Understand your pain, NZ is not a cheap country to visit.
I still feel the stretch sometimes even earning AUD.

What stormchaser said, better to self-drive in this beautiful country.

Yes, self-drive in NZ is the way to go.

Sooo many awesome places with nice scenery to stop by.

U can't do that by taking bus or taking tours.

Thanks for the suggestion.

Christchurch to Greymouth on train.

I've planned to drive from Greymouth to Franz Josef Glacier then from there to Wanaka then to Queenstown.

How's the scenery?

Is there any winding roads like Cameron highlands?

West Coast scenery is stunning, even more so when you're about to reach Wanaka.
Winding roads yes, especially near the coastal area but nothing you can't handle smile.gif

Fox Glacier is retreating at a rate of 5cm per day.
Pretty soon there will be nothing left to see!

i guess glacier is the main source of fresh water for downstream population, wonder what would happen if it is totally depleted.

Hi,

Is driving a campervan hard or dangerous? I like the fact that i can cook, wash and toilet all within a car. i would not prefer to keep paying for toilets, washing, sleeping area like what a campercar would smile.gif

It's not hard neither dangerous as long as you drive carefully within the speed limits.
It does cost quite a bit of money though so make a comparison before you commit to one.
And you will need to plan where to spend the night as campsites are limited at certain areas.

Expensive.
Which airlines you take?
Should be 5k max return tickets for 2 persons but depends on season & which date you choose.

I would say it quite expensive.

Currently looking for AKL air ticket too and average for the air ticket should be around 6k (QF, SQ)

Last two years i bought AirAsia ticket for RM3k for two people

If direct flight, I have no comment on that as direct flight tends to have higher price.
