Jeremy,
Where you stay ?

Mic,
Not sure if Civic is PP1 or 2. It could be PP1 but cannot confirm didn't have the tire for long.

Han RS2 if not mistaken has similar treadwear as Yoko AD07 but i couldn't be wrong.

One more thing to beware. Not all tires build with the same rubber. Some has high treadwear due to soft compound when new so you feel ample of grip then after 40% wear it will slowly in medium-hard compound. This is the grip start loosing and the tread is always there.

well it depends what u want... but if you say PP series hydroplaning is not that good then it will be a surprise... smile.gif
Michelin is well known that its hydroplaning is quite good... but if you find any better tires than PP series i'm interested to know also... as far as i know Hankook with 15k km (thread wear is not very much coz my gf drive that car mostly) is not better than PP2 with only 40~50% left... NCT5 new tires is somewhere near PP2 with around 30~40% left... that is depend on my feel and on the same car... but have not try any other than this 3 coz a some sifu said PP2 is among the best if i wanna try GY GSD3 is my next choice for 195/55 R15...
cheers bro

Well.
I don't say PP/PP2 its not good but it average for me.

Anyway, Michelin is not the best tires producer for all class.

Goodyear GSD3 might not up to your standard when you try to compare it against PP1 or 2 in wet and dry grip except aqua planning capabilities.

To check all the aqua planning then need to check on the tire water dissipation rate at given tire size and tread depth.

If you willing to spend a bit, can try BF Goodrich Profiler.

hmmm i see how... but in terms of gripping i think GSD3 will be better than PP2 but hydro/aqua planing i need to try.. hard to say it is good or not by looking at it and by theory, in the matter or fact i see V12 is good also as they have 4 linear groove to help but in the fact it is not really... as i said, do not fool by some Assymetric pattern design...

@jeremy0, u might need to try others shop that carries BS sign coz ipoh a lot of tires also very expensive...
BTW i'm from Ipoh also Jln Kampar... so need to find lo, such a low profile in 16" i think there isn't that much of choice for you in Ipoh... Try Hankook shop and find RS2 and see... might have it is quite nice also RE001 Adrenalin is some wat for me is a lil over priced...

would like to ask here... you can see some cars which have large rims, but the tires are slim.. not fat tires, like the picture below. I wonder what tires are those?
Are they high profile/low profile tires? More expensive? Any advantages?

They are low profiles tires.
Low profiles tires normally start from 55 or 50 series and below.

When you reduce the tire profile you tend to have sharper steering response and reduce comfort. To an extend it will reduce the grip if you have the same tire width with different profile in the corners.

Also when a tire width is too wide it will increase the risk of aqua planning too.

it is call Low Profile tires... most of the sports car or ah beng cars are using 205/45 R17, 215/45 R17, 225/45 R17.
look at tat example 205/45 R17, 205 is the width, 45 is the percentage of the height of tire wall vs the width 45 means the height of the tire wall is 45% of the width, then lastly R17 means 17" rims...
Price - most of good or reputable the 17" tires is above RM350/pc where as normal wira 14" or 15" tire u can get around RM180 only...
Advantages -
Wider, so it gives you more contact to the road surface so u can get more traction/grip... traction already depends on the rating marked on the side wall (i'll explain to u).
Low Profile means it will give you less body roll in the corners, eg 60 series vs 45 series, 60 series u get higher profile side wall but u gain comfortness but 45 series u get lower profile side wall hence u gain on hanlding...

U have the pros sure have cons also...
Wider means u will lose a lil acceleration on ur vehicle coz the tires and rims come with the car is optimized with FC and others meaning...
Low Profile side wall means u will lose comfortness on the cabin vs the High profile side wall... but still it depends on ur car suspension setup also...

ok now to the ratings of tire... click on the spoiler to see

hmm actually the review for Achilles tyres seems not bad, the ATR Sport, thread looks quite sporty oso. And the last I know they're going for 200 a piece for 215/45 but very hard to find stocks.

I'm using it for my rear tyres for drifts, so basically i wanted something cheap (co's it'll be destroyed often) and reasonable good (doesn't have to be super geng like Neova, cheap n super geng dun come hand-in-hand).

Accelera Alpha is also another choice I was looking at but the shops in Sunway also don't carry them (I asked 3 shops), the last I saw it's in Rawang but I ain't gonna go so far

in the end i went for Silverstone Evol 8

Added on January 21, 2010, 8:49 pmand 1 more doubt.. as you can see the RX8, the tires are so close to the body. how do you achieve this? I've heard about sport spring, but not very clear about it. Hw bout absorbers?

What do u need to change in order to get that effect?
I drive a satria by the way.. tongue.gif

Well if you wanna remove the 4WD look a like gap is via sport spring is the cheapest but not always good return as it will create more stress to the shock. If the OEM shocks can take it so things will be fine.

If you want to proper way change the lot of the spring and shocks.

For a CPS Waja, maybe you can try 15inch 195/55R15 which can save you money if you having hot driving mean tires change every 6-9months.

what is your ride? it's higly possible with bimmer / mercz / sportscar / track car.
a comfortable suspension setup may compromise on ultra low profile tires(with bigger rims) but the main problem is the potholes on our road. ultra low profile tires will affect the rims.
again, ultra low profile tires like those unde 40 require a bigger rims to look nice. bigger rims means stiffer suspension to avoid the inner fender touching the tires during hard corner or extra load.
stiffer suspension will definitely sacrifice the comfort ride.
btw, ultra low profile tires usually has a very hard sidewall; harder tires sidewall = stiff ride.

choose one that suit your driving style / preference.
