yes and no... there is a lot of factors to speed up the wear and tear... alignment and balancing also 1 of the cause, road conditions... usually the UHP tires wear of faster as they are more into grips and the threadwear index is lower then the entry levels...

@william68,
PP2 hydroplaning no good??? i wonder why??? i'm happy with the hydroplaning with PP2, Kumho Ecsta SPT, Hankook V12 does not even match it, and some others higher grade of tire cannot match it also...

nice guide, thanks a lot  thumbup.gif
does those ultra high performance tires wear off faster than those normal performance or entry level tires? or it should depend on the tyre brand and model?
*
yes it will wear out faster that depend how u drive and use ...If all the time attack corner max 15k kmh that happen to me
Ultra high performance tire normally their UTQG is from 180 to 240 for this type of tire it offer very high grip level

Yokohama Parada is not bad but after wear off to around 50% it will act like Michelin PP2. Aqua planning efficiency drops.

Parada dry grips gets better after warm up but lose a lot of traction if it goes near the high temperature threshold.

How bout in wet condition??? Is da traction/grip ok2/so2/superb???

Sorry didn't know this thread existed.

Well anyway, dad busted my front left tyre.

For 225/40 R18, Conti CSC3 (stock), Goodyear F1 Asymmetric, or Bridgestone RE050?

Planning to change both fronts this weekend.

Its is not inferior for PP2 but the efficiency of aqua planning resistance drop when the tread depth drop. This is normal for almost all asymmetric. Most of them are pressure optimized hence you see it need to have correct position for inside and outside.

The best water dissipation system is directional type which have enough water channel especially those in V arrangement. But this is just water dissipation and not about the tire compound yet.

--------------------

Higher grip tires tend to be on softer compound hence the treadwear time reduce. It can go as low as 120 to 140, any lower should be around semi-slick class which is 80 and below.

By past experience driving in Tawau - Semporna - LDatu road (a lot of sharp curve & hilly areas) ; my vote goes to Mr Hankok v12.....the best for above average driver but price tag abt $280/$320 a piece (2006/2008, maybe bcoz of tax & cost...)

Got some friend tested on a v12 before in Sepang. They are great as long as you don't heat them up excessively.

feedback from my fren it is ok... but of course u don expect much from that... it thread is nice and cheap but performance still not up to the UHP standard...

yes you maybe right i wanna try GY GS-D3 b4 i really say PP2 tops but compare to Hankook V12 directional with PP2 for Hydroplaning... PP2 is still better and my V12 was only 7 months old wear rate around 60% kua, quite lasting coz my gf driving it mostly...
my PP2 1 yrs++ with around 30% thread still handles better in hydroplaning or soaking wet highway condition... smile.gif that is my view only but PP2 is really good in hydroplaning, try that out... used 3 set of PP2 on 2 cars (Vios and SEG) b4 switch to V12 on my Vios... wanna try GY GS-D3 on my SEG next change see whether the hydroplaning is that good or not...
BTW my reference is soaking wet highway with around 110km/h... V12 give me some minor planing (ppl in the car can feel also) but PP2 goes thru with just slight move on my steering wheel... directional gives u ample of grip but hydroplaning is still arguable coz of the design... don get cheated by PP2 design, this was told to me by a Sifu in AW forum...
please read the tire testing result from Opel which is available in Hankook Kaishen website... PE2 which is same thread with PP2 but different compound tops in Hydroplaning categories... but Hankook give you more confident on corners and braking... test is done with Hankook V12, Yokohama S Drive, GY F1 Assy, Dunlop SP Sport Maxx, Pirelli PZero Nero, Conti SC3, Toyo T1R...
again that is individual preference... for me i prefer to have very good hydroplaning and good handling with good amount of grip... coz hydroplaning can take ur life easily with just 1 sec, but in the corners and braking u mostly still in control of the car...
i have 1 experience in my fren Myvi with stock tires nearly take us to a spinning adventure on Guthrie, but another fren Kenari fitted with PP2 goes thru the stretch with only minor hydroplaning, both wear rate are almost the same...

Well, I understand your conclusion.
All this is very subjective to car type, allignment geometry, car weight, tire size and etc.

I am not comparing between v12 and PP2 but amount most of the tires that I used or driven before. My first tries on PP2 was on a Civic FD for a week then its traded and top up with a PZero Rosso due to the car is driven by other driver which need differen requirement.

