Do you guys know, if it is possible to upgrade my current iValue1 plan to IData plan (3GB)?
My company recently started providing subsidies for 3G broadband(up to rm 70) and it kinda seems like a good deal to me since i don't really call/sms much.. I'm just double checking actually, I've asked the hotline and they said I can't because I am on contract but I thought I read before someone switch to the unlimited plan, or are they just "adding on" to it?
Regards

QUOTE(developer @ Oct 6 2009, 03:33 PM) i am on iphone 2g and cydia usage is not tracked on usage tab. on os 3.0 Are you sure though? I've downloaded some stuff from Cydia, and the bandwidth used to download is shown on the counters (when on 3G) unless you mean the apps itself don't show?

QUOTE(tinkerbel @ Oct 6 2009, 08:41 PM) @tnsai, You could always check with Maxis if they'll allow you to upgrade but from iValue 1 to iData they might not entertain U. If it's iValue 1 to iValue 3 maybe got chance Anyhow, no harm checking with Maxis. Also, don't forget to ask for waiver of whatever fees needed to be paid. @developer, I've been told by those using jailbroken phones that their usage counter ain't too accurate. It apparently is quite accurate on the non jailbroken phones. Thanks for the info. I think it depends what apps you use from Cydia, just have to becareful when you use apps that uses the network. Although, for example, xGPS's usage is pretty clear and it shows on the counter.

QUOTE(tinkerbel @ Oct 6 2009, 10:23 PM) @12321, That's what I'd been told. I've also been checking on mine and it seems quite accurate. Plus, it's sista + and not bro! So, its possible to call Maxis hotline to check on the data usage? Their online thing at their website is useless..

QUOTE(kelvingoh9 @ Oct 7 2009, 10:27 AM) hi guys. Doesn't Maxis provide us with any features to check online how much data we have used since last billing date? I checked their website and couldn't find any info on this. I think Maxis should provide us with this service. Yeah their website sucks monkey .. banana.. I mean if you access their Value Added services tab, it doesn't even really correspond with your account.. Whichever mickey mouse company that designed that web service deserves to go bankrupt..

QUOTE(teikwing @ Oct 8 2009, 02:32 PM) read 3. Phone Credit Flying Out The Window? Turn 'OFF' EDGE on how to disable EDGE. Hmm does this mean that, even though you aren't doing anything and have MMS, and notifications turned off somehow the EDGE thing will still use some bandwidth? or the phrase "Phone Credit Flying out the window" refers to activities that actually have to use the service ?

QUOTE(teikwing @ Oct 8 2009, 04:47 PM) basically, yes. and it'll depends on the apps that you have in your phone. check your data usage column in Settings. the best way to prevent all these unwanted data usage is to disable EDGE/3G according to the guide in my last post. however, most apps ill only utilise few KBs most of the time. for Maxis, 10kb = RM1. (used ESPN ScoreCenter to check the latest football scores and the app only uses around 10kb for score updates) Hmm ok thanks for the information, so basically couple of things to take note off is the data usage column.. and also to check in processes (if you have sbsettings) to see what else is running on your IPhone right?

QUOTE(FalleN @ Oct 14 2009, 05:38 AM) ^^ same case here. my phone show 492mb. upload + download. and suddenly one day i cant call and sms. went to check at maxis and they say i reached my credit limit which is RM 200. i subscribed ivalue 1. damn sien. hearing your stories, that is why I am extremely extremely vigilant... I always double check to make sure fakeApn is used. after turning on fake apn, I also do a quick check with appstore etc to make sure that my Internet connection (via 3g is dead) before I go on Wifi etc. That is about the only thing we can do. Since Maxis does not allow us to check our usage online, we can't really dispute anything (no proof). Turn off everything guys... push notifications.. MMS ... Also, another thing I do is, when I download anything from App Store or Cydia using 3G i always check to see if that downoad is recorded on the iphone bandwidth meter.. if it doesn't i take note of it . This is because some of the posters here say downloading stuff from cydia does not correctly reflect the actual usage etc. So really, just be more cautious This post has been edited by tnsai: Oct 14 2009, 07:48 AM

QUOTE(blstz @ Oct 15 2009, 06:42 AM) I think it's unfair we charge for receiving MMS since the order party has already paid for it. How about if we send MMS, we get charge The problems is, they aren't charging us for the MMS.. they are just charging for the data bandwidth it takes to receive MMS.. As I do not get any MMS regularly and the ones I get are from MAXIS ads!!(GRMBLE!!).. I turn it off...

QUOTE(tinkerbel @ Oct 15 2009, 12:54 PM) @tnsai, Maxis ads MMS are RM0.00 so it shouldn't take up any of your bandwidth or usage ohh ok cool.. haha because it showed on my bandwidth counter, but I guess they do have ways of tracking if it is from them.

It probably means that the 3G in your area isn't good and it can't get a signal.. so it tries to use Edge which you have disabled so it cna't access any net service..

QUOTE(hellwaker @ Oct 17 2009, 10:51 PM) I'm on Maxis set. May be 3G service is down. Any sifu can help to explain this. Added on October 17, 2009, 10:57 pmI can confirm 3G icon on the top right corner is up. In my experience.. if the area's 3G net service etc is bad.. you can see the 3g icon, but you still won't get any connection to the internet.. but i'm not sure with your case though

QUOTE(vui_msia @ Oct 19 2009, 11:00 AM) Little circle is Egde. Both Edge and 3G will costs you a bomb if you have no contract or plan on Data. Yup, I am on IValue plan but I asked for itemized billing ... and here is the cost of 32mb of data used Bill SnippetTo mods : I know I've posted this in another thread before, but some of the folks here might not have seen it, so I hope to just give them an idea on how expensive the data charges are and to be careful. .. about RM 1 per 200KB

QUOTE(princess_autumn87 @ Oct 19 2009, 11:27 AM) then i think i fell into the trap already.i already install fakeAPN but the Edge still running abit.i will go install Bossprefs and turn off the edge. i think 1MB data is rm10.my 23mb cost me about rm230 this month.what a wasted now i saw E edge icon on my dashboard.if using it make phone call is normal rate rite?abit worry now Just to let you know, if you have turned on fakeApn.. you will still see the E or 3G icon at the top of your phone.. just that you won't be able to send/receive any data via E/3G .. so please take note that the presence of the icon doesn't mean that fakeAPN isn't working. Best way to test, is to open a small website or open App store and see if it loads.. if it doesn't, then you are safe.

It's a conspiracy theory on my part, but perhaps the lack of a "tracking" system is to let us go overzealous on our data usage and get charged a hefty sum? (As I said, it could be just me)

QUOTE(Ken @ Oct 19 2009, 05:22 PM) yes, the pay per use is so espensive ... 1MB is RM10 ... It really hurts you up where-the-sun-don't-shine too if you overuse your allocation. Seriously, since they are able to provide the data used in the bill, I really don't see any ethical reason they can't provide us our data used via, Hotline, online acc management or via the UMB(user menu browser)

By far, the best method is still to put in fake APN information, that will ensure your 3g data is not used..

QUOTE(ctzalifah @ Oct 21 2009, 08:48 AM) i've used this. however i still can see my data counter increasing. mind u im using fw 3.1.2 with i3gs Hmm that is quite weird. After turning on FakeAPn, can you double check in your Settings --> General --> Network --> Cellular Data Network ?(If you do not have this menu, it means you need to install the respective IPCC file for your IPhone, else fakeAPN would not work for you) and see what are the settings for Cellular Data APN : MMS APN: if FakeAPn is working correctly you will see fake.unet (for maxis) in both those fields..
