check your cpu model, 631 is socket 775. if u mean what is the mobo suitable for your 631, any socket 775 mobo would do. price wise, mobo with G31 chipsets are the cheapest, around RM185-200 range.

P4 631? That's LGA775 ,not S478. P4 3.0 also need to make sure is S478 also. sweat.gif

again, LGA771 is not mainstream, also known as socket J. LGA771 is for server cpu.

should be, probably need sufficient amount of ram and some tweaking on the software side for it to run smoothly. if not mistaken ianho managed to install vista on his old p4 rig. you can try and ask him smile.gif

Should be still be able to run smooth with minimal applications install in Vista. What's the amount of RAM you have?

i installed vista home basic on my P4m 2.0Ghz with 512mb ram. So yeah, it works but as ray has pointed out, perhaps you'll not be impressed with the application loaded without some additional RAM or tweaks wink.gif

Last thing on this OT discussion, FYI i m using X3220. sweat.gif when u say conversion for home use, actually anyone also can purchase a server system for home use, no conversion needed, lol! all goes down to how deep is your pocket. and buying a xeon cpu with LGA775 does not guarantee you to be able to use it in any mobo due to the BIOS microcode differences.

if u still think that X3220 is exactly the same as Q6600, then u r mistaken. there are similarities, but not a total 100% rebadge of commercial cpus. this link further proves my point: http://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopic=774462&hl=

hope that clears the xeon/core issues.

OK back to original s478 l33t discussions thumbup.gif eh, anyone still using P4 notebooks? I m lonely lah.. alone in the P4M league..haha...

eh bro, i got one crazy idea. Mod cooling for s478. get a 775 heatpipe cooler, and mod ourself of the backplate to fit 478. that would be cool drool.gif

Sure can. My OldMan Rig, P4 2.4ghz with only 512mb of ram is running on Vista. I added a 1gb USB thumbdrive n allocated all 1gb for Vista Ready Boost. Nice cheap way instead of buying expensive DDR ram which costs about rm120 for 1gb.

hi raymond,
how about Abit IS7?? can b o.c??

Damn nice mobo with all kinds of options for OC. I used IS7 last time n took my 2.4ghz all the way to 3.2ghz daily use speed. Was hot like hell n needed a gigantic Thermaltake Tower HSF though.
