What exactly is Pi?

The Greek letter Pi [ ] is used, in mathematics, to symbolise the ratio of a circle's circumference to its diameter. It is commonly used to calculate the area of circles and the volume of cones and spheres.

The value of Pi is a constant and has been determined to be approximately 3.14159. For more accuracy, you can download a value of Pi calculated to 32 thousand decimal places.

The lower the calculation, the faster your PC.

Nope, superpi is all about SPEED and stability goes right out of the window. OC your processor and ram to the max until it can only run superpi once and have enough time to save the screenshot, anymore than that the pc will crash! biggrin.gif

Grab the ClawHammer CG 1MB while it last.... Obviously having 1MB L2 cache is an advantage. You'll notice the difference in 3DMark, Super PI and PiFast

For NewCastle, it's the same thing. Depend on the ram/timings that you're using.... 2.6GHz/2-2-2 [FSB260 1:1] should give you 32s/33s

I don't this thread is worth pinning, there's only a handful of people who actively bench with SuperPi. To prevent this thread from being auto deleted, don't let it get inactive for more than 30 days.

whatever i do, i cant go more than 230htt using this proc + ram at 1:1 .. either i used x11 multiplier or x10..
and 5x ldt only max at 220htt.. more than that must use 4x ldt or lower
my vdimm is 2.85 (the max of my msi neo2)
and yes.. i used 1T all the time.. (coz 2T seems dont have a big diff in oc)
last time i did around 260fsb 1:1 with intel platform, and 245htt with s754 (abit kv8pro)

I am backkkkk!!!!!!
I will be upping my VGA voltage soon,so that I can get the magical 5GHz. LOL

Was in Vegas for the CES show. Met up with a few companies and went to their CES after parties. It was sick man. Most of them were having suites and penthouses in the Bellagio. Mad expensive hotel.

My week should be quite eventful in the next few weeks. Alot of companies have unveiled their products in CES. I was in the DFi party and I caught a glimpse of some new Corsair DDRs and the DFi SLi board with the 4V VDIMM. Sicko to the maximum. Talked to the respective reps from the companies and they have agreed to send us samples in VR-Zone.

whatever i do, i cant go more than 230htt using this proc + ram at 1:1 .. either i used x11 multiplier or x10..
and 5x ldt only max at 220htt.. more than that must use 4x ldt or lower
my vdimm is 2.85 (the max of my msi neo2)
and yes.. i used 1T all the time.. (coz 2T seems dont have a big diff in oc)
last time i did around 260fsb 1:1 with intel platform, and 245htt with s754 (abit kv8pro)

-----my d43 1T can do 220 only....but 2T confirm 257 at the moment....

Sorry about that, I simply took it from my OCZ PC3700 review page.

yeah i notice that ikanayam...thats why my kingmaxpc3500 @ its max 230fsb(2.5-3-3-6) beat d43 at 255 fsb(3-4-4-8)...im so frustrated that i let go of that kingmax to get d43 at that time..
but lucky i did that cos im on amd64 now...

edit: kingmax able to do PAT while d43 on the contrary...

I'm gonna troubleshoot tomorow. Hope it all will be fine. If everything is ok, I'll send the DFI board together with your 560 and XP120. smile.gif

I am not an expert on AMD rig but you can try for higher processor clock and forget about the RAM timing first. Try to find the highest speed for your processor and loosen the RAM timing first.

I have a suggestion here in ranking :

Intel Pentium 4 (prescott, northwood) ranking
AMD Athlon64 / Sempron 3100+ ranking
Intel Celeron (C, D) ranking
AMD AthlonXP / Sempron ranking.

Each category has a top 5 ranking. From here we can compare the difference of different CPU as well as the same class one smile.gif

sse2 for a64 & p4 nwood
ftp://ftp.tm.net.my/incoming/sse2_pi.zip

sse3 for p4 prescott
ftp://ftp.tm.net.my/incoming/sse3_pi.zip

best to make a backup of your orig spi when using the patch...run both n see...mine got 3 sec difference...but i think for high end system prob only 1 sec difference...

at stock vcore, setting fsb to 226mhz raised the processor speed to 4.294ghz and rams up to 226 mhz 2225 at 1:1 as well. ive got a pretty substansial raise in speed superpi wise smile.gif satisfied i must say!

super pi is about CPU speed. 226 X 19 at stock vcore good enuf already. The CPU will be the bottle neck, so it's hard to push the BH-5 further unless with lower multi.

hmmm.. i didnt put an eye on the temps.. but load temps for this proc on the xp120 is hovering around 60+ degress celcius... reasonable for a chip like this i guess.

i could if i up the vcore more, which i havent done yet.
i could also do that if i lower my multi, but as bwan said, mebbe it'll bring slower times.
anyhow i havent started to really find out wut this chip can do yet with different settings.

from my experience...

At 2.85v 3:2. I'll put back the Booster and retest at 5:4.

How about if divide the category for Intel Northwood and Prescott and AMD64 and Barton? It'll give more oppurtinities for different setup.

300fsb! wanted to reach that figure actually, 50% oc is kinda hard to reach with normal setups. anyway i agree having different categories since the result varies too much from amd and p4, especially when comparing between small to large iterations.

It's Sticky now. For new results, please include your CPU Type and Meory. CPU-Z screenies together with the Super PI will do also.

P/s: For the topic starter, Bossnass15, thanks for your effort. You can edit the result as well. For those without the RAM or CPU type before, you can post yours in the next result.

