Yes the good thing with a self-drive itinerary is that you're able to stop anywhere you want. Just make sure to give enough signal time so that the car behind you knows. The drivers here can be quite fast on the roads.

Why ticket price to Auckland in February is expensive like RM 6k per person? Malaysia airlines and Singapore airlines both are similar price.

First week of February 2019 is Chinese New Year, add Feb 1st FT day and you basically have almost 10 days break after only taking 3 days annual leave.

Pretty much all the flights to Australia, NZ etc are booked solid and at their peak prices.

Day 05 - Fox Glacier (heli-hike)

This was definitely the highlight of our trip, very expensive but worth it considering all other flights were cancelled and only ours went ahead biggrin.gif

Both South & North Islands have various LOTR locations scattered around so make sure you know which ones you wanna look at smile.gif
Or if you have loads of time and money, just go visit them all biggrin.gif

It's amazing how much Franz Josef has retreated since I was there in April 2011.
It used to be only around 10-20m away from the ranger sign that says don't go further...

Fox Glacier is retreating at a rate of 5cm per day.
Pretty soon there will be nothing left to see!

Sure, nothing fancy to be honest.
It's a Panasonic GX85 paired with a 12-60mm lens most of the time. During low light conditions such as night time, I'll change to a 20mm prime lens.
