to. However, they can ONLY use the iPhone 3G for calls & SMSes ONLY.

Data connectivity (3G access, internet surfing, GPRS, EDGE, etc) would not be functional anymore. To their knowledge, it is disabled/crippled if you’re not using the Maxis iPhone 3G with the supplied simcard & of course the 1 to 2 year contractual plan that you have signed up for."

I was thinking of getting the 3GS for 6 months then evaluate whether i want to switch carriers biggrin.gif
*
What that term basically mean is the plans (any of them) are meant to be used together with the iPhone. Thats because the services are custom tailored for the iPhone. Like you said, the iPhone is basically dead in the water without any data services. A lot of people had ideas of using the plan with other phones and probably some went all the way to sell the phone. That is in violation of contract terms. First you're selling the iPhone which is subsidized in the first place for a higher value (probably) and that value (profit) is illegitimate as it was packaged with the plan. Second, you're using the service meant for the accompanying iPhone with another phone which is in violation of contract terms again.

And due to these violations, Maxis has the right to terminate your entitlement to the service itself. Of course, who would know? At this moment, we can safely assume that Maxis has no mechanism or do not place any checks (at least) to weed out illegitimate users. (They can always track the IMEI with each account, etc).

So in your case, once your contract expires you can still proceed with whatever plan you're in with the exception that you now have the freedom to switch carriers or plans within the carrier.

Why u guys dont use nimbuzz?

Very nice and stable

Does it support the following:

- Stay active even when exit (background)
- Push notifications
- Send attachments like pictures, audio, etc

If these are working, then great!

@davidmak,
The Maxis iPhone plans aren't really catered for the iPhone; they're catered to make you spend more $. The ValuePlus plans are much better plans as compared to the iValue plans.

With ValuePlus, your monthly commitment is used across voice/data/SMS but with the iValue plans, it's a separate limit for voice + data and SMS is paid separately too!

@xandman,
Will do when I finally get it! But there's nothing much to review for now I guess, without push notifications tongue.gif

@xandman,
Yes, IM+ can stay active in the background; U decide if U want it to stay active for 10 minutes right up to 24hours (or more).

Been using beejive since it first came out and never regret spending 15.99 on it. It's worth every penny (just like buying the iPhone).

Yes, everyone knows that. We already know that, its a rip off. But thats how things are going to be. By contract those plans are for iPhone. Thats my point.

@davidmak,
Maxis does allow the iPhone 3G to be bought outright without the plan biggrin.gif Also, for others who purchase their iPhone 3Gs out of MY, they could always keep to their ValuePlus plans + open the RM99 Unlimited Data Plan or whichever data plan that's needed.

@frozzbyte,
Ok Ok. I'm much convinced now tongue.gif

I just upgraded my OS to 3.0 on my Iphone 3G and I instantly feel things are laggy/slower. Thanks Apple for making a dumb new OS and indirectly asking us to buy 3GS biggrin.gif

Wait we're confusing ourselves. If we choose to get the iPhone at a subsidized price, we need to get either one of those iValue plans right? So once you're on contract with one of the iValue plans, by contract terms, you can only legally use the iValue plans with the iPhone. Of course if you don't want the iValue plans, you can just get the plain vanilla iPhone but at a higher retail price. There's no contract, Maxis doesn't care how you use it. It only cares about the contract because it subsidized a portion of the iPhone's price so that you would ride on their network. Splitting this off can be treated as a possible lost of revenue. Ooh you know how they twist things together. Hehehe...

Moreover, they said they gonna have a much faster processor next year. SHould I wait for that?

Actually the 'internal improvements' are going to give you a lot more than you can think of. That is in terms of more complex applications and games. Also the current iPhone OS v3.0 does no justice to the 3G[S]'s hardware. Remember one guy who installed Free Memory app and there was about 100MB+ of RAM available? That 100MB+ of free RAM can utilized for something iPhone OS always lack - MULTITASKING. Which is why I believe the next iteration of iPhone OS will have some kind of multitasking and a major overhaul. Right now iPhone's answer to multitasking is push notifications which is something like a workaround (and it is still buggy can you believe it).

Also the PowerVR SGX graphics core is some little advance core that can bring real PSP-era games to your iPhone (not possible with legacy iPhone 2G/3G). This possibility is very real. In terms of the CPU core, the latest and greatest in the ARM world is Cortex A8 for now (dual issue, in order). The next one would take some time and that is Cortex A9 (dual issue most likely and out of order). That little A9 is multi-core prep, so you'll see somewhere between 2 to 4 cores in one little ARM processor.

Looking through Apple's iPhone line, we see that they use the same hardware platform for 2 generations - iPhone 2G and then 3G. I believe you can see some trend from there. Of course, no telling they wouldn't change by next year.

Heads-up from Psyeo, Beejive with Push Notification is up on iTunes. Click "Update" on your iPhone or check for your updates from iTunes on your PC/Mac. rclxms.gif

@davidmak,
Yes you're absolutely right. Hence, if U purchased ur unit from Maxis and signed on a plan, U will be 'stuck' with the iValue plans till the end of your contract period.

@rushmode, clawhammer,
It's not entirely true that the phone is much slower; I felt it was lagging initially but after I rebooted the phone, it seemed fine; I haven't had a chance to test it out on TTR 2.6 yet though.

@acc.wholesaler,
It's your call as to whether U want the iPhone 3GS or not. I'll like to have it but it makes no financial sense to me. Personally, I'll continue using the iPhone 3G and wait till the iPhone 3GSS comes out next year before I even start thinking of changing biggrin.gif

I'm hitting nothing but problems trying to log into YM through Beejive 3.0. Error message "signon.time.out" all the time.

@stringfellow,
I think YM is on strike. Can't log onto YM through Adium either! I suspect it's not a BeeJiveIM issue but a YM issue biggrin.gif

@xandman,
Just downloaded BeeJiveIM, will give updates as soon as I'm done playing around with it but I just luv the push messages - it appears on ur menu screen like an SMS about 1 sec after it's been sent ! *LoL* Push rocks! biggrin.gif

Also, can someone tell me how long will BeeJiveIM keep U logged on? The version I downloaded doesn't allow U to set the period.
