Do you guys know, if it is possible to upgrade my current iValue1 plan to IData plan (3GB)?


My company recently started providing subsidies for 3G broadband(up to rm 70) and it kinda seems like a good deal to me since i don't really call/sms much.. I'm just double checking actually, I've asked the hotline and they said I can't because I am on contract but I thought I read before someone switch to the unlimited plan, or are they just "adding on" to it?

Are you sure though? I've downloaded some stuff from Cydia, and the bandwidth used to download is shown on the counters (when on 3G) unless you mean the apps itself don't show?

I think it depends what apps you use from Cydia, just have to becareful when you use apps that uses the network. Although, for example, xGPS's usage is pretty clear and it shows on the counter.

So, its possible to call Maxis hotline to check on the data usage? Their online thing at their website is useless..

Yeah their website sucks monkey .. banana.. I mean if you access their Value Added services tab, it doesn't even really correspond with your account.. Whichever mickey mouse company that designed that web service deserves to go bankrupt..

Hmm does this mean that, even though you aren't doing anything and have MMS, and notifications turned off somehow the EDGE thing will still use some bandwidth? or the phrase "Phone Credit Flying out the window" refers to activities that actually have to use the service ?

Hmm ok thanks for the information, so basically couple of things to take note off is the data usage column.. and also to check in processes (if you have sbsettings) to see what else is running on your IPhone right?

hearing your stories, that is why I am extremely extremely vigilant... I always double check to make sure fakeApn is used. after turning on fake apn, I also do a quick check with appstore etc to make sure that my Internet connection (via 3g is dead) before I go on Wifi etc.


That is about the only thing we can do. Since Maxis does not allow us to check our usage online, we can't really dispute anything (no proof). Turn off everything guys... push notifications.. MMS ...


Also, another thing I do is, when I download anything from App Store or Cydia using 3G i always check to see if that downoad is recorded on the iphone bandwidth meter.. if it doesn't i take note of it . This is because some of the posters here say downloading stuff from cydia does not correctly reflect the actual usage etc. So really, just be more cautious

The problems is, they aren't charging us for the MMS.. they are just charging for the data bandwidth it takes to receive MMS.. As I do not get any MMS regularly and the ones I get are from MAXIS ads!!(GRMBLE!!).. I turn it off...

ohh ok cool.. haha because it showed on my bandwidth counter, but I guess they do have ways of tracking if it is from them.

Do you have PUSH on? for Mail or any apps? MMS on? even as Tinkerbel said they won't charge you,but it will still reflect on your usage counter.

Hmm my first bill came, its pro-rated since i only got my IPhone on the 2nd of October.. my data usage is pretty consistent with my IPhone counter..

It probably means that the 3G in your area isn't good and it can't get a signal.. so it tries to use Edge which you have disabled so it cna't access any net service..

In my experience.. if the area's 3G net service etc is bad.. you can see the 3g icon, but you still won't get any connection to the internet.. but i'm not sure with your case though

Just to let you know, if you have turned on fakeApn.. you will still see the E or 3G icon at the top of your phone.. just that you won't be able to send/receive any data via E/3G .. so please take note that the presence of the icon doesn't mean that fakeAPN isn't working.

Best way to test, is to open a small website or open App store and see if it loads.. if it doesn't, then you are safe.

It's a conspiracy theory on my part, but perhaps the lack of a "tracking" system is to let us go overzealous on our data usage and get charged a hefty sum? (As I said, it could be just me)

It really hurts you up where-the-sun-don't-shine too if you overuse your allocation. Seriously, since they are able to provide the data used in the bill, I really don't see any ethical reason they can't provide us our data used via, Hotline, online acc management or via the UMB(user menu browser)

By far, the best method is still to put in fake APN information, that will ensure your 3g data is not used..

Hmm that is quite weird.

After turning on FakeAPn, can you double check in your

Settings --> General --> Network --> Cellular Data Network ?(If you do not have this menu, it means you need to install the respective IPCC file for your IPhone, else fakeAPN would not work for you)


and see what are the settings for


Cellular Data

APN :

MMS

APN:

if FakeAPn is working correctly you will see fake.unet (for maxis) in both those fields..