For more accuracy, you can download a value of Pi calculated to 32 thousand decimal places

The lower the score the faster your PC.

no rules. If you want high score, use the patched one. But if you want the legit score, use the one you used just now, the modded milisecond version. Maybe,if I am free, I will edit the rakning for patched and non-patched.

m8, anything goes wrong with your setup? whistler's OCZ VX at 250 FSB seems faster than yours with about the same timing? Maybe you need to reinstall your OS.

Im not sure. I've been using this window not more than 1 month. but i was able to get the same results at 255fsb with PAT enabled, rather than 270. hpwever my results with Pi was always not good. also that was just a simple run to see whether the proc are stable at 270. i've never actually kept much screenies for Pi and i cant do it since my ram is not with me right now. I passed it to dinster last weekend, it should be on it's way to u by tomorrow, at least, if he's not bz at the time being.

here's my Pi at 240 with UTT. Attached Image
aquamark at 270, same settings with Pi, CPU also quite low. Attached Image

should be using the utt... right?
if so, try to set the CL1.5 in BIOS and can go for 16clocks on idle cycle limit
tweeke you ram more.. you will get 28/29sec in no time

p/s : use the SPI with mili second tongue.gif

Thanks for the tip Evogenix. Currently testing the ram's stability in windows with prime smile.gif

Btw, could you elaborate more on the Idle Cycle Limit setting? I haven't done any tweaking at all yet as i'm still burning in the ram. Will start tweaking after I achieve maximum HTT 1:1 first.

Also what does setting it to 16 clocks have to do with CL1.5?

you have to do more tweeking on your ram...
use a software named A64 tweeker <-- google... you will found it
and try to find SPI mod1.4 that got mili sec like mine... With the SPI mod1.4, you will know how far you away from the 35/36sec border

Non stop trying with different setting is the key word to get better results tongue.gif

good luck,

Your system is not optimised. With 2.43GHz, You should expect 36-35sec.
The ram is holding you back, I presume. Are you running it 1T or 2T?

Here's mine, running on God-damn Winnie 3000+ 0503.

I think it's better to include the milliseconds as well for most accurate ranking. No more 5 people sharing the same rank biggrin.gif

Nice job of keeping the updates..
Maybe the new miliseconds SuperPI would help u a lot dude..
The top ten competition will be tighter so u dont really have to update that often.....
Looking at the front page, maybe those in the 32 would make the cut just nice.....
Btw thanks for helping me keeping the thread well organized..

Just my first time on Athlon64 rig. I think my memory is holding the timings of the CPU, as I see some people with 2.6ghz does better than my paltry 33secs.

What do you guys think?

It is your RAM. Lack of bandwith.
Most of the 32secs is on multi 10. Meaning that they at least run the ram at 260++ frequency with some running tight and some running loose timing.
Tight timing with 1T increases bandwith for AMD64 significantly unlike those of Intels.

Thanks for the confirmation. That's what I think too when earlier on as I see my RAM can't hang on when I set to 1T.

What's the best RAM chipset for A64? BH6 and TCCD?

Just upped 1 sec by tightening the RAM to 2.5-4-4-6 and speed to 2.75GHz.

Just hit 31s... using 1T timing instead of 2T.

Grats jarofclay, i'm sure you can do 30s with that speed. Try tighten up the timings in A64tweaker and you're good to go

Just curious, did you do that to show time at that speed? or because.. and @ PCcrazy, thanks, so far it has scaled very well to voltage increases and the temp has stayed much lower than my 3500 win or a Venice that I got the other day. The Venice worked good but I only went up to 1.56v and got a 28 sec 1m at 2880. It is a 0516 FPAW. It stays around 30c where the SD stays about 27-28c.

The answer to your question can be dependent on many factors, check this out and if you have done every tweaks out there, I'm sure you will find the right solutions.

http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=49345

It's too difficult to tell. Maybe you didn't close all the services that you don't need? thermal throttling has been activated without you knowing it? Even having wallpaper as your background plus visual styles can be detrimental to your scores. So which one? we don't really know, try those tricks first to see which method of tweaks can give you significant PI time.

ram banwidth is very important on Intels rig. So, lower the multiplier and oc as much as you can with 1:1 setting.

the reason most of the intels user dont have decimal point on their records, is because they oc-ed their proc along time ago, before the SPI mod1.4 released.

for more accurate results, we can fix with SPI mod1.4 from no on. So that we can compare the results of time to time with other forumers.

@babyelf,I don't have the Venice anymore, but yes, speed for speed and same tweaker settings it was about a second diff. PB, yes. @PCcrazy, you probably won't want it now. Here is pic of more normal. **Also, that epox box, has a hole under the cpu with a fan blowing on the back of the cpu area. Did you see the thermal pics of these boards?

Basically yes, too many $$$ for both. However, the Venice was a good cpu. I did a 16m Pi with it @3001 and it was easier to run (more stable)at 2.86 to 2938 with just water and no ice than SD. I did have air-con on it at the time though. But still a good cpu, just have one mobo though. Another thing, it was a 3500 so for the, my luck is not so good that I could get a 3000 to be able to run as good as yours or others. Check out air-con pic. It kept my temps down to 26 to 27 as compared to 33 or 34 with just fans. Make a big difference in ability to get higher stable. smile.gif EDIT** yea, I wish I had some ram that would do 300 too.
