Stuart Pearce has won the battle for Theo Walcott.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger fears his winger will end up shattered if he plays for the Under-21s AND the full England team this summer.

Walcott, 20, had already made the senior squad for World Cup games with Kazakhstan and Andorra.

And Under-21 chief Pearce yesterday picked Walcott for the Euro Championship in Sweden along with Kieran Gibbs.

- Robin van Persie says he was delighted with his personal form at Arsenal this season.

The Holland international striker said: "I have done well. I have played 44 games, including 38 as a starting player. In a tough competition like the English one, this is very good. Moreover, I had more goals and assists then ever before.

"I was only missing a trophy."

- Arsenal striker Emmanuel Adebayor says he will stay at the club if manager Arsene Wenger wants him to.

The Togo goal scorer has been linked with several clubs for a number of months but says he is happy at Emirates Stadium.

“I have always said that I feel good here,” he said.

“I have no idea of what Wenger has in mind. He is the one who takes decisions and for sure if he tells me that he does not count on me anymore, then I will search for a new team, but if he wants me to stay I will stay.”

- Arsenal are set to unveil their first signing of the summer after the club agreed a fee for Cheltenham's promising youngster Jamie Edge.

The 15-year-old midfielder has been on Arsene Wenger's radar for some time and recently returned from an under-16 tournament in Italy where he represented the Gunners against some of Europe's elite teams.

Cheltenham chairman Paul Baker said: "We have reached a financial agreement with Arsenal for the transfer of Jamie Edge.

"We believe it is an excellent deal for the club both in terms of the money we will receive this season and next and further payments that become due depending upon the progress Jamie makes at both club and international level.

"It is a particularly exciting opportunity for Jamie who now has to agree personal terms with Arsenal before the deal can be confirmed."

The north Londoners look set to further bolster their ranks with the signing of FC Zurich centre-half Martin Angha.

The defender watched from the stands as Arsenal thumped Stoke 4-1 in their final home game of the season.

He then featured for their Under-15's side in the win over Chelsea earlier this week.

A nominal fee will change hands between the two clubs which will allow the 15-year-old to go straight into the Under-16 squad for next season.

- Cheltenham youngster Jamie Edge is soon to become an Arsenal player.

The 15-year old has been watched by the Gunners for some time now and after representing the club in an U16 tournament in Italy, will make the move to Emirates Stadium.

"Cheltenham Town have reached a financial agreement with Arsenal for the transfer of Jamie Edge,” Cheltenham chairman Paul Baker told the club’s official website.

- Arsenal are eyeing Crystal Palace fullback Nathaniel Clyne.

The Croydon Advertiser says Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has identified the 18-year-old as a possible summer target after having the teenager watched on numerous occasions at the back end of last season.

A bid in the region of £4million for one of the hottest properties outside the Premier League is likely to be enough to persuade Palace to part with the full-back.

- Arsenal youth boss Steve Bould hailed his young players after their FA Youth Cup second-leg victory at Liverpool this week.

Bould told arsenal.com: “For these kids it has topped a great, great year. We know we are not in a results environment when we set out at the start of the season, but the way they have performed all year, they have been head and shoulders above most of the other teams in the country. I think we've got excellent players and this is the icing on the cake.

“It wasn't anywhere near the level we reached on Friday but we showed our quality in a few little patches. I think we were always capable of stepping it up because Liverpool came back to 1-1 but we still got the result. It was difficult and we didn't perform at our greatest level but it didn't really matter tonight. They all tried. They did switch off a little bit but like I say it was a great result and has capped a fine season.”

- Arsenal superkid Jack Wilshere was thrilled to win the FA Youth Cup this week.

“If you think about it, we’ve been together since we were nine and we’ve wanted to win things together ever since then,” Wilshere told Arsenal.com on the Anfield turf. “Now we have gone and won the Youth Cup – it’s unbelievable.

“We knew we had the strength in depth in this team to do it and it’s just great really to win them both. We always had belief we could do it. We just carried on showing what we could do and the cups came.

“It’s great, this is basically what we’ve been working for all season. It’s just an amazing feeling.”

- Bordeaux striker Marouane Chamakh has revealed he could be on his way to Arsenal this summer.

The £8 million-rated forward said: "Yes, I'll go. I hope the leaders will show understanding.

"It is important that both parties get a fair deal for me to leave calmly. I have several contacts, particularly in England.

"There is also something with Arsenal, but there is nothing concrete."[/B]

- Gareth Barry is holding out for a summer move to Arsenal.

Aston Villa captain Barry is desperate to play Champions League football during the best years of his career – and the Gunners are his No.1 option.

Though Villa want him to see out the remaining year of his contract, Star sport understands he wants out now.

Barry believes he has been loyal to the club by staying for an extra season when he could have made an £18m switch to Liverpool last year. But after Martin O’Neill’s side failed to secure a top-four finish last year, the England star knows he is running out of time to test himself at the highest level.

Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez is still an admirer, but is not keen on splashing out most of his transfer budget taking him to Anfield. That has left Manchester City and Tottenham hopeful of securing a deal – but it is Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger who is considering a £12m bid for the 28-year-old.

Wenger is searching for a dominant midfield player to add to a squad which has plenty of talent but lacks genuine bite, and he has watched Barry several times in the past few months.

- Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has warned any of his want-away players - don't compare yourself to Thierry Henry.

Wenger told arsenal.com: "It is not the same [if another player said he did not want to wait for trophies].

"Thierry played a long time for us, nobody else did that and he was close to the end of his career. All these players [in the current squad] are at the start of their careers so it’s completely different.

"I think the exact opposite now – I don’t see why we should educate the players, get some stick and when they’re ready we sell them. That would be masochistic."

- Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger believes they could have won the Premiership last year with Barcelona star Thierry Henry.

"Maybe he could have made a difference, maybe last year," said Wenger. "We had 83 points and with him we could have gained two or three more that could have won us the championship.

"But at that time I felt that a guy who has played eight or nine years for you, and has shown that kind of desire, it's difficult to stand in his way.

"If he had done two or three years I would have said 'My friend, you stay here' but when he has given so much [it is different]. He had this opportunity at Barcelona, he had a first very difficult year but I am very happy he made it this year.

"He has convinced everybody because he is a top-class player and you want them to be successful."

Wenger stressed it was only Henry who would receive special treatment to be allowed to leave, while others may not be granted a move.

"It is not the same [if another player said he did not want to wait for trophies]," said Wenger.

"Thierry played a long time for us, nobody else did that and he was close to the end of his career. All these players [in the current squad] are at the start of their careers so it's completely different.

"I think the exact opposite now - I don't see why we should educate the players, get some stick and when they're ready we sell them. That would be masochistic."

- Kroenke shows prices

Stan Kroenke has been forced by the Stock Exchange to announce the price he paid for each of the 9,901 Arsenal shares that took his shareholding from 12.2 per cent to 28.3 per cent since March. Kroenke paid Clive Carr £10,500 per share for a 3.4 per cent stake, but he paid Richard Carr, his brother, £8,500 per share for a 4.3 per cent stake. The sizeable disparity in other share prices is not known.

- Arsene Wenger and Stuart Pearce are to hold talks over how to manage Theo Walcott’s workload at the European Under-21 Championships.

Arsenal starlet Walcott is on senior duty for the World Cup qualifiers against Kazakhstan and Andorra before the U21s tournament in Sweden next month.

Gunners boss Wenger is furious his 20-year-old winger is facing such a busy programme.

Now he wants to speak with U21s chief Pearce in a bid to monitor Walcott’s fitness.

- The agent of Feyenoord starlet Luc Castaignos has confirmed the interest of big spending Premiership clubs.

Arsenal and Liverpool are keen on the striker after spotting him at last month's U17 European Championships.

Castaignos's agent, Arie Treffers, revealed: "Their interest is known to us and the clubs are prepared to go far, but we will send all communication neatly to Feyenoord."

An offer of around £750,000 will force Feyenoord to seriously consider cashing in on the teenager.

- Robin van Persie has backed Arsenal's move for Ajax defender Thomas Vermaelen.

The 23-year-old defender is thought to be discussing personal terms with the Gunners after a fee of 12million euros was agreed between the clubs.

"It's a good thing," Van Persie told De Telegraaf. "There's nothing wrong with the qualities of Vermaelen. He can play as left-back and central defender and we need this type of player.

"The guys that we now have on those positions are already somewhat older."

Van Persie admits he does not know a lot about Vermaelen but added: "But our head scout does and he doesn't do such a thing out of the blue.

"He needs to see a player 30 to 40 times before a decision is made."

- Arsenal skipper Cesc Fabregas suffered a head injury in Spain's 6-0 friendly win over Azerbaijan in Baku.

The Arsenal man was brought down in the penalty area shortly before half-time and appeared to hit his head on the ground.

Midfielder Fabregas looked in some pain as he was treated by Spain's medical staff, who had to work hard to stop the bleeding.

The Gunners favourite reportedly required stitches in the wound and was replaced at the interval by Sergio Busquets.

- Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is chasing Barcelona's unhappy midfielder Yaya Toure.

The Ivory Coast star's agent Dimitri Seluk revealed the Spanish champions had refused to break their wage structure to meet Toure's demand for a 15 per cent pay rise.

And The Sun says Arsenal are lining up a £15m bid for the defensive midfielder - who can also play at the back - but they face stiff competition from both Inter and AC Milan.

- AC Milan and Juventus are to step up a £4million chase for Arsenal defender William Gallas.

Arsene Wenger is ready to offload William Gallas after the arrival of £11m Thomas Vermaelen.

The Arsenal boss will tie up Ajax's 23-year-old Belgian defender on a fouryear deal this week, as first revealed in Mirror Sport last month.

- Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger was desperate for England star Theo Walcott to miss the U21 European Championships.

The Daily Mail says Wenger made three attempts to stop Walcott joining England for the European Under 21 Championships before accepting defeat.

Wenger discussed the issue twice with Walcott only for the proud 20-year-old to insist on both occasions that he wanted to play for his country in Sweden.

The Arsenal manager then urged U21 boss Stuart Pearce to omit the winger from his squad to protect him from burn-out next season.

Wenger believes the England camp are foolish to risk Walcott's long-term form and fitness ahead of next year's World Cup finals but Pearce refused to yield to pressure. He knows his argument is backed by FIFA rules but, more importantly, he had the player on his side.

- Andrei Arshavin’s agent Dennis Lachter has refuted accusations of greed by telling setanta.com that the Russia star has not demanded a pay rise at Arsenal.

In an interview in his native Russia recently, Arshavin bemoaned planned tax increases in England which will see those who earn over £150,000 per year paying 50p in the pound from April 2010 onwards.

This was followed by reports the 28-year-old will request more money from the Gunners as a result.

"No he isn’t looking for a pay rise at the moment, he is happy," Lachter told setanta.com.

"I cannot comment on that, it is made up by somebody I think. As far as I know the tax rate has not come in yet.

- Arsenal goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski is a target for PSG

France Football says PSG have already asked Arsenal about the Poland international's availability for next season.

PSG enjoy a close relationship with the Gunners through manager Arsene Wenger.

Arsenal Reserve Goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski Pens Extended Deal
Manuel Almunia's understudy has signed a new long-term contract.

Arsenal's nascent glovesman, Polish international Lukasz Fabianski, has signalled his intent to make his mark at the north London club by inking a new long-term contract.

Fabianski emerged as the Gunners' 'cup keeper' during the past campaign. Manuel Almunia was preferred for Premier League and European duty, though manager Arsene Wenger began to blood the 24-year-old into competitive action in both the League Cup and the FA Cup.

Speaking to the club's official website, Wenger lavished praise onto the Pole, regarding him to be "intelligent" and a "top competitor".

The manager said, "I rate Lukasz highly and I am very pleased that he has committed his future to the club. I believe he is a top competitor, he’s intelligent and reads the game very well and has all the ingredients to be successful in his position."

The player was equally chuffed to have been rewarded with a new contract. He beamed, "I’m very happy to sign my new contract with Arsenal. It’s a big motivation for me to keep working hard and shows that the club believes in me.

"I’ll be doing everything I can to repay that belief by helping Arsenal to win trophies in the coming years."

Cesc Fabregas Urges Arsenal To Sign Combative Midfielder
The Spain international wants a tough-tackling partner in the Gunners' midfield to replace the void left by the departures of Patrick Vieira, Mathieu Flamini and Gilberto Silva...

Cesc Fabregas is requesting that Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger invests in a defensive midfielder during the close-season.

The Gunners have endured four seasons without a trophy and the flamboyant Spain international believes that the way to end that spell is by filling a void left by departures in recent years.

"We are accustomed to playing alongside the likes of Patrick Vieira, [Mathieu] Flamini and Gilberto Silva," Fabregas is quoted as saying by The Sun.

"Last season we were weak in this position which is so important, especially for teams like us.

"When we attack, it is vital to know someone is behind you to win the ball back."

The 22-year-old has seen speculation linking him with a return to Barcelona this summer, whose youth team he was part of before joining the Gunners as a 16-year-old in 2003.

Fabregas has admitted that he would be delighted to receive a call from Blaugrana head coach Pep Guardiola. Though he insists he is happy to stay at Arsenal, he has hinted that silverware is the key to his stay in north London.

"If you do not win titles then you cannot be happy," Fabregas remarked.

"Losing the semi-finals of the Champions League and the FA Cup meant we fell short and lacked that little bit extra.

"I'm happy at Arsenal but four years without success for a player who wants titles is a lot."

Arsenal Readying Bid For Fiorentina's Felipe Melo – Report
The Gunners are prepared to pay €17.7 million for the Brazil international midfielder...

Premier League giants Arsenal are putting together a new package in the hope of luring Fiorentina's Felipe Melo during the close-season, according to a report in the British tabloid The Daily Mail.

Apparently, Gunners manager Arsene Wenger has been keeping tabs on the 25-year-old for the past three years.

Having represented Brazilian clubs Flamengo, Cruzeiro and Gremio, the combative midfielder moved to Spain, first with Real Mallorca, then Racing Santander and Almeria.

His impressive displays seemed to have caught they eye of the French tactician, but it was the Viola who moved to snap him up for €8 million (£6.7m) last summer.

Since then, the 6ft star has won five caps for Brazil, scoring once, and has been linked with the likes of Milan, Inter and Real Madrid.

However, Arsenal are said to be willing to pay around €17.7m (£15m) to take Melo to the Emirates Stadium.
