Currently my kitchen is having a concrete top, does that mean I have to use solid surface and I can't use cheaper solution such as laminated top?

Need a little clarification here. The KC we went before, told me high gloss and acrylic are different stuff. I was shown 2 units of kitchen cabinet which showed the difference between these two; acrylic has smoother 'glow/reflection' while hi gloss's 'glow' is a little blur/shadowy.

But the second KC I went yesterday, showed me an acrylic kitchen cabinet display but it looked to me like hi gloss. On asking, he said acrylic and hi gloss are the same.

Can anyone clarify on this?

seems like nobody answer your questions, maybe i can help ....

High-gloss: is using MDF board as the base material and after spray painted it will give u a glossy finishing. but MDF board is very sensitive to water which is also its main disadvantage beside this it will be very hard to maintain in the longer run coz will scratch very easily and very troublesome to touch up once scratch.

Arcylic: is another type of material which made from plastics materials but higher grade type (dunno the scientificaly name) which can use many types of base materials to produce like aluminum frame, plywood, melamine board aka chipboard, and even mdf but this is rare due to the above issues icon_idea.gif

So conclusion Arcylic and High-gloss is not the same product !!!!

Anyone can guess Solid wood and solid board is the same??? anyone wanna try to answer this? whistling.gif

Hi Everyone,

I need your advise on this build in wardrobe. My wardrobe just done today, but I found a very weird part.
Do you think is it normal to have such a thick side ending as in the picture highlighted? It's about 3inches.

Erny,

You are a kitchen/wardrobe expert. What is your opinion ? Is this normal ?

1st, if u want cheaper.. then i suggest u just put tiles.. 2x2 tiles now days got so many choice.. some look like granite.

Your Concrete top with tiles?? OR not???

1) If Yes, then u can just do a drawer and door to cover it. usually - RM110-RM120 per feet run for this. (solid block board wood)
2) If not, u can add on a solid surface top on it.
3) If u already have tiles, and u really like solid surface. (No problem for this) but i think this is waste. unless the tiles of ur tabel top is old.. and u plan to change.

Solid surface is RM140/feet run.

Haha. Nice description.

Your question is hard to answer... See how the contractor define those..
For me.. its mostly same. both is really solid wood.
If u define solid wood - 1 piece of solid wood then solid board is not same.
solid board - few piece of long solid wood stick together become one piece of board.

Laminated top.. cannot tahan lama!!! Not encourage to do that. since u already have concrete top.
usually kitchen don use laminated top. because it cannot tahan water and heat.
unless u don have a basin and cooker there.

NO,this is not normal. but

1st-need to measure is it the wardrobe they make same wide wif the quotation??

2nd- usually the contractor will go ur house and measure the exact size of your area. normally this won't happen.

Had u ask ur contractor?? he got any explain or not??? maybe something blocked??

Hi Evon,

Thanks for your reply. The size I paid is the size which measured to the wall, which mean the cabinet should be fully extend to the wall.
I asked the worker why they put such a large board there, then he just told me that’s normal.
They did the same thing to my wardrobes in 2 rooms. But I don’t think this is normal, as it took up my space and I look at other ppl wardrobe, they don’t have the board like that.

Perhaps this is because they use modular units instead of fully customize your wardrobe...

Hard to say. there may be possible of, your wall are not straight enough, say the top part and bottom part of wall are diff by say 20mm, if use normal way to do, u will see there is a gap at the top, but bottom is fit. if seal by silicone also still see ugly, then they use melamine board to cover to gab, but melamine board can not cut at too small size coz is too easy to broken. so they at lease make a 50mm gab to fit the board and plus ur uneven wall, so may becoz of that 3inc.

I not sure, not saw your site b4. or may be becoz of modular problem also.

Shanny,
Maybe good to take the whole cabinet picture instead of middle part? Maybe top have cornice or bottom have skirting which cause the gap?