BTW, a tire width that is too wide will also cause easy aqua planning especially when it wear near 50%.

ops sorry should be 195/50/R16(that's my current stock) haha
what are the difference between 205/50/R16 or 205/55/R16 and 195/50/R16?

does it perfectly fit into satria neo?

I need the pricing for 3 of the tyres for comparison and cost saving!

Neo... hmmm if not mistaken u can change to 205/50 R16 or 205/45 R16 which runs not far from ur ori size...
if $$$ is the concerns then u cannot get performance tires that is good lo...

205/45/R16
Hankook V12 Evo - RM 255 @ Jooi Seng, Klang (May 09)
Falken Ziex ZE-912 - RM245 @ Jooi Seng, Klang (May 09)
goodyear gs-d3(thailand) - RM290 @ banhooi klang. (price is all balancing+alignment inclusive) dec09
falken ziex 912 - RM245 @ banhooi klang. (price is all balancing+alignment inclusive) dec09
yokohama a.drive - RM245 @ banhooi klang. (price is all balancing+alignment inclusive) dec09

205/50/R16
Falken ZIEX-912 - RM265 @ Jooi Seng Klang (Apr 2009)
Falken 522 - RM239 @ Tek Ming Sunway (Apr 2009)
Silverstone Ftz Sport Evol8 - RM 235/pcs @ Batu Pahat include balancing, alignment, adjust chamber.
Goodride SP06 -$185 - tg malim

i already erase all the tire which is higher than RM300.. i think ur best choice is silverstone or falken...
actually Hankook V12 is nice but if it is out of ur budget then no point...
tires is ur shoes if u buy cheap tire but the grip is not there then it might danger ur own life or even ur love ones...

Just my single cents...

wat??? so expensive??? what is ur ride??? if you don mind u have UHP tires you can try this also

225/40/R18
Yokohama S.Drive - RM500 Quiksave
Toyo T1R- RM580 Quiksave
Michelin PP2 - RM660 Quiksave

i think PP2 is a bit on hard side maybe u acn try S Drive or T1R... better look at the thread wear index make sure it is above 220
then it will last a bit longer... smile.gif

or if you don mind u can up size it a bit more...

235/40/R18
Toyo DRB - rm 650 ( yet to neqot ) Hup Shun, SS3 (may2009)
Dunlop DZ101 - rm620 (yet to negot) Hup Shun SS3 (may2009)
Goodyear revspec RS02 (japan ) - rm560 ( w/ all items incl ) Hup Shun Bandar Sunway (may2009)
Hankook RS2 - rm599 ( trade in same size tire ) Tek Ming Bandar Sunway (may2009)
Hankkok V12 Evo - rm540 Tek Ming Bandar Sunway (july 2009)
Falken ST115 (japan ) - rm600, Eneos, one utama (July 2009)

*I already erase some tire which are RM700 n above...
it is within the 3% recommended rules... smile.gif

It's for my Fiat Bravo T-Jet 150. Stock tyres are Conti CSC3s which would cost me around RM1150 each. I'm actually quite agreeable to the F1 Asymmetric price, considering the performance.

if you consider that it is quite reasonable as 1 of my sifu already fixed and good reviews from him... he uses 17" only but from his review this give you good quiet smooth drives but it also provide you ample of grips in corners also, so it is a good buy for an extreme tire

oh thanks very good info, quite ok thought from above range of tires but why not 55 instead of 45 and 50 I assume 205/50/R16 is the same size as the ori. I might getting hankook cause the price still within the budget as what I expected.

it is not the same... it is 1.7~% bigger than ur current size while 45 series is smaller... but 55 series is out of the 3% rules for tire change within ur stock size... if you don mind is it a bit smaller compare with ur stock size (about 1.7km/h slower only) it is a great choice to get V12... but if really u wanna get better comfort with 50 series then u can ask for RS2 Hankook also... but not sure about the price... smile.gif

u can try BFGoodrich G-Force Sport or Kumho Ecsta SPT also have 205/50 R16... but not sure about the price... feedback rating is not bad also... smile.gif look around...

after testing a friend's car fitted with 17" ones, i will highly recommend the goodyear f1 assy. tires to anyone!
if offer a huge amount of grip while being quiet at the same time!
