70-300VR Nikkor is a very decent lens. The VR does help but it is not a miracle solution. It is just to help you take sharp shots without needing to use such a high shutter speed (especially when available light is not sufficient). It doesn't totally replace the tripod as situations needing much lower shutter speeds will still require a tripod.

the f2.8 is not 70-300 afaik. it's AF-S 70-200 f2.8. comes in two colours grey and black. the grey costs a few hundred ringgits more...

the 70-300 VRii has a newer VR tech like on 18-200VRii. the 70-300VRii has two switches for VR rather than one one the 55-200VR. It has if im not mistaken active VR which you could turn on in conditions where there are a lot more shake. to be honest wedding shots dont require you to have a zoom lens if you're not taking candid pics. imo weddings pics dont need a lot of candid shots..at least business wise la.

the 55-200VR will serve you well enough for candid wedding shots..300mm is a bit extreme for weddings dont u think?. if you're into those F1 racing pics and stuff of that kind, 70-300Vrii will make more sense la..

i m totally new in photo line, i just like to snap picture.
currently using canon ixus 850IS. it serve me well, but i wan better shot.
so my frd recommend me to get D60. good enough for entry level.
so i doing some homework now and learn more about DSLR here.

If i prefer portrait, which should i choose?
most like to snap my gf picture and view.

Portrait depends more on the lens not really on the body. Whatever body whether it be Nikon, Canon, Sony, Olympus can also be able to take good portraits. Generally portraits are taken with longer lenses (55-200, 70-300,70-200) .. or prime lenses like 50mm f1.8 or like the Tamron 90mm f2.8. So make sure you know your budget for the body and any additional lenses.

you can get the D60 with kit lens.... then buy the 35mm AFS lens...if budget permits la... should be good to take your gf pics... smile.gif i'm using the 35mm lens to take my wife pics most of the time now... kekekek.....

budget? less than 2k then get d60... if 2.8k..get d5000....if 4k..get d90...if 5k...get d300... For portrait..get 35mm f1.8 or 50mm f1.8/1.4....

project-o,alpha_company thankd for ur adv.
will take it into consideration when getting the lense later.
for now, more study o it and survey mania starts!

kent goh.
my advice,
d60 with 35mm f1.8.
u may need to spend up to 2.7 k but its worth it
or u get 2nd hand body and get the 35mm

i'm planning on buying d60 by the end of next month..
my budget right now is around rm2k, so the only dslr that i can buy is d60.
should i go for d60?because some of my friend said that i should buy d80 or so because d60 dun have internal focus motor....
i personally like d60 because it is affordable and it is suitable for new user like me..
can u guys share your opinion, help me make up my mind cry.gif

d60 is fine... If u r planning to use old lens, then the internal motor is an issue. If you are nt buying old lens anytime soon..d60 + kit lens is quite good to start with. You can check out Canon 1000d too..

i think i'm not going to buy any additional lens because my budget is only 2k,just enough to buy the kit....so there's no need to worry about the internal motor? smile.gif

Best if you play around with your kit lense first then only invest in lenses that compliment your preferred style of photography.
