According to a report in the British tabloid The Daily Mail, Arsenal are prepared to go head-to-head with Manchester City for Wolfbsurg's Edin Dzeko.

Apparently, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has already entered into negotiations with the Bundesliga champions with regard to acquiring the 23-year-old's services.

It is thought that either one of the Premier League duo could land the 6ft 3in forward in exchange for a transfer fee of around €13.5 million (£12m).

However, the Gunners boss is said to be optimistic that the Bosnia international, who has scored 12 goals in 17 caps, will prefer a move to the north London outfit because they'll be playing in the Champions League.

Dzeko enjoyed a fantastically productive 2008-09 season in front of goal, scoring 26 times in 32 Bundesliga appearances.
