i tried 845PE chipset with 2.4C and no problem so far.
Is it possible that 3.0E used on that chipset?

2nd question,

i fried the southbridge, small spark came out.

@Ray
Hm.. Honestly i never P4 with Vmware before, sorry for cant give u the exact information. But ya cause sounds like the OS didnt recognized the processor properly, and cause the CPU-Z spec reading goes crazy. For mine now, max i can select 2 core, and min 1 core for running the vm-client.

@SurpriseZZZZZ
If ur mobo still under warranty then u can try to RMA it. But if the warranty is over, then there is no hope.

@fylon,i dun think the OS can't recognise my proc correctly.I'm doubt with the VMware. Usually people will use Vista as main and Win XP as virtual one,not sure does this one affects.

@Ray
Yea. Thats what i did for now, but its just strange as the W7 cant detect the processor correctly. Let me try W7 tonight with my own rigs and update here. laugh.gif

@fylon,i guess i've made a wrong decision to make W7 in virtual. I'm glad that my Audigy 2 ZS driver is detectable in VMware.

i want to try on my p4, but it's my home pc..scared my parents bising when they see new interface and new stuff here and there laugh.gif

i think w7 would be a good choice, it's kinda runs like xp with vista interface. good for 1942 stuff like ray said biggrin.gif
so you get the best of both worlds

@kabu & dlwl, i run Win7 on my 1942 rig with VMware,but seems like the performance is not optimize yet. You can see my attactments from previous page. I plan to migrate to Vista by end of next month (after i get the installer) and will try to run VM in Vista again. But in my mind i think would be better to run the Win7 with another partition boots.VMware has some limitation in graphic and other performance. I believe our old school is still able to handle Win7 well as i got 4.2 score for my CPU rating. laugh.gif

dual boot or running on a separate partition is definately better than running it on virtual machine, for me that is laugh.gif
i find it rather troublesome to get drivers running on VM doh.gif

Yup of course~~a totally new set
Well, we have to follow where technology brings us, as everyday there will be a new thing emerges in the market

Its different from cars, old cars still can do wonders when do up and yet be able to compete with newer cars. As for P4, nothing much you can do already to beef it up, so have to follow market already smile.gif

Yeah glad to be back after a long hiatus in this thread

hmmm....car modding, yeah spent close to 20K already on it and STILL not complete (some money was trial and error)....still have the ECU, more crazy camshaft, adjustable cam pulley and retweaking of the exhaust to do.....

So in computer terms, I am basically 'overclocking' my engine (rig), bigger and better fans (air filter,intake & exhaust) for better air flow, programmable ECU (ES processor equalavent), better RAMs for high scalability (aggressive camshaft) and memory booster (adjustable cam pulley to fully use the cams abilities)

omg.... i sinply goreng all burn up. nice thumbup.gif

@shinjite
wao... very technical terms in matching pc and car. nice 1 notworthy.gif

@ray
i think maybe VMware is limiting the pure performance of the w7. hmm.... driver dunno having issue especially on audigy. hmm.gif

@dlwl
agree with you. vmware cant really test the actual performance of a real os. cause its still running on top of another os.

i experienced the huge different when running vmware on the same machine compare with fresh install, ubuntu is the os tried that time.

@kabu,I try my Audigy in VMware,i can select the driver for my Audidy card. I will assume no problem too if in Win7. I might try with fresh installation later,maybe with Ubuntu too.
